an Eastern Redbud tree, a species native to Long Island known for its vibrant spring blooms and environmental
benefits. Eastern Redbuds support local ecosystems by providing food for pollinators, improving soil health, and enhancing the beauty of community green spaces.

gave students the opportunity to learn about the importance of environmental stewardship while making a lasting contribution to their community.

Debut Theater Company Presents Kiss The Fortune Teller
Debut Theater Company is presenting an original play, Kiss The Fortune Teller, by Anthony DiFranco, at the BACCA Arts Center in Lindenhurst at 149 North Wellwood Avenue, from May 2 through May 10 . Kiss The Fortune Teller is a mystery/love story/ drama set in today’s Little Italy, in which a peculiar sibling loyalty helps a group of ordinary people survive a very dark past.
Like a modern folk tale, it has lurid moments,
unexpected twists, and humor tucked into odd places.

The “Be Smart, Don’t Start” Pizza Box Sticker Campaign Returns To Lindenhurst — Led By Student Voices
Lindy Cares, in partnership with Lindenhurst Middle School students, is excited to announce the return of the Pizza Box Sticker Campaign. Back by popular demand, this youthled initiative continues to empower students to take an active role in preventing substance misuse within their community.
As part of the campaign kickoff, Lindy Cares and student participants will be visiting local businesses on Friday, April 24 to distribute sticker dispensers and officially launch this year’s initiative.
This year’s campaign proudly features a studentdesigned sticker created by Stella Baumbach, the official winner of the campaign. Stella’s design captures a powerful message encouraging youth to make smart, healthy choices, and will be seen across Lindenhurst on pizza boxes and takeout items throughout the community.
Local favorites Spasso’s, Mr. G’s, The Villa, The Pizzeria, Abbott’s Frozen Custard, Pastsy’s and Son Italian Bakery and Muni’s Coffee Joint have partnered
with the campaign and will be distributing the student-designed stickers on their pizza boxes and takeout items. Through this collaboration, prevention messaging is being delivered directly into homes, sparking conversations and raising awareness in a creative and impactful way.

“Over the course of the last 10 years, Lindenhurst students have consistently shown to be using vape products at a much lower rate than state, county, and even national averages, and they’re continuing that trend by staying on top of the messaging and educating themselves about the way people profit off of dangerous fads that become trends and consumerism.”
By combining student leadership with strong community partnerships, the “Be Smart, Don’t Start” campaign continues to grow as a meaningful prevention strategy rooted in connection, visibility, and empowerment.

PSEG Long Island Celebrates Earth Month With Free Trees
PSEG Long Island is celebrating Earth Day all month long by distributing free trees and handing out LED lightbulbs and reusable shopping bags at numerous locations throughout Long Island.
“At PSEG Long Island, Earth Day is a time to showcase the ways that we can help the environment and also help drive affordability over the long term,” said Scott Jennings, PSEG Long Island’s president and COO. “Customers who strategically plant trees in their yards can save up to 20% on their home’s summer energy bills once the trees are fully grown, while also improving air quality and reducing storm water runoff for all residents across Long Island and the Rockaways.”

PSEG Long Island, Suffolk County, and the Rockaway Initiative for
Sustainability and Equity (RISE) are partnering with the PSEG Foundation and the Arbor Day Foundation to provide 500 customers with a free tree. For customers in Suffolk and Nassau counties, the free, energy-saving trees can be reserved at https://get. arborday.org/pseg until all trees are claimed. The program highlights how planting the right trees in the right location can reduce utility bills and promote ongoing system reliability.

The Energy-Saving Trees online tool helps customers estimate the annual energy savings that will result from planting trees in the most strategic location near their homes or businesses. All participating customers will receive one tree and are expected to care for and plant it at the location provided by the online tool, taking into account utility wires and obstructions. The types of trees offered include river birch, flowering dogwood, red oak, American elm, and Japanese cedar.
“Trees add beauty to neighborhoods and provide
places of respite, along with many other benefits such as helping reduce energy consumption and filter pollutants that may negatively affect community health and wellbeing,” said Calvin Ledford, president of the PSEG Foundation. “The PSEG Foundation is proud to support the EnergySaving Trees program, which will help provide 500 trees to customers on Long Island and in the Rockaways. We are excited that our employees can volunteer to be part of this initiative, distributing the trees and sharing energy efficiency information, and help create a more environmentally sustainable ecosystem across Long Island and the Rockaways.”

