Suffolk County Legislature Presiding Officer DuWayne Gregory attended “The Goals and Success Seminar” on Monday, August 10th, at the Wyandanch Public Library. The Wyandanch Public Library, along with other community agencies, partnered with the Suffolk County Department of Labor to provide youths with summer and seasonal jobs. Over 50 at-risk teens from the Wyandanch community were in attendance. “Always look ahead of you and not behind,” Sylvia Archibald, Director of the Wyandanch Public Library advised the students. “Have faith in yourself, and you will be amazed at what you can achieve. Success may not always be easy but it will be worth it.”

Featuring more than 60 programs, it is annually attended by students from Long Island, New York City and additional neighborhoods throughout the TriState Area. Usdan has introduced the arts to more than 60,000 young people since its inaugural season in 1968. It is a gentle, healing practice that focuses on strength, flexibility and breathing techniques for relaxation. The emphasis on

breathing can be transformational. Slow, deep breathing can give you a sense of security and safety, essential to the parasympathetic nervous system. Learning to control breath can lead to a sense of calm and well-being. This helps to better manage stress and negative emotions that so often plague children and adults alike. One of the benefits of being a funeral director is that I get to listen to many learned clergymen. I would like to share with you part of a eulogy recently presented by an insightful clergyman. The eulogy started out the same as many eulogies I had heard before. The deceased was praised for all the good he had done in this world. The immediate family and friends were assured the deceased was in a better place now void of suffering and filled with joy. Then he spoke of the relationship the deceased had with his family and friends. He said although your loved one’s life has ended, your relationship with him will never end. He will always love you and you will always love him. His relationship with you is like a stone thrown in a quiet ocean. We never know on what shore the ripples will land and what effect they will have on that shore. Like your relationship with the deceased, you never really know how great of an effect the deceased has had not only on you but on your children and your children’s children. The clergyman went on to say that you should continue to think of the deceased as a source of comfort, joy, strength, wisdom and love. Because just as if a person would move to a new town to prepare a home for his family to come, you would continue to think of him as being with you. The deceased has simply gone to a new home and is awaiting your arrival. Although the deceased has died, his thoughts, love and your relationship with him will live with you forever. The clergyman concluded by saying all people and all relationships affect our lives forever and never end. Just as the stones thrown in the ocean affect the ocean, some relationships greatly affect us, some only to a minimal amount, but they all affect us and all relationships stay with us forever and affect our lives every day.

Green then enrolled to the University of North Carolina where he ended his undergraduate stay by bringing the NCAA Division I championship to Chapel Hill in 2009. Following his NCAA success, Green was selected in the second round by the Cleveland Cavaliers before becoming a member of the Spurs. He then went on to make back-to-back

NBA Championship appearances. In his first finals appearance in 2013, he set a league record for most three-point field goals in NBA Finals history. In 2014, Danny and the Spurs beat the Miami Heat in a rematch of the previous year to claim the NBA Finals Championship. Despite being a nationally known basketball figure, Danny Green still returns home to North Babylon to take part in community initiatives, participating in local clean-up events and helping repair local basketball courts, while also hosting youth basketball camps. In 2014, Supervisor Schaffer presented Green with a key to the town for his contributions to the Babylon community.

The American Heart Association is proud to have Gabriella Lisboa serving as the 2015 Long Island Heart Walk “Red Cape” Ambassador. This year’s Long Island Heart Walk will be taking place on Sunday, September 20th, at Jones Beach. Gabriella was just 6 months old when she was diagnosed with DCRV (Double Chamber of Right Ventricle) and had to have two open heart surgeries when she was nine months old. Today, she is a happy and healthy and has made it her mission to raise money and awareness for the American Heart Association so that they can do more research and educate others so that there are more survivors like her. At the Heart Walk, survivors are celebrated. A “Red Cap” is a red baseball cap featuring the American Heart Association logo. “Red Caps” refer to survivors

of heart attack, cardiac arrest or heart surgery who wear the red caps as a symbol of their survival while walking in the Heart Walk. “White Caps” will be distributed to stroke survivors the day of the walk. Pediatric cardiovascular disease survivors will receive red super hero capes to acknowledge their courage. Hundreds of survivors from across Long Island participate to show that heart disease and stroke can be beaten. The American Heart Association estimates there are more than 71 million Americans alive with one or more types of cardiovascular disease. As Red Cape Ambassador for the Long Island Heart Walk, Gabriella will help create awareness about the importance of survivors participating in the event and to create awareness that heart disease and stroke aren’t “just an

older man’s diseases.” On Sunday, September 20th, join our “Red Cape” Ambassador and thousands of other survivors, families and friends from all over Long Island at the Long Island Heart Walk at Jones Beach, Field 5. The annual success of the Long Island Heart Walk is due in part to national sponsor, Subway.
