Offer to take out a veteran for breakfast, lunch or dinner. If you see a veteran eating in a restaurant, anonymously pay the bill for that person. If you own a restaurant, offer them a meal on the house. · Buy from veterans. Seek out and purchase from veteran-owned businesses. · Volunteer at a VA hospital. Spend time with veterans where they receive care for current health needs or past injuries suffered in combat.

· Participate in a parade. If your town hosts a Veterans Day parade, ﬁnd out how you can volunteer or be a part of it. Oftentimes parade oﬃcials enable youth groups, such as high school marching bands or scouting troops, to participate in the parade. · Ask a veteran to speak. If you work in a school or a community center, ask veterans to share their experiences with area youth. · Thank them for their service and ask how they’re doing. A simple “thank you” and “how are you doing” can go farther than you think.

Chris Sweeney, the genius behind the Nog Chugging Cheer Mongers bus, had everyone in splits when asked about the prospects of winning again, confidently stating, “Well, some people have to come in second place, but not us!” The presence of numerous Elf Teams was palpable. From the Merry Misfits to ‘All The Jingle Ladies’, the South Shore Boaters, Team Joy with Jenny Anderson, Reindeer Raelyn, Tinsel Teagan, the ‘Merry Merry Treemendous Friends’, and many more, every team brought their distinct energy, celebrating the spirit of giving. Notably, Team Joy announced a Chuck E Cheese fundraiser slated for Monday, November 13 in West Islip. Lindy Cares’ Gingerbread Getaway bus was a spectacle. Additionally, the Copiague Kringlers announced their leadership under the Copiague Community Care Coalition, steered by Teri Kroll. Santa Tom, Rebecca Slone, and many others played significant roles in this grandeur. Jillian Yuni steered the ‘Latke Loves’ team, and the ‘Sleigh All the Way’ team, affectionately termed the Giggling Elves, garnered attention for winning the junior champion title previously. The most prominent figure, without a doubt, was Town of Babylon Supervisor, Rich Schaffer.

On a picturesque October Sunday, Amityville burst into festive spirit, all thanks to the exceptional efforts of KiDS NEED MoRE. The magic commenced at 600 Albany Avenue, where elves, dignitaries, and the community united under KiDS NEED MoRE’s banner to usher in a splendid holiday season. The event witnessed the presence of eminent personalities including Town of Babylon Supervisor, Rich Schaffer, Suffolk County Legislator Jason Richberg, and Jennifer Martin, representing Assemblywoman Kimberly Jean Pierre. Marcia Besserman, representing the Copiague Chamber of Commerce, also graced the occasion with her presence. One of the day’s notable moments was Johnny Ray, affectionately known as Johnny Jingles, being honored by Supervisor Rich Schaffer with a special proclamation. Recognizing Johnny’s unwavering commitment to spreading holiday cheer, October 29th will henceforth be celebrated as ‘Johnny Jingles Day’. Costello’s Ace Hardware, ever the beacon of community spirit, unveiled its ambitious toy drive initiative. Representatives Al Littman and Joe from Costello’s Ace Hardware shared plans to collect toys across their Long Island outlets and collaborate with KiDS NEED MoRE to ensure the gifts reach deserving hands.

Students, Teachers Celebrate Unity Day Students and teachers throughout the Amityville School District celebrated Unity Day on Oct. 18. Unity Day is a national effort to prevent bullying through the promotion of kindness and compassion.

Students and teachers throughout the district took part in numerous activities to promote inclusivity and acceptance for all regardless of gender, race, religion and sexual orientation. At each school, students

RECOGNIZING UNITY DAY - Northwest Elementary School students and teachers wore orange to recognize Unity Day.

PARK AVENUE MEMORIAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL - Students at Park STUDENTS CRAFTED AN ORANGE CHAIN - Park Avenue Memorial Elementary Avenue Memorial Elementary School in Amityville created posters and wore orange to School students also crafted an orange chain in the school’s main lobby, which features celebrate Unity Day positive messages.

On Oct. 12, Northeast Elementary School in Amityville celebrated Hispanic/Latino Heritage Night and the opening of their long-awaited playground. The evening began with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new playground, after which,

children were able to play thanks to the efforts of the board of education and the central administration in helping to make the playground a reality. The evening continued with a celebration of Hispanic/Latino Heritage in the gymnasium. The performances included

singing, cultural dances, food and music. It was a collaborative event, as some of the performers and volunteers included staff members, family members of staff members, and former students in the Amityville School District.

The Amityville School District celebrated National School Board Recognition Month at its monthly meeting on Oct. 11. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Gina Talbert commended each board member for their efforts in the Amityville school community. “In my role as superintendent of the Amityville Union Free School District, I have had the privilege of witnessing

firsthand the tireless efforts and unwavering support that each of you provide in your distinguished roles,” Dr. Talbert said. “Your leadership and guidance have been instrumental in shaping the direction of our educational initiatives as well as our discussions around policies.” Students from each school crafted colorful thank-you cards for each board trustee to express

their gratitude. Additionally, the district also recognized District Clerk Christian Code, who resigned on Oct. 31. A 2008 graduate of Amityville Memorial High School, Mr. Code described it as a full circle moment to serve the Amityville school community. The district would like to thank all of the board members for their dedication to the community.

Sleep Association reports that focusing on breath might be able to help induce sleep for people struggling to fall asleep. In addition to helping reduce stress and promote relaxation, breathing techniques are useful during labor to focus and release tension. Individuals with COPD often find it

difficult to breathe, which can compound anxiety and make it even harder to breathe. But the COPD Foundation notes that two different breathing techniques can help an individual take in air without working hard: abdominal breathing and pursed-lips breathing.

Livoti, LCSW, offers expertise in the ways individuals can utilize healthy coping strategies during the holiday season. Participants will also learn about the multitude of support services offered from both hospital and community

based social workers. Ms. Livoti has been a part of the NYU Langone care team since 2011 with extensive experience in supporting not only her patients, but their caregivers and loved ones. In 2021 she began working

specifically with the breast cancer patient population at NYU Perlmutter Cancer Center. Ms. Livoti is wellversed in the resources available through NYU PCC and the community for her breast cancer patients and

takes great pride in providing comprehensive psychosocial care to those with which she works. This free event is sponsored by The Junior Coalition of the Manhasset Women’s Coalition Against

Getting Ready For Winter At Ethical Friends Of Children Ethical Friends of Children, a free shop for Long Island children in need is prepared for cold weather. Volunteers sorted through recently donated clothing. The program has put out a call for children’s clothing for girls, sizes two to size 8; boys clothing 0 to 6 months and sizes 7-8-9.

Shoes are always welcome. This free outreach program, run and supported by the Ethical Humanist Society of Long Island in Garden City since 1985, assists more than 2500 children and their families each year by providing them with clothing, backpacks

for school and infant furniture. The service is set up like a store so people can select what they want from a wide variety of clothes. In addition to clothing, the program distributes donations of pampers, children’s puzzles and small toys, EFC is staffed entirely

by volunteers and there is no charge for any services. Individuals, families, or community groups donate gently used clothing and any cash donations go entirely towards purchase of needed items for children, such as diapers and formula. “Customers” are referred by many of

the area’s social service organizations and are supported by both religiously affiliated and private agencies funded by Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Volunteers are always welcome to help sort, organize and deliver clothing and goods. To
