"Then he was a butterfly."

Observation - Shaan was learning the sound /c/, /k/ when he decided to make a caterpillar with the play dough. Once the wiggly caterpillar was ready, he brought two coconut shells from the nature corner and put it inside one half and covered it with the other, saying that this was his home. The caterpillar stayed inside the shell cocoon till he became bigger and then turned into a butterfly. Shaan stuck some pieces of coloured paper to make the beautiful butterfly. Analysis - Shaan used his prior knowledge about the metamorphosis of a caterpillar into a butterfly and applied it imaginatively to make the play dough caterpillar. Using the shells to make a cocoon showed his understanding of how putting two halves together would make it a closed shape and hence look like a cocoon. What next - Encourage Shaan to explore further and gather more information about creatures, their life cycles, their habitat using books and videos.
