Possible indications for this procedure are: 1 - Extensive crown breakdown caused by decay 2 - Abnormal enamel 3 - Certain genetic conditions 4 - Following root canal treatment 5 - As part of a space maintainer or habit breaking appliance. 6 - As a restoration for a tooth which has fractured. The tooth is prepared by reducing all surfaces of the natural crown and then placing a pre-formed stainless steel crown over it. The result is a metal crown which is the size of the original tooth but which will not break or be subject to fracture. When it is ready to be replaced, it does so exactly like a natural tooth. The roots get progressively shorter as the permanent teeth mature and the unrooted crown just falls out.

Are we done with the random, sudden snowstorms - you know, the ones originally forecast as a 50% chance of rain? Can we begin the planting process without fear of our blossoms being petrified by the next deep freeze? One can only hope. At least baseball is back. Both New York teams seem to have great potential for success this season, assuming everyone stays healthy and on the

roster for more than a month, of course. Being a lifelong Yankees fan, the biggest attraction is the thrill of witnessing Derek Jeter’s farewell season, a celebration of a true class act. Along with the start of spring sports comes the prospect of beach weather just beyond the horizon, outdoor concerts and long, lazy afternoons spent in the warmth of the sun. Well, in an ideal world, anyway. For those of us in the workforce, the weekends are the only time to truly capitalize – and doesn’t it

always seem like it rains on those days? Of course, there’s something to be said for tackling that “spring” cleaning we’ve been putting off for the last year or so. And that closet… I don’t know about you all, but the nicer weather motivates me to do some serious shopping – if only I had room to stuff one more hanger in between the massive wardrobe collection that has taken up permanent residence. Mold is typically a result of a moisture issue. Remove the moisture and you remove the mold. • Myth: Thicker carpeting will wear longer and better. • Fact: It is not the thickness or plushness of the carpeting but the density of the fibers that will be a telling clue of durability. This means a relatively thin carpet that is woven densely will likely last quite a while. • Myth: Carpeting can never be truly clean.

If the paint does not take, consult a professional to find a paint that’s likely to be a better fit. Expect this process to be one of trial and error. Plan for ornate cabinets to take a little longer. Painting projects will go faster when cabinets have flat fronts, but they can take considerably longer when cabinets are unique and more detailed. If your cabinets are ornate, then factor this extra time into your schedule. Remove the doors and hardware. When painting cabinets, it’s best to essentially disassemble them, removing the doors, handles, knobs, latches, and any additional hardware.

TOWN OF BABYLON HOME DOWN PAYMENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM FOR FIRST TIME HOMEBUYERS NOTICE OF APPLICATION INTAKE AND WAIT LIST As part of an ongoing commitment to promote the "American Dream" of home ownership a reality for first time homebuyers who wish to reside in the Town of Babylon Supervisor, Rich Schaffer announced that the Long Island Housing Partnership (LIHP), as agent for the Town of Babylon, will be making Applicant Intake Forms available for income eligible first-time homebuyers for down payment/closing cost assistance towards the purchase of a principal residence in the Town of Babylon. The Applicant Intake Form will be used to establish a two year applicant Wait List for the receipt of down payment assistance funds. Applicants will be placed on the wait list on a first come first serve basis. The Town of Babylon will provide eligible first time homebuyers with up to $14,000 towards down payment/closing costs towards the purchase of an eligible new or existing single-family home. The applicant must put a minimum of at least $3,000 towards down payment/ closing costs, the source of this cannot be a loan. The applicant must also be able to satisfy the mortgage lender’s minimum down payment requirements and be able to secure a mortgage. Homeowners are required to reside in the home for a minimum of 5 years or HUD will require a full repayment of the grant. The home must meet and pass Town of Babylon property standards and building code prior to purchase. Homes purchased within a flood zone must have flood insurance.

Eligibility Criteria: To qualify for the program, an applicant MUST meet all the following criteria: I. First Time Homeowner - as defined by HUD is a household that has not owned a home during the three year period immediately prior to the date of application for assistance. II. Purchased home must be occupied by the homeowner and be their principal residence. Family who attend a mortgage counseling session at LIHP and must be able to secure a mortgage and have an acceptable credit history. III. Family must have a minimum income of at least $30,000. IV. Income Eligible Family - meaning a prospective buyer must have a gross annual income not exceeding the income limits for the area as listed below with overtime and assets also taken into consideration.

Another First For St. Joseph St. Joseph Hospital’s Hyperbaric and Wound Healing Center has recently been reaccredited by the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS) - the first on Long Island to achieve this prestigious recognition. In 2011, St. Joseph Hospital became the first accredited Long Island wound care center. This latest honor was welcomed with great pride and excitement at the

Bethpage hospital. The three-year reaccreditation was announced following a rigorous, two-day onsite survey conducted by a team of physicians, nurses and technicians selected and trained by UHMS, which is the foremost accrediting body in the field of wound care and hyperbaric standards. Hyperbaric treatments greatly aid in the healing

of diabetic wounds, crush injuries, tissue damaged by radiation, progressive flesh eating, gangrene, and persistent or recurring bone infections. To celebrate March 14th as Pi Day, students in Melody Cesare’s class at Copiague Middle School determined the value of Pi by measuring both the circumference and diameter of plates and other round objects and applying the measurements to

the formula for the circumference of a circle. In addition to determining Pi’s value, the students used their brainpower to memorize and recite digits of the irrational number in Mrs. Cesare’s annual Pi Day competition.

This year, Aaron Eng placed first by reciting 89 digits of the mathematical constant. In second and third place were Catherine Rodriguez and Maximus Hamoy with 88 and 81 digits, respectively.

In honor of Women’s History Month, Babylon Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer and the Department of Human Services recently held the Town’s 25th Annual Celebration to recognize the extraordinary accomplishments of not only women in history but also those in our community. The theme for this year’s ceremony was “Celebrating Women of Character, Courage & Commitment.” Amityville Village Justice Judge Debra Urbano-DiSalvo served as the Mistress of Ceremonies for the event, where ten local women were honored for their service to the community. Among the honorees was Regina Calcaterra, Executive Director of the New York State Moreland Commission to Investigate

Public Corruption., who also delivered the event’s keynote address. Also in attendance for the celebration were Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, Presiding Officer of the Suffolk County Legislature DuWayne Gregory, Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez, Councilman Tom Donnelly (who serves as the chairperson for the Department of Human Services) and Councilwoman Jacqueline Gordon. Winter Sports Awards In early March, the Booster Club at Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School sponsored an awards dinner to honor the hard work and dedication of the studentathletes. The winter sports awards dinner recognized members of girls and boys bowling, wrestling, girls and boys winter track, cheerleading, the step team and girls and boys basketball. Throughout the night, coaches sang the praises of

the students’ commitment both on the field and in the classroom. Individual honors were given to the most valuable and improved players on the team, as well as a special coaches’ award presented to the student who went above and beyond for the entire team throughout the season. A Golden Eagle award was also given to a student on each team who had the highest cumulative grade point

average.
