QUESTION: Do dentures eliminate need for home care? ANSWER: Not at all. For both removable partial and complete dentures, plaque and food deposits must be cleaned from the denture each day. Rinse the denture with water to remove any loose debris, and then apply a denture-cleaning paste to a moist brush and clean all surfaces of the denture. Brush thoroughly, but not too hard. Overzealous brushing could damage plastic parts or bend metal clasps. Ask your dentist for advice about which products to use. Household cleaners and some toothpaste's should not be used because they may be too abrasive. Don't leave dentures with metal parts in denture-cleaning solutions longer than the recommended periods because the solution may tarnish metal parts. Never clean a denture in bleach because it could alter its color or corrode the metal parts.

Random Thoughts By: Jamie Lynn Ryan As if navigating the roads this winter wasn’t hazardous enough with the snow and ice and freezing rain, we now have a new obstacle to contend with – the vast wasteland of potholes cropping up on every corner and parkway ramp. Try attempting to slow down as your headlights catch a glimpse of the crater before you, just waiting to devour a tire or two. One more time – is it spring yet? At least spring training has finally arrived, and with it the not entirely unexpected announcement

from Yankee shortstop Derek Jeter that this season will be his final year playing baseball. A class act until the end, Jeter took to his Facebook page to write a heartfelt message of thanks and appreciation to his fans, his teammates, his family and friends. He will leave the Yankees at the top of his game, a surefire first-ballot Hall of Famer with a legacy the likes of which will not be seen again. Speaking of, remember all those long lost friends you thought you would never see again? Well, thanks to social networking, virtual reunions have become fairly

common. Sure, there’s plenty of useless material to navigate through; but if you learn to utilize these sites properly, the odds of reconnecting with someone are pretty likely. Everything in moderation, right? That’s the mentality you need to adopt for spring – moderation – with diet, exercise, everything. Those bathing suits that have been cropping up in every department store? They’re not going away anytime soon. Cablevision is seeking high school students to participate in the Smithsonian Channel’s Make Your Mark contest, an opportunity to win money for a school or community project. In honor of Black History Month, students can submit a video idea, or mark, that will leave a lasting impression on their community or school. The Smithsonian Channel project grows out of the documentary Breath of Freedom, which tells the story of AfricanAmerican soldiers who returned from World War II and made their mark by taking up the civil rights struggle in the United States.
