A lemon meringue pie is the perfect warm-weather treat. Full of tangy lemon, bright coloring, and loaded with flavor, lemon meringue pie is almost like having sunshine on a plate. Enjoy this recipe, courtesy of “Jane’s Patisserie Celebrate!” (Sourcebooks) by Jane Dunn. (Note: The original metric measurements have been converted to imperial measurements (in parentheses) as closely as possible for U.S. bakers. The final recipe results may differ when measuring ingredients according to these two systems.)

Somewhere between marriage, raising children, work, friendships, family gatherings and keeping up with the beautiful chaos of everyday life, writing quietly found its place on the back burner. Not forgotten, just patiently waiting.

The End - Montauk. There’s a certain magic that begins the moment you cross into town. The air feels different. It’s as if the Atlantic has a way of reminding you to breathe a little deeper. Montauk has changed over the years. It’s no secret that influencers, luxury hotels, and social media have transformed this once-quiet fishing village into one of the East Coast’s trendiest
destinations. Prices have climbed right alongside its popularity, and yes, a weekend in peak summer can leave your wallet noticeably lighter. But here’s the secret seasoned Montauk lovers already know: you can still experience its charm without spending a fortune. And then there’s The Montauket, perched high above the water, where locals and visitors gather together to watch one of the most spectacular sunsets on Long Island. It truly never gets old. Beyond the well-known favorites lies the history that gives Montauk its soul. The iconic Montauk Point Lighthouse that has stood watch since 1796, guiding

Wander the quiet trails of Camp Hero, explore hidden beaches tucked away from the crowds, or simply take a scenic drive to discover the corners that don't always make it onto Instagram. Weekday mornings might be a bit too busy to enjoy something more complex than a bowl of cereal, but come the weekend, a homemade and hearty breakfast can make for a great start to a Saturday or Sunday morning. When such an opportunity presents itself, a little something sweet, like this recipe for “Coconut Flour Waffles and Coconut Milk With Blueberries” from Lines+Angles, can make for a great departure from standard weekday breakfasts.
Coconut Flour Waffles And Coconut Milk With Blueberrie s
Makes 4 servings For the waffles: 4 large eggs
1 tablespoon maple syrup or coconu t sugar 1 pinch salt 2 tablespoons coconut oil, melted
1⁄2 cup coconut milk
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1⁄2 cup coconut flour
1⁄4 teaspoon baking powder
1⁄4 cup fresh blueberries, lightly crus hed Cooking spray To serve: 1⁄4 cup fresh blueberries
DIRECTIONS: 1. For the waffles: Preheat a waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions. 2. Combine the eggs, sweetener, salt, coconut oil, coconut milk, and vanilla in a large mixing bowl, whisking until thoroughly combined. 3. Add the coconut flour, baking powder, and crushed blueberries, beating well until no longer lumpy. Let stand for 10 minutes. 4. Spray waffle iron with cooking spray. Ladle batter into the iron and close. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes or until golden and crisp. 5. Remove from the iron and keep warm to one side, covered loosely with aluminum foil. Cook remaining waffles in the same fashion. 6. To serve: Stack waffles on plates and top with blueberries. Tips To Tend A Garden In Late Summer
A
s summer winds down, long stretches of sunlight are dwindling and cooler temperatures are on the horizon. Gardening enthusiasts may wonder how they can manage their backyard gardens as the peak growing season comes to a close. People may not be eager to do much in their gardens come August, particularly because the air may be hot and the dew point high. And spending the final days of summer at the beach or in the pool may take priority. However, late summer is a great time to focus on certain tasks. Deadheading Many plants look better with the wilted flowers removed. Furthermore, some plants, such as with lilies and roses, will benefit from having spent blooms removed so that no unnecessary energy is drawn away from the www.longislandmediagroup.com
roots or bulbs. Research your plants and learn which can benefit from some late-summer deadheading to keep them thriving. Weeding Weeds can become problematic if they’re allowed to grow unabated. Routinely go into the garden and cull the weeds. Keep an eye open for pests According to Garden Smart, caterpillars and beetles may be chewing on garden plants by late summer, and aphids still may be problematic. Handpick insects off of vegetables and ornamental flowers, or use safe sprays for treating these issues. Plant cool weather vegetables Many plants will grow well when planted in late summer, according to Homesteading Family. Some such plants include turnips, beets, carrots, kale, chard, mustard greens,
and peas. You can begin turning your summer garden, or a portion of it, into a fall and winter garden. Consider succession planting Growing vegetables like beans or peas may be more successful if you try succession planting. This involves sowing new seeds every seven to 10 days to extend the harvest. Harvesting what’s ready Pick vegetables that are ready to eat, and remove any plants that have reached the end of their growing cycle. Convert planter boxes and containers This is a good time to start changing over summer annuals in containers and planter boxes to those that do well in fall, such as mums, asters, pansies, and goldenrod. There’s plenty of work to be done in the garden come the end of summer.

A study published in the journal Clinical Medicine found that exposure to plants and green spaces— particularly through gardening—is beneficial to both physical and mental health. Penn State Extension says working with soil and plants can help relax the mind and have a grounding effect, reducing stress, anxiety and even built-up anger. Gardening also helps people stay connected to the present moment rather than becoming caught up in their thoughts. Like nearly all forms of exercise, gardening can boost mood and lower stress and anxiety levels. In addition, establishing routines, such as spending part of each day weeding or tending to plants, creates a soothing rhythm that can help ease stress.
