Eagle Honoree Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer recently joined with Special Assistant Terence McSweeney at a Court of Honor Ceremony to congratulate Anthony J. Armanuse, on becoming an Eagle Scout. The Eagle Scout is the highest achievable rank in the Boy Scout Organization. For his Eagle

Scout project, Anthony, of Troop 1634, organized a blood drive with the New York Blood Center. Since blood is chronically in short supply, Anthony was able to get more than 45 pints of blood donated. Supervisor Shaffer congratulated Anthony on his achievement and wished him the best of luck with his future endeavors.

countless ways in which they can be arranged, manipulated, stylized to convey the precise meaning the author intends. And with that, is there ever really complete precision? Once the text is shared with the masses, the words take on a life of their own, open to new interpretations by an endless array of readers. Such is the beauty of the art. Inspiration is everywhere, if you choose to be open to it. The more you observe, and experience, the more stories you will discover waiting to be “We write to taste life twice, in the moment and in told. While I can’t say I am ever consciously taking mental notes, I suppose the comings and goings of others do find their way into my writings from time to time. There is a quote I’ve come across that I believe speaks to the art of writing quite accurately:

Just as photographs capture the visual of a moment for posterity, words capture the pure essence behind it. They exist separately, and are at once complementary. Perhaps that is the source of my fascination with both. To be able to elicit an emotion whether positive, negative or somewhere in between - is always the ultimate goal. To achieve that is the greatest sign of success for anyone in the arts. The process to reach that level is a never-ending one, to be continuously tweaked and modified in the quest for perfection, for meaning. May we all find it someday.

Rocking the Bandshell

“I couldn’t be prouder of the boys in The Brothers Band,” said Jessica Gallone, owner of RNRU. “They’ve put in many rehearsal hours in preparation for this performance. These boys have been students of RNRU since they were as young as seven years old! They have grown as musicians, entertainers and now young men. They really showed everyone what they could do tonight. Knowing that they love what they do up there, makes us feel that we are doing the right thing at RNRU,” she continued. RNRU is a music school that teaches children and

adults of all abilities. It supports inclusionary participation within their performance groups. Children and people of all abilities perform together on the same stage; with each child performing in one, or more, bands. RNRU supports a positive social atmosphere for children, and their families. The shoreline of Long Island’s North Fork recently got a cleanup, thanks in part to the efforts of the Cutchogue, Greenport and Love Lane Mattituck offices of Daniel Gale Sotheby’s International Realty, one of the nation’s leading realtors. The Daniel Gale Sotheby’s team, partnering with Cornell Cooperative Extension, combed the

art, in this case, whale sculptures fashioned from the beach debris. The resulting whale sculptures will be auctioned off at the Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Taste + Tour Fundraiser on August 18th, and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Cornell Cooperative Extension. For the time being, the whales are on display in the Daniel Gale Sotheby’s International Realty North Fork offices’ window this summer. Street Corner Renamed installed as the permanent Pastor of Amityville Gospel Tabernacle. In 1971, Walker’s brotherin-law William Johnson spearheaded the construction of a new building that would later be incorporated as Amityville Full Gospel Tabernacle. After 37 years of ministry, Walker was elevated to the office of Bishop and was consecrated on March 28, 1998. His influence was extended to many churches locally, across the country, and internationally. According to those close to him, he lived a life of integrity and was known as a “powerful man of God,” who was humble but fearless and whose passion was always to reach the lost and stand in the gap as a mighty intercessor. At the April 12th, Babylon Town Board Meeting, the Town Council passed Resolution No. 319, authorizing the

ceremonious changing of the name of the corner of Brefni Street and Geraldine Avenue in Amityville to “Bishop Reverend William Howard Walker, Sr. Corner.” In late June, dozens of friends, family, and members of the congregation joined together at this street corner to celebrate Bishop Walker’s life as the new street sign was unveiled.

Babylon Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer recently joined with Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez and Councilwoman Jackie Gordon at a ceremonial street renaming ceremony in honor of the late Bishop Reverend William Howard Walker, Sr. Bishop Walker was the founder of the Amityville Full Gospel Tabernacle, where he served as the Bishop and Overseer up until his death in 2008. Walker was born to the late Henry and Ruth Walker in Corona, New York on April 25th, 1930. After graduating from Jamaica High School in 1947, he enlisted and served in the United States Air Force and received an honorable discharge in 1952 as a Sergeant. In 1957, Walker attended and graduated from Bethel Bible Institute, and four years later, under the direction of Bishop Roderick R. Caesar, he was

Celebrity Golf Classic In attendance was Matthew Degori, a teen who has a rare disorder called Lowe Syndrome. He was granted a wish to visit Disney World in 2006. His mother publicly thanked the Foundation and said she loves being a part of the MLF family. “It is all about making the wish kids happy. That is the ultimate goal,” remarked Marty Lyons. “I am so pleased and proud to see so many golfers and individuals come out to support this great cause.” The Celebrity Golf Classic attracted over 400 golfers and supporters. Former NY Jets football

stars Kenny Schroy (MLF co-founder), John Schmitt, Mike Stromberg, Greg Buttle and Erik Coleman attended the event. Also in attendance were Bob Wischusen, radio voice of the NY Jets, and “The Late Show with David Letterman” announcer, Alan Kalter. This year’s Man of the Year Honoree, Guy DelGrande, CEO of Tekmark Global Solutions, was recognized for his many years of dedication to the Foundation. He delivered an impactful speech at the dinner reception. Former wish recipient

and current MLF volunteer, Kelly Greenfield, gave an emotional remembrance of her early years and the lasting impression that Marty and the Foundation made on her life. Kelly’s wish was to visit Disney and her grandparents in Florida in 1987. The Marty Lyons Foundation is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization founded by Marty Lyons, a former NFL defensive lineman for the New York Jets and member of the legendary “New York Sack Exchange.” Marty Lyon’s determination led to the establishment of the Foundation after

experiencing three lifealtering events in March of 1982. These events forced him to “see the frailty, unfairness and the wonder of life.” With the encouragement of his family and friends, he formed The Marty Lyons Foundation in December of 1982. Since that time the organization has worked to keep hope alive in the hearts of thousands of children and provide support to their families. As a wish granting organization, the Marty Lyons Foundation is unique in that it will consider granting a second wish to a deserving child

who may need the hope and inspiration to face the battle of their lives for the second time around. Since it was established, MLF has granted over 7,300 wishes that have brightened the lives of countless children. Amity Eagle Scout Suffolk County Legislature Presiding Officer DuWayne Gregory was on hand to congratulate and present a proclamation to Amityville resident Joseph LaManna at his Eagle Scout award ceremony, held Saturday, July 15th at the Amityville Fire Department. Joseph is a member of Boy Scout Troop 690, based in Seaford. Eagle Scout is the highest

rank in the Boy Scouts of America scouting program. With this achievement, Joseph is among the small percentage of young men in the Boy Scouts of America who have reached this prestigious level. Since the inception of the Eagle Scout award in 1912, only about two percent of eligible Scouts have earned this honor. For his Eagle Scout project, Joseph designed

and constructed an insect hotel to be placed in the garden of Homecoming Farm, located at the Sisters of Saint Dominic assisted living home in North Amityville. The insect hotel provides a home for bugs such as wild bees, spiders, and ladybugs in order to avoid pesticides and keep the farm and its crops organic.
