The Cemetery of Lost Souls is a grass roots organization that gears up each year to create an elaborate Haunted House on the founder’s property, located at 350 Broadway in Massapequa Park. E v e r y bit of money raised through their annual event (admission, donations, sponsorships, etc.) is given to a chosen charity. They have raised a lot of money over the years in donations alone and have donated to charities such as Autism Speaks, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Ronald McDonald House Charities and Long Island Cares. This year they will bring the community a new interactive experience with the second Lost Souls Walk-Thru haunt, new rooms, new scares and new thrills! The remaining events will run on October 25-26, 31 and November 1-2 from 7PM-11:30PM. The chosen charity for 2019 is Melissa’s Wish, a non-profit organization founded with the purpose of providing short term, non-medical financial aid in the form of a grant to caregivers who are assisting those afflicted with a serious illness, injury or end of life event. This homegrown haunt has been up and running for a few weeks so far this year and visitors have only good things to say! Below are some recent reviews:

Longevity in marriage is something to be celebrated. Couples who reach fiftieth and sixtieth wedding anniversaries often commemorate those anniversaries with big parties. But there are some around the world who would consider golden anniversary celebrants to still be newlyweds. In December 2015, Karam Chand, 110, and his wife, Kartari Chand, 103, from Bradford, West Yorkshire (originally from India), celebrated their 90th wedding anniversary, becoming the world’s longest-betrothed couple. In America, John and Ann Betar, ages 104 and 100, respectively, have been married 83 years as of 2016. The couple eloped in 1932. They have been named one of America’s longest-married couples by the Worldwide Marriage Encounter.

Two Amityville Memorial High School athletic teams combined to raise nearly $1,000 for breast cancer research and to support people battling the disease. October is recognized nationally as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The girls varsity soccer team hosted its annual Kicks for Cancer Game on Oct. 2. Players baked together and then sold their goods during the Warriors’ contest against Southampton High School, raising about $700. Amityville head coach Angela Steiger said that Kicks for Cancer is an initiative spearheaded by Hauppauge High School, and teams from all over

Suffolk County participate and donate to the cause. Proceeds benefit several organizations dedicated to cancer research and providing comfort for patients. On Oct. 11, the girls volleyball team held its Dig Pink game. Players from the varsity and junior varsity squads wore special pink shirts for their respective matches against Sayville High School. The court was also outlined in pink tape and pink streamers were hung throughout the gym. To raise money, the girls sold Dig Pink T-shirts and baked goods, generating about $300. The funds were donated to Pink S.H.O.E.S., an Amityville-based charity
