Raiphy Jerez, a ninthgrade student at Edmund W. Miles Middle School, programed his LEGO Robotics robot to solve a Rubik’s Cube in less than three minutes. As part of an enrichment
necessary for the robot to solve the Rubik’s Cube. Holiday Magic In collaboration with the Christmas Magic organization, a non-profit dedicated to collecting toys, gifts and donations for the homeless and children in need on Long Island, members of the WAC PAC Club at Amityville Memorial High School helped bring holiday magic to the lives of 84 children at the Middle Island Caring
for Kids/Lifeline Mediation Center. Each WAC PAC member received a letter with the name of the child, age and the three items he or she had on their wish list. Under the advisement of Jason McGowan, students were given $100, provided by the Christmas Magic organization, and participated in a shopping
trip to Target where they purchased items on the wish lists. For three days after school, students wrapped the presents they purchased with decorate paper and ribbons. The organization picked up the wrapped gifts and delivered them to the children at the center.

Seventh- and eighthgrade students at Copiague Middle School showcased their hard work and superb scientific knowledge in the school’s annual science fair. Students enrolled in the science research class and regular science classes were tasked with picking a topic of their interest to research and conduct an experiment. Choosing to work on their own or with a partner, students created a project display board of their experiment that explained the steps they took during the process and their results. During the science fair, students presented their finding to a panel of judges, which included members from the Copiague
Chamber of Commence, Walter G. O’Connell High School students, Copiague alumni, students from the Science and Technology Entry Program at SUNY Farmingdale, administrators and high school faculty members. In celebration of their scientific research, the school hosted a special ceremony to honor the students. Copiague Middle School Science Chairperson Dr. Daniel Leccese and Principal Andrew Lagnado distributed trophies, certificates and monetary awards to individuals and groups of students who exhibited distinguishable work on their science fair projects. Empowered Through Music Long Island teen celebrity and singer/song writer Meredith O’Connor delivered an important message about antibullying to seventh- and eighth-grade students at Edmund W. Miles Middle School in the Amityville Union Free School District on December 16th. During the 45-minute presentation, O’Connor shared her personal
testimony about how she overcame bullying and named the people in her life that helped her along the journey. She shared her inspiration behind some of her most popular songs and performed “The Game,” “Just the Thing” and “Being Me.” She welcomed questions from the students about her experiences with bullying, personal life and success
as a singer. Following the assembly, O’Connor signed autographs and took photos with the students. Based on her personal experiences, O’Connor became an advocate for victims of bullying and an anti-bulling spokesperson for thousands of young people in their schools, taking questions and raising awareness about bullying.

Volunteers with special needs lent their helping hands at Camp Pa-QuaTuck on December 11th. AHRC workshop students checked off windowwashing, bathroom cleaning and general housekeeping duties from their to-do lists as they worked cheerfully for the good of the camp. Friday was AHRC’s second time working in tandem with the camp. Russell Smith, an instructor at AHRC, said the two organizations began working together via a suggestion from the camp’s Treasurer, Newt Homan, who works for Suffolk County Transportation, transporting the AHRC students. Many of the volunteers have a personal connection with the camp, looking back fondly to the days when they attended summer sessions. “My
