Celebrity Golf Classic Continued From 7

North Babylon’s Boy Scout Troop 399 enjoyed an adventurous camping weekend on June 2nd-4th at Letchworth State Park located in Castille, NY. Letchworth State Park, renowned as the “Grand Canyon of the East,” is one of the most scenically magnificent areas in the eastern U.S. The Genesee River roars through the

gorge over three major waterfalls between cliffs as high as 600 feet in some places - surrounded by lush forests. One of the main reasons that most boys join scouting is adventure. The scouts got to camp the great outdoors, explored the hiking trails and incredible waterfalls and took in nature.

After hiking 5 miles of trails the boys enjoyed their dinner and and evening campfire. Outdoor camping affords a great opportunity to build confidence, learn and utilize new skills, work as a team and develop social skills. A fun trip was had by all.

attending the dinner, supporters help provide the Foundation with the much needed resources to fulfill its mission of granting children their special wishes. It looks like the colder damp weather has finally broken! Just in time too, as work is in full swing in preparation for the opening of the Babylon Village Pool scheduled for June 28th. Can’t wait for the splash! The Spring Fling Festival hosted by the Chamber of Commerce was a big hit this year. This was the first time that Deer Park Avenue was closed to vehicle traffic for the event, and everyone on hand had a great day. Mother Nature decided to cooperate with what

turned out to be a beautiful day, and folks came out in droves to take in the art, music, delicious foods, kid’s activities and festival specials at our village merchants. The street Chalk Art Contest was the talk of the town! If you missed it this time around, make sure to make note on the ﬁrst Saturday in June in your 2018 calendar. Our own Babylon American Legion Post will hold its Installation of Officers Dinner Dance on Saturday, June 24th. Interested

One Tap shoes laced and ready to go. Costume hung on the doorknob with care. Steps on constant replay in my head {flap, flap, flap, shuffle hop…} all in preparation for the big night, my return to the dance recital stage after a five-year hiatus. Cue the butterflies. I have had a love/ hate relationship with performing for the majority of my twenty years at the studio. On the one hand, there is nothing quite comparable to that moment when the lights come up, the music begins to play and the rush of the moment engulfs you to the point that you simply perform – no overthinking what step comes next, am I smiling too much,

not enough; are my arms graceful, my hands “jazzy”… Of course, there is also that other scenario, that one that plays out in your subconscious the night before – the one where all the carefully rehearsed choreography evaporates from your memory at the most inopportune moment; generally when you happen to be front and center, spotlight squarely on you, smile frozen as you desperately try to ad lib something, anything. I would say I’ve had my share of each extreme through the years. It began with my very first recital at the tender age of six when I flew onstage mid-song, arms flailing, as I tried to catch up with my classmates as

we performed “Somewhere Out There” in our lemon yellow tutus. It ended, some twenty-plus years later, in a “big girl” tutu of silvery sparkle, dancing to “Wizards of Winter,” only this time I made it out for the entire performance. As I write these words, the stage is set – pun intended – for my grand finale tomorrow evening. Two numbers to perform over two acts, including, appropriately enough, the grand finale to “One” from A Chorus Line. One more time in the spotlight, one last night to shine… at least that’s the plan, anyway. Coming Next Week: Curtain Call

Districtwide Achievements with a major in molecular biology. The members of Babylon Memorial Grade School’s Mock Trial Team were also recognized by the board of education for their successful participation in the Western Suffolk BOCES Mock Trial Tournament. Babylon Junior-Senior High School math teacher Frank Mancuso was presented with a token of appreciation for being recognized by Sen. Phil Boyle as a “Teacher

of Excellence” at his second annual Teacher of Excellence Awards Ceremony recently held at the Bay Shore Fire Department. Mr. Mancuso has been a part of the Babylon School District for eight years, and is highly regarded by students and staff alike. Additionally, eight staff members throughout the district were granted with tenure and celebrated by the community for their commitment to education. Sporting their starshaped glasses, the published authors invited special guests into the classroom to walk the red carpet. The authors unveiled their

newly written fictional series displayed in their boxed set. The boxed set contained a QR code that links directly to a video of the students reading one of their stories.

DECORATION OF GRAVES - On May 27th, North Babylon’s Boy Scout Troop 399 and Girl Scout Troop 3161 helped prepare a Memorial Day tribute to the men and women who have lost their lives serving their country. The scouts arrived at Pinelawn National Cemetery in the early morning to decorate the graves with hundreds of American flags. Decorating the graves is an annual tradition for the Scouts, and takes them about two hours to complete.
