VILLAGE OF LINDENHURST CELEBRATES ARBOR DAY

The Village of Lindenhurst proudly celebrated Arbor Day with the help of students from the Lindenhurst School District by planting a new tree at the Meridale Park Triangle. The Village extends its sincere thanks to Keith Arco and Al Lopez of the Village’s Horticulture Department for their guidance and assistance in making this Arbor Day celebration a success.

The “Be Smart, Don’t Start” Pizza Box Sticker Campaign Returns To Lindenhurst — Led By Student Voices

Lindy Cares, in partnership with Lindenhurst Middle School students, is excited to announce the return of the Pizza Box Sticker Campaign. Back by popular demand, this youthled initiative continues to empower students to take an active role in preventing substance misuse within their community.

As part of the campaign kickoff, Lindy Cares and student participants will be visiting local businesses on Friday, April 24 to distribute sticker dispensers and officially launch this year’s initiative.

This year’s campaign proudly features a studentdesigned sticker created by Stella Baumbach, the official winner of the campaign. Stella’s design captures a powerful message encouraging youth to make smart, healthy choices, and will be seen across Lindenhurst on pizza boxes and takeout items throughout the community.

The Village of Lindenhurst held its annual Organization Meeting, where Trustees Patrick Pichichero, Maryann Weckerle, and David Collins were officially sworn into office by Acting Suffolk

County Court Judge James McDonaugh.

The ceremony marks the beginning of their new terms serving the community.

During the meeting, Mayor Michael Lavorata also re-appointed Maryann

Weckerle as Deputy Mayor, recognizing her continued dedication and leadership within the Village. The Village looks forward to the contributions of its elected officials as they work together to serve the residents of Lindenhurst.

Arbor Day Events & Activities

Communities across Long Island and the nation will celebrate Arbor Day on Friday, April 24, 2026, with events dedicated to tree planting, environmental education, and the preservation of natural resources.

Arbor Day is an annual observance that encourages individuals and organizations to plant and care for trees, highlighting their essential

role in improving air quality, conserving energy, supporting wildlife, and enhancing community landscapes.

The main Arbor Day event on Long Island in 2026 will be Branches in Bloom: A Spring Festival at Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park on Sunday, April 26, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This free, family-friendly festival will showcase blooming magnolias and cherry trees,

along with educational exhibits, guided tours, live music, and activities for all ages.

Additional celebrations include an Arbor Day event at Bayard Cutting Arboretum on Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., featuring free, familyfriendly programming centered on the importance of trees and conservation.

Suffolk County will also mark the occasion with its “Plant it Forward” initiative, launching April 24 as part of the Suffolk County 250. The initiative introduces a Living Legacy Tree Registry to document tree plantings across the county in honor of the milestone celebration.

In addition, PSEG Long Island, in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, will promote proper tree planting through customer programs designed to enhance energy efficiency and support reliable service.

Residents are encouraged to take part in local events, plant trees at home, and support conservation efforts throughout their communities. For the most up-to-date event details or to register for activities, visitors should check the official websites of the Planting Fields Foundation and Bayard Cutting Arboretum.

an Eastern Redbud tree, a species native to Long Island known for its vibrant spring blooms and environmental

benefits. Eastern Redbuds support local ecosystems by providing food for pollinators, improving soil health, and enhancing the beauty of community green spaces.

This hands-on event

gave students the opportunity to learn about the importance of environmental stewardship while making a lasting contribution to their community.

Debut Theater Company Presents Kiss The Fortune Teller

Debut Theater Company is presenting an original play, Kiss The Fortune Teller, by Anthony DiFranco, at the BACCA Arts Center in Lindenhurst at 149 North Wellwood Avenue, from May 2 through May 10. Kiss The Fortune Teller is a mystery/love story/ drama set in today’s Little Italy, in which a peculiar sibling loyalty helps a group of ordinary people survive a very dark past.

Like a modern folk tale,

it has lurid moments, unexpected twists, and humor tucked into odd places.

This play takes its place among the many popular Debut Theater Company productions that offer audiences a sensitive and positive representation of life. These include recently: “Lucky Bird,” “High Expectations,” “The Salamander Solution,” and “Enchantment.”

The cast for KISS THE FORTUNE TELLER

includes Kevin Russo, Michael Cesarano, Kate Russo, and Deborah Rupy, with a script by Anthony DiFranco, and direction by Martin Knapp. All are Long Island residents.

The BACCA Lindenhurst schedule is May 2, 8, 9 at 7:30 pm, and May 3 & 10 at 1:30 pm.

Lindenhurst School District Announces Nominations For Pride Of Lindenhurst Award

The Lindenhurst Board of Education is proud to announce the opening of nominations for the annual Pride of Lindenhurst Award, recognizing individuals and groups whose outstanding contributions inspire pride throughout the Lindenhurst Public Schools and the greater school district community.

Purpose

The purpose of this award is to recognize an outstanding contribution made by an individual or an organization to instill pride in the Lindenhurst Public Schools and, by doing so, in

the Lindenhurst Union Free School District. Award Categories Awards are presented annually in the following categories, with only one recipient selected per category:

Category 1: Open to any student or group of students, male or female, elementary or secondary

Category 2: Open to any employee of the Lindenhurst Union Free School District, except central office administrators

Category 3: Open to any community organization or individual

who demonstrates an outstanding effort to improve pride in the Lindenhurst Union Free School District

Nominations and Awards

Nominations must be submitted in writing and mailed to the President of the Board of Education. Members of the Board of Education and Central Office Administrators are not eligible for this award. Awards in Categories 2 and 3 will be presented at a public Board of Education meeting in June. For Category 1, elementary student

recipients will be honored at their school’s graduation ceremony, while secondary student recipients will be recognized at the high school graduation.

Community members are encouraged to submit nominations for deserving candidates who exemplify dedication, leadership, and a commitment to strengthening the Lindenhurst school community.

A recent study published in the Journal of Happiness Studies examined 70,000 participants, each of whom received surveys that asked questions regarding their volunteering habits and mental health.
