Game Farm To Open On April 12th, the Long Island Game Farm — Wildlife Park & Children’s Zoo will be opening for its 45th season of providing Long Island students and families with a wide array of animals, education, and most of all — fun. From April to September, the Game Farm will be open on different days of the week for children and adults to explore. In celebration of its 45th season, the Game Farm will be offering coupons on its Facebook page and website for $4.50 off a regular ticket price valid for the opening weekend. From domestic to exotic animals, the Long Island Game Farm has so much to offer, all while providing an outdoor educational experience. Unlike many other zoos, children get a one-of-a-kind experience at the Game Farm, where they are encouraged to engage and feed countless

animals by petting, holding, and bottlefeeding. There are even special areas within the farm, including popular “Bambiland,” where children get up close and personal with deer; and “Old MacDonald’s Farm,” where children get a glimpse of life on an actual farm with pigs and chickens. For almost half a century, children have been leaving the Game Farm with acquired knowledge and a smile from ear to ear. Opening Day — Saturday, April 12th — coincides with the start of many Long Island schools’ spring break. The Game Farm will be open the entire break (ending on April 20) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Then, the Game Farm will reopen the next weekend, April 26th and 27th, from 10 a.m. to 5

QUESTION: Please explain how bleaching is used? ANSWER: Bleaching is one of the methods used to treat discolored or stained teeth. Bleaching is a safe, noninvasive, procedure that is done carefully by the dentist. Bleaching is not done to lighten superficial stains like those caused by coffee or tea. These can usually be removed with a professional cleaning. Bleaching is used for discoloration's that can't be lifted off, for stains that are inside, not on the tooth. These types of stains may, in some cases include: yellow or brown splotches caused by some tetracycline medications, or slight alterations in tooth color that occasionally occur as a result of root canal therapy. Although bleaching will lighten the stained teeth, it may not produce exactly the same shade as the surrounding teeth. Also, bleaching is not usually recommended for children's teeth.

Discovering The Passion To Do What You Love … This is the topic I selected for my upcoming presentation at the annual C.W. Post Honors Conference, a oneday schedule of seminars and panels, lectures and performances, all centered around a common theme, this year’s being Creative Engagement. When initially approached about the prospect of being a part of this Conference, one I had attended each year of my own tenure at C.W. Post, my first reaction was the usual mix of anxiety and sheer terror that comes when any form of public speaking is broached. And this, for an entire hour, in front of the best and the brightest my alma mater has to offer? I could feel the panic setting in, and the event was still months away.

Now, only one week remains ‘til the big day – and I’m still wrestling with what, exactly, I have to offer this group of impressionable young minds, all at the point in their lives where they are desperately trying to do exactly what my title suggests – discover that passion which will drive them into a particular field, hopefully to stay, for a long and fulfilling career. I guess a good starting point would be the initial inspiration for my topic, a letter I received from a local reader many months ago, in response to a column I had recently published, stating: “I wanted to let you know that indeed your words were read and inspired someone… as a humble writer myself, I know that is all we really want after all.” Creative Engagement at its best, no? Just the knowledge that my words had reached someone is some of the most positive feedback one can receive.

This is not to say that we all need constant pats on the back in order to feel valued and successful (although some certainly do). It simply reaffirms the notion that what we do for a living should be more than a job; it should reach far beyond the scope of merely being a means to an end, a way to pay the bills, etc. Above all else, it should engage YOU. If others find a similar connection through you, so much the better, an added bonus. I still don’t know exactly what I will say once I step to the head of the classroom a little over a week from now. But I suppose a good starting point is simply speaking openly and honestly and attempting to make a connection. And if I can reach even one person and help them discover his/her own passion in life, I will consider it a success.

Students at Saints Cyril and Methodius (SSCM) School in Deer Park were treated to a unique visit from award-winning author Beth Finke and her seeingeye dog, Whitney. Mrs. Finke is not only a winner

children’s book called Hanni and Beth: Safe and Sound, the writer shared stories of their adventures and described the importance of respecting a working dog and allowing him to focus on his job to the best of his ability. The enthusiastic students of SSCM each had questions burning in their minds and the only thing Mrs. Finke may have missed out on was not being able to enjoy seeing the number of hands that flew into the air when she announced it was time for some Q&A. One student wanted to know if she had written her book in braille and if the publisher then translated it. Mrs. Finke told the students all about the special talking computer she uses to read, write, and do her research on the internet. Another student asked about how a blind person gets a dog and Mrs. Finke told them all about wonderful nonprofit organizations, such as Guiding Eyes for the Blind in upstate New York and The Seeing Eye in New Jersey, where she’d been paired up with her former guide dog, Hanni. The most poignant question came a short way into the Q&A session from a small girl in her neatly pressed SSCM uniform, “What does it feel like to be blind?” Mrs. Finke’s response moved the group, young and old. “Wow, what a good question…I’m not sad about it, which you might think,” she’d said. Having battled juvenile diabetes and going blind by the age

Today, the question of whether to cremate or not is a real dilemma for many families. I have always written in these articles and explained to the families I have served that funeral arrangements should be discussed amongst the family long before an illness or death occurs. I have also told the families I have served that the funeral ceremony is primarily for the survivors not just for the deceased. It is my belief the deceased has paid their dues, are at peace, void of pain and it is the survivors that must carry on.

You do not have to purchase a grave which costs between $750 and $3,000, you can rent a casket instead of purchasing a casket, cremation fees are $355 as opposed to grave openings which range from $755 to $2,300. Many of you think cremation means the deceased is taken from the place o death directly to a crematory without any viewing or services. This type of service is called a “Direct Cremation” and is the least expensive type of funeral service available. However, you can have a cremation and still have a traditional funeral service with a wake and religious service the only difference being that instead of going to a cemetery for a burial you go to a crematory. It seems that older people don’t want to burden their family after they die and ask that the least expensive service be provided for them. But some of these folks need to understand that we, the children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters and friends may want to say goodbye and that a funeral service with a wake even if the casket is closed and a religious service although more expensive is not a burden but the beginning of the grieving process.
