Hope For The Warriors To Host Free Virtual Career Workshops

Geared for the military community, Hope For The Warriors will present a series of free virtual career workshops with Robert Half, a talent solutions and business consulting firm.

The four-part series begins Thursday, April 23, at 11 a.m. EDT. Led by career coaches from Hope For The Warriors and Robert Half, the onehour interactive workshops are designed for veterans, service members, and military spouses navigating the civilian job market.

Participants will receive guidance on job-search skills, including resume development, interview preparation, networking strategies, and exploring civilian career options during the transition from military service.

The following are the topics of the four-part series:

• Thursday, April 23 – How to Ace the Interview (Without Sounding Scripted): Designed for first-time

interviewees and those returning to the job market after an extended gap, this session focuses on confident communication and effective interview techniques.

• Thursday, July 23  –

National Hire a Veteran Day – Employer Spotlight Panel: Employers will discuss the skills they seek in veteran candidates, how veterans can stand out in a competitive job market, and common misconceptions — and how to overcome them.

• Thursday, September 17 – Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) – How to Get Seen: This workshop will explore why applications can disappear into the “black hole” and provide strategies for improving resume visibility within ATS platforms

Confidence: Participants will learn how to discuss pay, understand market value, navigate civilian compensation structures and performance reviews, and determine when and how to negotiate.

For the first 15 participants who attend any of the events for its entirety, Robert Half will provide 30day access to its Percipio learning platform. Percipio features thousands of career development resources, including courses on resume writing, interview prep, leadership, Microsoft Office skills, and more. The goal of the self-guided program is to help users sharpen their skills and explore new interests to help take the next step in their career journey.

As a part of Hope For The Warriors’ Warrior’s Compass transition program, the free, virtual career workshop series provides training to

help prepare those in the military landscape for a job search in today’s civilian climate. The workshops offer tools and tips, as well as opportunities to network with other service members, military spouses, and companies committed to hiring those with military backgrounds.

“Service members and veterans bring strong skills to the workforce, but the transition from military service to civilian employment can be challenging for some. Amityville Memorial High School Artist

The Amityville School District is proud to announce that Amityville High School sophomore Jiselle Hale was selected as an exhibiting artist for the Long Island’s Best Young Artists exhibition at The Heckscher Museum.

Jiselle is also the recipient of the 2026 Renzo and Lynette Bianchi Scholarship Award ($400) within this exhibition. Now in its 30th year, this annual exhibition features 84 extraordinary works of art created by Long Island

high school students from 63 schools. This year, 402 high school students submitted artwork. The final exhibition was juried by Heckscher Museum Consulting Curator Meredith A. Brown and guest juror Aaron Feltman. The opening reception for this exhibition will take place on March 28 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Heckscher Museum of Art in Huntington. Student artwork will be on display at the museum from March 29-May 3.

Senior Scam Prevention Program

The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA), Babylon Town Clerk Gerry Compitello, and Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney are holding a free senior scam prevention program on Wednesday, April 29 at the AFA Barbara Rabinowitz Education & Resource Center (149 Schleigel Boulevard, Amityville) at 10:00 am.

As part of the “Preventing the Financial Exploitation of Seniors” program, staff from the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office will:

• Describe common scams targeting senior citizens;

• Explain warning signs to watch for;

• Teach proactive steps seniors can take to protect themselves from scams, fraud, and identity theft; and

• Instruct how to respond if a senior is victimized.

Scammers steal an estimated $3 billion each year from senior citizens through elder fraud schemes, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Seniors are a common target for financial scams; the FBI states they are often targeted because they are more likely to have financial savings, own a home, have good credit; and tend to be trusting and polite. They become especially vulnerable if they have a cognitive or memory impairment.

“AFA is grateful to District Attorney Tierney and Town Clerk Compitello for working with us to empower seniors and safeguard them from being exploited by scammers,” said Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr., AFA’s President and CEO and former chair of the New York State Senate’s Consumer Protection Committee. “Knowledge, information, and awareness about how to

spot scams and safeguards to take are crucial tools seniors should have to protect themselves and their finances.”

“Protecting our senior citizens from financial exploitation is a top priority for my office,” said Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney. “These scammers are ruthless and specifically target our most vulnerable residents, often causing devastating financial and emotional harm. Through education and awareness programs like this one, we can equip seniors and their families with the knowledge they need to recognize warning signs, avoid becoming victims, and report suspected fraud. I commend the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America and Town Clerk Compitello for partnering with us on this critical initiative to keep our seniors safe.”

Programs like this can make a real difference in preventing financial exploitation.”

Students Celebrate Women In Law Day

The Copiague School District connected classroom learning to real-world experiences on March 13, as eleven students represented the district at a Women in Law Day conference held at the John P. Cohalan Court Complex in Central Islip — joining courthouses across the state in recognizing and celebrating Women in Law Day. Walter G. O’Connell

Copiague High School students met with a panel of female law professionals including judges, lawyers, clerks, a court reporter and an interpreter. Students asked thoughtful questions during the panel presentation, took notes and expanded their understanding of careers within the criminal justice system.

included Alexa Blanco, Sarah Theranus, Stephanie Rekas, Samantha Molina, Yeslyn Canales, Tatum Webster, Alexi Gates, Melanie Robertson, Emily Sagramsingh, Tiffany Lopez and Aneisa Nicholas. They were accompanied by You and the Law teacher and mock trial coach Stephanie Rafuse.

Communities across Long Island and the nation will celebrate Arbor Day on Friday, April 24, 2026, with events dedicated to tree planting, environmental education, and the preservation of natural resources.

Arbor Day is an annual observance that encourages individuals and organizations to plant and care for trees, highlighting their essential role in improving air quality, conserving energy, supporting wildlife, and enhancing community landscapes.

The main Arbor Day event on Long Island in 2026 will be Branches in Bloom: A Spring Festival at Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic

Park on Sunday, April 26, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This free, family-friendly festival will showcase blooming magnolias and cherry trees, along with educational exhibits, guided tours, live music, and activities for all ages.

Additional celebrations include an Arbor Day event at Bayard Cutting Arboretum on Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., featuring free, family-friendly programming centered on the importance of trees and conservation.

Suffolk County will also mark the occasion with its “Plant it Forward” initiative, launching April 24 as part of the Suffolk County 250. The initiative introduces a Living Legacy

Tree Registry to document tree plantings across the county in honor of the milestone celebration. In addition, PSEG Long Island, in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, will promote proper tree planting through customer programs designed to enhance energy efficiency and support reliable service.

Residents are encouraged to take part in local events, plant trees at home, and support conservation efforts throughout their communities. LILTA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing graduation rates and supporting higher