Hope For The Warriors To Host Free Virtual Career Workshops
Geared for the military community, Hope For The Warriors will present a series of free virtual career workshops with Robert Half, a talent solutions and business consulting firm.
The four-part series begins Thursday, April 23, at 11 a.m. EDT. Led by career coaches from Hope For The Warriors and Robert Half, the onehour interactive workshops are designed for veterans, service members, and military spouses navigating the civilian job market.
Participants will receive guidance on job-search skills, including resume development, interview preparation, networking strategies, and exploring civilian career options during the transition from military service.
The following are the topics of the four-part series:
• Thursday, April 23 – How to Ace the Interview (Without Sounding Scripted): Designed for first-time
interviewees and those returning to the job market after an extended gap, this session focuses on confident communication and effective interview techniques.
• Thursday, July 23 –
National Hire a Veteran Day – Employer Spotlight Panel: Employers will discuss the skills they seek in veteran candidates, how veterans can stand out in a competitive job market, and common misconceptions — and how to overcome them.
• Thursday, September 17 – Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) – How to Get Seen: This workshop will explore why applications can disappear into the “black hole” and provide strategies for improving resume visibility within ATS platforms

Confidence: Participants will learn how to discuss pay, understand market value, navigate civilian compensation structures and performance reviews, and determine when and how to negotiate.

As a part of Hope For The Warriors’ Warrior’s Compass transition program, the free, virtual career workshop series provides training to help prepare those in the
military landscape for a job search in today’s civilian climate. The workshops offer tools and tips, as well as opportunities to network with other service members, military spouses, and companies committed to hiring those with military backgrounds.
“Service members and veterans bring strong skills to the workforce, but the transition from military service to civilian employment can be challenging for some. Arbor Day Events & Activities
Communities across Long Island and the nation will celebrate Arbor Day on Friday, April 24, 2026, with events dedicated to tree planting, environmental education, and the preservation of natural resources.
Arbor Day is an annual observance that encourages individuals and organizations to plant and care for trees, highlighting their essential role in improving air quality, conserving energy, supporting wildlife, and enhancing community landscapes.
The main Arbor Day event on Long Island in 2026 will be Branches in Bloom: A Spring Festival at Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park on Sunday, April 26, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This free, family-friendly festival will showcase blooming magnolias and cherry trees, along with educational exhibits, guided tours, live music, and activities for all
ages.
Additional celebrations include an Arbor Day event at Bayard Cutting Arboretum on Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., featuring free, familyfriendly programming centered on the importance of trees and conservation.
Suffolk County will also mark the occasion with its “Plant it Forward” initiative, launching April 24 as part of the Suffolk County 250. The initiative introduces a Living Legacy Tree Registry to document tree plantings across the county in honor of the milestone celebration.
In addition, PSEG Long Island, in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, will promote proper tree planting through customer programs designed to enhance energy efficiency and support reliable service.
Residents are encouraged to take part in local events, plant trees at home, and support conservation efforts throughout their communities. Village of Lindenhurst Trustees Sworn In
The Village of Lindenhurst held its annual Organization Meeting, where Trustees Patrick Pichichero, Maryann Weckerle, and David Collins were officially sworn into office by Acting Suffolk
County Court Judge James McDonaugh. The ceremony marks the beginning of their new terms serving the community.
During the meeting, Mayor Michael Lavorata also re-appointed Maryann
Weckerle as Deputy Mayor, recognizing her continued dedication and leadership within the Village. The Village looks forward to the contributions of its elected officials as they work together to serve the residents of Lindenhurst.

According to The Knot, 37 percent of couples hired a wedding planner in 2023, an increase of 7 percent over 2019, when the pandemic had yet to be declared and inflation had not led to such significant price increases. Wedding planners can help couples navigate some costly waters so they can avoid starting their life together with substantial weddingrelated debt.
Volunteering is a great way for individuals to strengthen their communities, but it also can be a unique way for individuals to improve their own overall happiness. A recent study published in the Journal of Happiness Studies examined 70,000 participants, each of whom received surveys that asked questions regarding their volunteering habits and mental health. The study found that, when compared to those who did not volunteer, people who had volunteered in the previous 12 months were more satisfied with their lives and gave their overall health higher ratings.
