This summer Babylon Citizens Council on the Arts (BACCA), is featuring two Art Classes for children. Classes will be held at the Babylon Town Hall Annex Building, Room 15, 281 Phelps Lane in North Babylon. Mural Painting is a 5-week course for children 9 to 12 years of age. Each week students will learn to paint murals with subjects such as Marine, Ocean, Rainforests and Wild Safari. Materials to be used are collage, painting, drawing and mixed media. The instructor is Eun Soo Oh who has been teaching Children’s Art classes at BACCA. Classes take place on Fridays, July 14th, 21st, 28th, August 4th and 11th from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. The cost per child is $65 and it includes all art supplies. 3-D Clay – Love or Nature

The 238 third-graders at Northwest Elementary School in the Amityville Union Free School District completed another step in their educational journeys when they were recognized for their achievements at the moving up ceremony on June 21st. Principal Kathleen Hyland thanked her ﬁrst set of graduates for welcoming her with open arms and smiling faces to the school back in September. She reminded them that “what’s worth learning is worth working for.” Superintendent Dr. Mary T. Kelly wished the

students luck as they head to Park Avenue Memorial Elementary School for fourth grade. She encouraged them to continue reading over the summer and said the public library has a lot of good books available. The students performed “We are the World” and “We’re all in this Together” under the direction of music teacher Roxanne Tannenbaum. Following a video in which students shared their memories of Northwest, teachers from each class announced their graduates and handed out completion certiﬁcates.

The End. {Part I} This past 4th of July weekend, my friend and I decided to take a road trip out to Montauk Point. Having recently realized that we had never been to this summer hotspot during the actual summer months, a busy holiday weekend seemed like the ideal time to go. Armed with a handful of late 90’s teen pop CDs and my trusty iPhone navigation system, we headed out. Of course, Long Island trafﬁc is a force to be reckoned with on any normal day; add to it a two-lane road with speed limits ranging from 55 to 25 mph, throw in a few unfamiliar tourist types - and you have yourself a solid two-hour journey to contend with, at least. At one point, as trafﬁc

crept to a complete standstill, my dear Siri piped up and suggested an “alternate” route, one that would allegedly save 25 minutes from the journey. Not having had the best of luck in the past with these detours, I was initially hesitant. But, looking ahead at the long line of vehicles, I figured, what was the harm. Approximately 45 minutes later, and two side trips through the residential roads of Bridgehampton, and then East Hampton, we emerged back on Montauk Highway, back in the same line of traffic. So much for that. After (finally) arriving at the famous Lobster Roll luncheonette, we were met with the expected hour-long

wait, somewhat alleviated by spending time taking pictures in front of the original sign and marveling at some of the patrons attempting to navigate the pebble-ﬁlled parking lot in high heels. The food was, as always, worth the wait - and we promptly decided that dinner would most likely not be necessary, as we couldn’t imagine eating another thing for at least another three days or so. We ﬁnished up and headed on the next leg of our journey, the famous lighthouse, the self-proclaimed “End of the World.” Coming next week: The End. {Part II}
