NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that the Special District Election and Budget Vote shall be conducted by voting on the propositions by paper ballot on Tuesday, the 5th day of April 2016, between the hours of 1:00 P.M. and 9:00 P.M., at the West Babylon Public Library, 211 Route 109, West Babylon, New York, which has been designated as the polling place for the Special District Meeting.

Throughout Deer Park‘s Saints Cyril and Methodius School, students, teachers and staff got into the spirit of Catholic Schools Week with a variety of activities and celebrations. With key themes of kindness and acts of mercy, SSCM staff planned a funfilled and thought-filled week for all. Starting the week with age-appropriate discussions on ways each of the students could practice their own acts of mercy and ending the

day with a prayer service, SSCM students went home with hope in their hearts and a mission of good will. In a moving display of how meaningful it can be to have grades Nursery through 8 in one building, students from the upper grades spent some valuable time in the lower grade classrooms. Seeing the 8th graders engaged and sharing with the Kindergarteners was a treat, as they read books, chatted and shared cookies

and milk, all donned in their PJs for Pajama Day. Likewise, 5th graders shared quality time reading and snacking with the Pre-K class. The little ones enjoy spending this special time with the upper grades whom they so look up to and the older students learn patients, gain perspective and have an opportunity to practice acts of kindness by reading to their young partners and reminiscing on a simpler time.

Award – the highest honor bestowed to residents by the Town. Suffolk County Legislator Kevin McCaffrey was also in attendance to present a proclamation honoring the three heroes, as well as recognition on behalf of Presiding Officer DuWayne Gregory. Eighth graders at Saints Cyril and Methodius in Deer Park enjoyed an excellent exercise in ﬂexing their creative muscles. Given a paper bag containing ten unrelated items, students had to quickly work in teams of six, to create and present skits using

all ten items. A great deal of hilarity ensued as the teams presented the most imaginative scenarios. In the words of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, “We cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can build the youth for our future.”

Creativity wanes with every passing year for school-aged children and keeping the sparks of creativity alive is essential to developing the thinking skills that the next generation will bring into the workplace of our future.

It’s here! It’s finally arrived! The moment you all (well I and my Human) have been waiting for! My very first birthday in my bowl, celebrated this past weekend with my Human family. Who would’ve thought this day would come… Of course, in Betta years, that probably makes me about 47. Not to mention the countless days… months… years… I spent languishing in that tiny Tupperware container they kept me in at the pet store. But, ever since February 16th, 2015, the day my Human adopted me, all has been well. There was a party, with dinner, and even a few presents! What does one buy a Betta, you ask? Well, there was the pre-Birthday/Christmas gift of a brand new tank – complete

with a filter and a light and everything – which my Human has yet to transfer me into… something about not wanting to “traumatize” me without consulting with the “pet experts” at the store first. I haven’t received a scheduled moving date as of yet. Speaking of, I’m still patiently waiting to be taken on that shopping spree I was promised back in August for my six-month birthday. All the sales that have come and gone… just think what fancy toys and plants I could have accumulated by now! I must have at least enough for a small castle saved away. And pretty gravel… and maybe a leafy hammock to sleep in… and a seashell to decorate… Tiny brain, big dreams. The one thing I didn’t get was a fishy friend to play with. I don’t need anything fancy like me; perhaps just a small

shrimp or a snail to keep me company, and maybe vacuum my bowl now and then. Those long hours spent waiting for my Human to return home each day are awfully boring. There are only so many laps a Betta can swim around his plant, only so much gravel to push from one corner to another. Ah, but enough complaining. I’ve decided to turn over a new fin for my new year and focus on being positive and loving toward my Human, my Grammy and any other visitors who might like to visit and gaze upon my beauty. (Hey, I didn’t say I was going to take up modesty.) ‘Til next time, thanks to all the readers for their birthday greetings. And to my Human family, thank you for the best first birthday a Betta could hope to have. Here’s to many more!

The students recited a poem for the school about keeping peace in their lives, then read several stories about how kindness spreads love and wrote essays on how each of them spreads kindness in their

own worlds by their good deeds and service to the school and surrounding community.
