KNOCKING DOWN HUNGER - Tooker Avenue Elementary School in the West Babylon School District held a cereal box domino challenge to “knock down hunger.” The school collected boxes of cereal to donate to the West Babylon School District food pantry. As a school, there were 370 boxes collected in total. On March 9, the boxes were set up in the hallway as dominos that were knocked down as the students watched as they fell. To adopt the annual budget of the School District for the fiscal year 2022-2023 and to authorize the requisite portion thereof to be raised by taxation on the taxable property of the District. 2. To elect two (2) members of the Board of Education of said School District. one member for the term commencing May 17, 2022 and expiring June 30, 2025, and one member for a 3-year term July 1, 2022 and expiring on June 30, 2025.
AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that pursuant to Chapter 258 of the Laws of 2008, Section 495 was added to the Real Property Tax Law, and requires the School District to attach to its proposed budget an exemption report. Said exemption report, which will also become part of the final budget, will show how much of the total assessed value on the final assessment roll used in the budgetary process is exempt from taxation, list every type of exemption granted, identified by statutory authority, and show: (a) the cumulative impact of each type of exemption expressed either as a dollar amount of assessed value or as a percentage of the total assessed value on the roll; (b) the cumulative amount expected to be received from recipients of each type of exemption as payments in lieu of taxes or other payments for municipal services; and (c) the cumulative impact of all exemptions granted. The opioid epidemic has highlighted that all ages, socio-economic backgrounds, and all communities can be profoundly vulnerable to addiction. YES Community Counseling Center has been providing both addiction treatment and prevention services for the past three decades with the understanding that the needs of each individual is uniquely different and therefore, treatment must also be individualized and utilize a variety of approaches.
YES Community Counseling Center’s addiction treatment services are comprehensive and approaches are based upon the developmental stage and readiness of each individual. Under the supervision of the agency’s Medical Director, specializes in evidence based services which are available for adolescents, young adults, adults and family members, including: •Adolescent Family Program (AFP) •Young Adult groups •Impaired driver evaluations and treatment •Moral Reconation Therapy for those who are legally involved (MRT) •Recovery groups •Trauma focused therapies •Parent and significant other support groups •Educational groups
It is also understood that most often, family members are deeply affected by addiction and require support and well as an understanding the complexities of the disease and how to support a loved one through their recovery. Early education about addiction is critical along with early interventions that build individual, family and community protective factors to reduce the likelihood of young people resorting to substances to cope with life’s challenges. In light of marijuana legalization, it is so important that parents learn the detrimental effects of all substances on the developing brain. In addition to prevention services within the local schools and community, YES CCC offers early intervention

Babylon JuniorSenior High School’s World Language Club participated in World Language Week March 7-11 with schoolwide activities that celebrated languages. This year’s theme was “Humanity Through Language.” The club created a schoolwide mural featuring the school community and different cultural perspectives. Each day, announcements were made by speakers in their native language
including Bangladesh, Urdu, French, Chinese and Spanish. Using the letters in the word “human,” each day was themed around a different activity. On March 7, the focus was habitat. Students scanned different homes using QR codes placed throughout the building. On March 8, students signed up in the teams to compete in an after-school jigsaw puzzle competition, focusing on unity. A schoolwide music showdown was the focus
of day 3. Students scanned QR codes to vote on their favorite songs in Spanish and French. On March 10, students went on an adventure scavenger hunt to track down different letters to solve a Wordle puzzle. The final day of activities focused on need. As part of a Penny Wars initiative, students collected change while staff participated in a Jeans Friday to raise more for UNICEF’s efforts in the Ukraine.

The Dangers Of Dented Cans
Dented cans have long been a source of confusion and concern for shoppers. They may be discounted and seem like a good deal, but some of those dented cans may not be safe to eat. A person should avoid sharp dents, dents in the seam and dents where the seam and the can meet. In addition, if the can is bulging or swollen, it should be avoided. Dents in a seam can let in air and bacteria. Deep dents may have left pinholes, again where bacteria can enter.

HIBERNIAN OF THE YEAR - On Saturday, March 12th, the Ancient Order of Hibernians Division Two in Babylon recognized Thomas A. Bennet, Jr. as Hibernian of the Year during their annual Shamrock Ball! Mr. Bennet currently serves as the Division Mission Chairman, meaning he is responsible for the many food drives and other charitable actions hosted by the organization. In his time as a Hibernian, Mr. Bennet has served several other positions, including President. Both Suffolk County Legislature Presiding Officer Kevin McCaffrey and Suffolk County Executive Steven Bellone are members of Division Two, and were on hand to present Mr. Bennet with proclamations recognizing his achievement. Suffolk County Hibernians President Bill Gorham was also presented a proclamation at the Ball, which marked the designation of March as Irish-American Heritage Month within Suffolk County!
