Little Flower Children and Family Services of New York www.littleﬂowerny.org

Little Flower Children and Family Services of New York (Little Flower) is a human services non-profit organization that transforms caring into action to deliver services, programs and direction to improve the lives of children and families in crisis and people with developmental disabilities across New York City and Long Island. They have been helping others for 93 years! Little Flower was founded in 1929 by Catholic Priest Monsignor Bernard Quinn, who was looking for a haven for the youth of his parish in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, that were excluded from programs and services at the time. He opened a summer camp in Wading River that would eventually transition to a year-round residential treatment facility serving thousands of children, families and individuals with developmental disabilities. Little Flower has proudly adapted to address the unmet needs of those in their community by continuing to develop new programs and services. Their corporate headquarters and Suffolk County campus is still located in Wading River, however they also have a NYC campus, which is their flagship office in Brooklyn, along with ten residences across Queens and Long Island for individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities.

they partner with local businesses and organizations to transform caring into action to address the lasting effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the people and communities that their organization serves. The coalition will help fund critical services and offer events and resources directly in the communities served by Little Flower. Current members of the coalition include Amcor, Dime Community Bank, Fluent, Inc., Northwell Health and Tradeweb. “During the pandemic, Little Flower continued to operate without disruption to ensure the safety and well-being of hundreds of children in foster care, youth in residential treatment care, and adults with developmental disabilities. The Caring Acts Coalition will provide much needed support to those served by Little Flower, their families, our staff, and the local community,” shared Corinne Hammons, Little Flower’s President & CEO. In 2019, Little Flower expanded to welcome St. Johns’ Residence for Boys as an afﬁliate partner. Together with their dedicated volunteers, foster parent network, family care providers and other partners and supporters, Little Flower’s 600+ essential staff members provide foster boarding home care, residential treatment care, wrap around services for youth aging out of foster care, youth leadership development, adoption services, programs and services for individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities, along with medical and mental health services and coordination. Kim Poulos Lieberz, founder and CEO of KGI Design Group, a womanowned design and marketing agency located in Farmingdale, NY, is being honored as the American Cancer Society’s Corporate Honoree at the 3rd Annual Red, White, and Blue Summer Bash on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at The Crescent Beach Club in Bayville, New York. This fundraising event hosts professional and philanthropic leaders across a variety of ages and industries to support the American Cancer Society’s mission and goals of eliminating cancer as a significant health problem. Along with Humanitarian Honoree Angela Calvo, Kim is being honored for her dedication to supporting the American Cancer Society over many years. Since

2015, Kim and her team at KGI have provided probono design and branding services for multiple ACS distinguished events each year, including the Allan Shedlin Memorial Golf Classic, NYC United Against Cancer, Wine & Spirits Industry’s Gala, Financial Services Cares Gala, and Taste of Hope NYC. In addition to the American Cancer Society, Kim supports other notfor-profit organizations, such as the New Jersey Rett Syndrome Association, the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, and Angels For Warriors. She is also a co-founder and board member of DesignGivers. org, a 501c3 created during the COVID-19 pandemic, which supports the pressing needs and crises facing our community while providing donors virtual interior design consultations.

With the passage of Bouy’s Law we are making this a legal requirement so that more informed decisions can be made and potential tragedies averted.” All for the love of a dog… In 2013, Mary Kate Tischler and her late husband Jimmy took their beloved 3 year old Yellow Labrador Retriever, Bouy, to have routine knee surgery after which he was prescribed a painkiller to aid his recovery. Unbeknownst the Tischlers, the drug was known to have serious side-effects on some dogs and because they had not been given any prior warning from the veterinarian, they began to administer the drug as per his instructions. As a result, Bouy began to suffer acute kidney failure and was eventually put to sleep. Sadly, this tragedy, like many others affecting pet-owners across New York State, might have been avoided had there been a requirement to establish informed consent for prescribed medications. “From the moment when Buoy’s tragic fate became clear to us, Jimmy and I began efforts to ensure that Buoy’s short life would have meaning,” said Mary Kate. “The most important thing to us was to raise awareness about the lack of required warnings and to attempt to ensure that no other pet would suffer the way that Buoy did. And, when Jimmy himself suffered an untimely death six years ago, I continued to march on with our fight for the enactment of Buoy’s Law. Today, I am confident that Jimmy and Buoy are smiling down on me, very proud!” Now that Bouy’s Law has passed both the Senate and Assembly it is expected to be signed by Governor Hochul before the end of the year.

What makes this time different is the fact that its “same as” bill in the NYS Assembly (A.4978; Englebright) finally passed several days earlier after having been held up in committee during previous legislative sessions. Also known as “Bouy’s Law,” S.1289-B requires veterinarians to provide certain information to animal owners regarding the drugs dispensed to an animal. Amityville School District Announces Valedictorian And Salutatorian Of Class Of 2022

Amityville Union Free School District has announced Mikhail Ankudovych and Andielynn Llamas as valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, for the Class of 2022. Mikhail, nicknamed, Misha is an accomplished scholar and a leader at Amityville Memorial High School. The valedictorian is the President of the Amityville Memorial High School Class of 2022, President of the World Language Honor Society, MIKHAIL ANKUDOVYCH Tri-M Music Honor Society, and the Key Club of Kiwanis International. Misha is also the Editorin-Chief for the Amityville Echo student newspaper, a parliamentarian for the National Honor Society, a founder, and leader of Suffolk County Frontline Foods, an educator of Junior Achievement, and a member of the Distributive Education Club of America. He is also the section leader for Amityville Memorial High School’s Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra. ANDIELYNN LLAMAS Outside of school, Misha has worked as a host at the Park Avenue Grill. He will be attending Northeastern University and his anticipated major is Statistics with a concentration in Quantitative Finance. Misha boasted a cumulative GPA of 110.77. Andielynn is not only a dedicated athlete but a leader in her school clubs and activities as well. She competes in Lacrosse, Cross Country, and Indoor Track. The salutatorian has served as the President of the National Honor Society and the Yearbook Club, Vice President of Tri-M Music Honor Society, Secretary of World Language Honor Society, and is a section leader of the Violas in the Chamber Orchestra.
