2026 Summer Run Series

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is pleased to announce the return of the annual Summer Run Series. This eight-race series will begin Monday, June 8 and will run through Monday, August 10, 2026. Participation in the Summer Run Series will be limited to a total of 4,000 runners. The Amityville School District is pleased to announce the three newest SCOPE Education Services “Shining Stars” for the 2025-26 school year.

This year’s honorees are Ms. Sandra James, a teacher at Northwest Elementary School, who received the Teacher Service Award; Dr. John Cardone, principal at Amityville Memorial High School, who received the Administrator Service Award; and Ms. Sandra Donovan, the building principal secretary at

Amityville Memorial High School, who received the Support Staff Service Award.

Amityville’s remarkable honorees were selected due to their exemplary service to education and the Amityville school community. They were each recognized during SCOPE Education Services’ 25th Annual School District Awards Dinner, which took place on March 23.

SCOPE Education Services has recognized educators, administrators, support staff, and community members for more than

two decades, highlighting those who make meaningful contributions to education across Long Island.

SCOPE, founded in 1964, is a nonprofit organization chartered by the New York State Board of Regents. The organization provides a range of services to school districts, including professional development, enrichment programs, childcare, and training opportunities for educators, parents and students.

Celebrating Achievements At NHS Induction

In celebration of their overall achievements, Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School students were honored at the National Honor Society induction ceremony on March 24 in the school’s auditorium. Surrounded by family, friends, district administrators and Board of Education members, 35 new members were welcomed into the Isabella M. Driscoll Chapter of the organization.

The four National Honor Society officers spoke about the pillars of the organization and their importance — scholarship, character, leadership and service — before lighting a candle to signify each pillar.

Each inductee was called to the stage by an existing member to be honored for their successes and to receive their candle and certificate. Before reciting the oath for new members to repeat, Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School Principal Joseph Agosta addressed the inductees and commended them for their positivity. “Your achievements have brought you here, but it’s your values, your integrity, your compassion, and your willingness to lead and serve, that will define your impact moving forward,” he said. “We

are proud of you. We believe in you, and we look forward to all that you will accomplish as members of the National Honor Society.”

proved a pivotal step toward the eventual establishment of Earth Day in 1970, which EarthDay.org characterizes as the dawn of the modern environmental movement.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN

that a Special Meeting of the qualified voters of the Amityville Union Free School District (the “District”), Town of Babylon, Suffolk County and Town of Oyster Bay, Nassau County, New York will be held at the Amityville Public Library, 19 John St., Amityville, New York 11701 (the “Library”) on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, between the hours of 10:00am and 9:00pm, for the purpose of voting on the following items:

1) To adopt the annual budget of the Amityville Public Library for the fiscal year 2026-2027, and to authorize the requisite portion thereof to be raised by taxation upon the taxable property of the District; and

2) The election of two (2) members of the Board of Trustees, consisting of: (i) one (1) trustee to serve a five-year term commencing July 1, 2026 and expiring June 30, 2031; and (ii) one (1) trustee to serve a one-year term commencing July 1, 2026 and expiring June 30, 2027. The candidate receiving the highest number of votes shall be elected to the five-year term, and the candidate receiving the second highest number of votes shall be elected to the one-year term.

2) La elección de dos (2) miembros de la Junta de Síndicos, compuestos por: (i) uno (1) fideicomisario para servir un mandato de cinco años que comienza el 1 de julio de 2026 y expira el 30 de junio de 2031; y (ii) un (1) fideicomisario para cumplir un mandato de un año que comienza el 1 de julio de 2026 y expira el 30 de junio de 2027. The National External Diploma Program offers adults 21 and over, the opportunity to receive credit for their life

experiences, and earn a high school equivalency diploma without the challenge of taking lengthy timed examinations. NEDP, is a

competency based program for students who are unable to attend classes or who prefer to work at home.

Successful candidates for

NEDP include former ESL students, students who have been out of school for prolonged periods of time, or students who fare better

without the structure of tests. This program is an alternative to other programs.
