BACCA Celebrates 50 Years the Annual Judged Art Show, and the SCALA/ BACCA Annual Student Art Show. “We are fortunate to have developed many new relationships with organizations and community groups, artists, municipalities, and small businesses. That, along with our members, is what makes what we do possible,” said BACCA Executive Director Liz Mirarchi. “It has been a joy and an honor to work with our partners on new programs, public arts projects, and the many ways we plan to continue to advocate for the arts and artists in our communities well beyond our 50th year.” Public Arts projects recently completed include a Community Arts Installation at 11 Park Drive in Wyandanch with the Albanese Development Corporation, fabricated by Spirit Ironworks, and designed by local artist Salinda Santiago. Sponsored by the Town of Babylon Local Development Corporation through the “Babylon Together Project,” a series of murals along the Cedar Beach underpass were completed by high school students from across the Town of Babylon, with their art teachers and artist Ron Becker, and supported by the Babylon Parks Department, and
the Flower of Honor Project on Straight Path in Wyandanch was unveiled, created by Fine Arts Photographer Harper Bella, highlighting Wyandanch Community Members. Through a grant from Creatives Rebuild New York Artist Employment Program (Tides Foundation), BACCA has completed various programs with artist administrators Harper Bella and Jose Tutiven. BACCA activities are held at Old Town Hall in Babylon Village, the Town Hall Annex in North Babylon, Wyandanch Plaza, and the BACCA Arts Center in Lindenhurst Village, as well as other locations throughout the Town of Babylon. Plans are currently being discussed for additional arts and cultural activities in an historic home in Amityville Village. To begin 2024, BACCA is announcing a Call to Artists to create a 50th Anniversary commemorative design, inviting the community to celebrate the occasion. Flu Shots And Surgical Facemasks Part Of Effort To Stem Flu
Flu virus was declared prevalent by the New York State Health Commissioner on December 6, 2023, and hospitals on Long Island and throughout the Hudson Valley are taking additional steps to prevent the spread of flu, including enhanced efforts to vaccinate all employees and distribution of surgical facemasks. Worn by employees, masks offer a physical barrier to flu transmission. This is a comprehensive endeavor to protect patients, visitors, and employees from exposure to the flu virus. A declaration of flu prevalence by the health commissioner triggers the public health law that was put in place by the state in 2014. Employees of hospitals and residential healthcare facilities and agencies who are not vaccinated against the flu are required to wear a mask while in areas where patients or residents are typically present. While an annual flu vaccine remains the single best method

for preventing the flu, a surgical facemask, worn by employees, provides added protection to patients, employees, and visitors. All hospitals on Long Island and in the Hudson Valley offer the flu vaccine to all employees and also provide employees with surgical facemasks, as required by New York State public health law. As a matter of standard practice, all Long Island and Hudson Valley hospitals enforce universally recognized precautions to prevent the flu. These include hand washing, the use of hand sanitizers placed conveniently throughout the hospital, as well as goggles and gowns. In addition, all hospitals adhere to rigorous infection control guidelines and policies every day to ensure a clean environment for patients, staff, and visitors. These practices are especially important during flu season. Antiseptic wipes are located in patient rooms, workstations, hallways, and other treatment areas and are

easily accessible to hospital employees responsible for sanitizing medical equipment and surface areas. “Flu prevention is a priority at all hospitals on Long Island and in the Hudson Valley.
