Breakfast Program Survey
The Massapequa School District will be conducting a survey of parents of students in kindergarten through fifth grade who attend the Massapequa elementary
schools to determine if there is any interest in a school breakfast program. If insufficient interest is determined, an exemption to participate in this program will be requested by the Massapequa Board of Education to the New York State Education Department.
Parents and taxpayers are asked to share their concerns regarding the district’s survey and exemption request by contacting the Massapequa Food Service office in writing at Massapequa Administration, 4925 Merrick Road, Massapequa, N.Y. 11758 or by phone at (516) 308-5745.

Oyster Bay Launches ‘Back the Blue’ Ribbon Campaign
In a powerful display of support for our law enforcement heroes, Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board are launching a ‘Back the Blue’ Ribbon Campaign in recognition of National Police Week (May 10th – 16th). This nationwide observance honors the brave men and women in blue who risk their lives to protect our communities, as well as those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
Free Blue Ribbons are available for residents to show their support for ‘Back the Blue’ by displaying blue ribbons on homes, businesses, storefronts, trees, and mailboxes.
“This campaign is a powerful way to say, ‘thank you’ to the courageous men and women in blue who put their lives on the line every day,” said Supervisor Saladino. “At a time when law enforcement officers continue to face unfair criticism and even calls to defund the police, it’s more important than ever to stand up and show our gratitude.”
“We are proud to live in the safest large suburban county in America, and that’s because of the dedication and sacrifice of our police officers,” added Councilman Imbroto. “When you call 911— whether for a burglary, a health emergency, or to protect your family—our officers are the ones who answer that call. Let’s show them we’ve got their backs.”

Oyster Bay Officials Promote Volunteer Firefighter Recruitment Drive
Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino, Councilwoman Vicki Walsh and Tax Receiver Jeff Pravato joined officials from the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office and members of the North Massapequa Fire Department to announce a volunteer firefighter recruitment drive that took place statewide. On April 18 and 19, fire departments conducted tours of their firehouses and apparatus, allowed visitors to try on turnout gear and offered activities throughout the firehouse. Residents were encouraged to attend and learn more at their local departments.
“The men and women of our fire service are heroes in our communities, and Long Island’s bravest need our help finding new recruits,” said Supervisor Saladino. “These individuals are not just firefighters. They are our neighbors, our friends, and Long Island’s first line
of defense. While most of us are asleep, they’re on call. While we’re with our families, they’re ready to leave theirs at a moment’s notice. When the alarm sounds, they don’t ask, ‘why me?’ They say ‘send me.’”
During the weekend of April 18-19, volunteer fire departments across the state opened their doors so residents could learn what it takes to be a volunteer firefighter as part of the statewide RecruitNY program. The volunteer fire service has 10,000 fewer members today than it did a decade ago. In recent years, departments have faced challenges recruiting and retaining volunteers for a variety of reasons.
Volunteer fire departments continue to seek additional members to maintain optimal emergency response services. To help boost recruitment, County Executive Bruce Blakeman launched nassausbravest.
com, outlining requirements and benefits of volunteering.
“You don’t need to be a hero to start – but you’ll become one when you do,” said Supervisor Saladino.
“Today’s volunteer firefighters are responding to more complex emergencies than ever before, and they need the next generation to step up. While there are
real benefits, such as tax breaks, tuition assistance and incentives, the greatest reward is earning the trust and gratitude of your community.”

‘Shed the Meds’ Drug Take Back Day Saturday, May 2nd
Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Massapequa Village Mayor Danny Pearl announced a partnership with Drug Free Long Island and the Nassau County Police Department (NCPD) to host a ‘Shed the Meds’ Drug Take Back Day at Massapequa Park Village Hall on Saturday, May 2, 2026 from 10:00am –1:00pm.
“This Drug Take Back Day is a great opportunity to rid your medicine cabinet of old and unwanted prescription drugs,” said Supervisor Saladino. “Through proper disposal of old medications,
we can prevent them from contaminating the environment through improper disposal and also keep them out of the wrong hands and away from young people.”
In cooperation with Drug Free Long Island and the Nassau County Police Department, the Town and Village will host this event at Massapequa Park Village Hall, in the back parking lot. This program is anonymous.
For those who cannot attend this Drug Take Back Day, disposal containers are located at all Police Precincts throughout the county for safe deposit.
For those looking to turn in unused or expired medication, be sure to make sure of the following:
• If left in original container, please remove all personal information from label.
• Liquid medication will not be accepted
• Illicit substances are also not part of this initiative.
• Intra-venous solutions, injectables, and syringes will be accepted.

“New York State Law allows my office to provide taxpayers with a 40-day penalty free period from the date the tax is due during which payment may be made without penalty,” Receiver Pravato explained. “After the 40 days, State Law requires a one percent penalty be added for each month the tax remains unpaid. So, make your payment before May 11th and don’t delay, and you will ensure you aren’t paying more out of pocket than you need to.”
The Tax Office is open
in both Town Hall North, 74 Audrey Avenue, Oyster Bay, and Town Hall South, 977 Hicksville Road, Massapequa, from 9:00 am to 4:45 pm to assist residents and accept payments with a check, cash or credit card*. On May 8th and 11th both offices will be open from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. When paying in person, residents are reminded to bring the entire tax bill. There are also outdoor walkup windows, and drop boxes have been installed at both locations for residents to make payments when the Tax Office is closed.
Residents who prefer to mail in their payments, should send them to the Office of the Receiver of Taxes, 74 Audrey Avenue, Oyster Bay, N.Y. 117711539. Please make your
check payable to Jeffrey P. Pravato, Receiver of Taxes and indicate your property’s Section, Block and Lot and telephone number on the check. Tax payments may also be made online through a link on our Town website, www.oysterbaytown.com. Residents may view tax bills, print out a hard copy, or pay taxes with an ACH check payment for a fee of $1.75, or by credit card for a much higher fee* charged by the credit card companies. *The Town of Oyster Bay receives no portion of this fee.
