NEXT STEPS FOR PACK PARENTS AND FAMILIES

WELCOME TO THE WOLFPACK! Our invitation to join the Pack is extended to your student and your entire family. We are here to support Pack families as you support your students through their transition from high school to college. We hope you find this resource helpful as you and your student navigate the journey from admission to attending NC State.

NEXT STEPS

Before Confirming Enrollment, Your Student Should: Complete Scholarship Applications Students can apply for scholarships through the PACK ASSIST portal at go.ncsu.edu/packassist. Students can apply for scholarships before confirming their enrollment. While priority consideration is given to students who apply for scholarships by February 15, the portal remains open through August 1.

Attend Admitted Student Events Newly admitted students and their families have the opportunity to preview what life as an NC State student could be like at a variety of admitted student events hosted throughout the spring. In-person and virtual options are available. Visit our admitted student event webpage at go.ncsu.edu/admitted-event for more details.

This is just the start of your student’s next steps! Our full New Student Checklist is available at go.ncsu.edu/checklist.

Complete the University Housing Application by June 1 Living on campus is a key part of the Wolfpack experience; that’s why students are required to live in University Housing their first year. Students should explore the various community living options available at go.ncsu.edu/applyhousing and submit their housing application through their MyPack portal as early as possible. There is no fee to submit a housing application.

Confirm Enrollment by May 1 Encourage your student to join the Pack by confirming their enrollment in their wolfPAW portal by May 1. Ensure all final materials are submitted to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Have your student regularly check their wolfPAW portal for any missing items.

LOOKING FORWARD

How to Continue Supporting Your Student After They’ve Confirmed: Share Calendars and Communication

Register for Student and Family Orientation by June 1

Set aside time during the summer to check in with your student about fall planning and connect regarding updates they’ve received from the university. Having a shared calendar for essential dates helps you and your student stay on track. Remind your student to check their university email regularly throughout the summer and use this time to have key conversations about expectations, anxieties and preparations.

While your student attends their college orientation, we invite parents and families to attend a concurrent orientation to learn more about campus life at NC State. There is no additional cost to attend and families can register when their student does. Learn more about New Student and Family Orientation at go.ncsu.edu/ new-student-orientation.

Sign up for Pack Family Regions

Nurture the Adult in Your Student

NC State’s Pack Family Regions program boasts an exciting networking opportunity for Wolfpack families to connect and build community with other NC State families in their region. This program offers a variety of year-round events, from Summer Send-Off events to welcoming new students to tailgate events, watch parties and even a regional round-up newsletter. Learn more about the Pack Family Regions program at go.ncsu.edu/family-regions and sign up at go.ncsu.edu/regions-signup.

Encourage students to practice adult responsibilities over the summer months. Remind them of the necessary life skills, such as laundry, cleaning and hygiene. Suggest maintaining a daily routine and creating a spending budget. These skills will help support a positive transition into college life and empower their next stage of independence.

Connect with Parents and Families Services Pack parents and families are encouraged to connect with the Office of Parents and Families Services (PFS) at families.ncsu.edu for helpful resources, special events and communications.

Prepare for Advising and Course Registration Your student will complete academic advising and course registration online as part of their transition to NC State. Advising typically occurs in May. Students are expected to complete advising by June 1. Course registration will happen in early June. Each college or program has its own process, so students should check the fall advising website at go.ncsu.edu/fall-advising for details based on their major.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR WOLFPACK FAMILIES

Understand the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

Attend Parents and Families Weekend The Office of Parents and Families Services is proud to invite families to campus to experience many of NC State’s time-honored traditions at Parents and Families Weekend. Save the date and learn more at go.ncsu.edu/parents-andfamilies.

FERPA limits NC State’s ability to share information from student records with anyone other than the student. Parents must create a Brickyard account to have access. Learn more about FERPA at go.ncsu.edu/ferpa-info.

Help Your Student Become Move-In Ready Encourage your student to connect with their roommate before moving in (to avoid bringing duplicate items) and carefully review the checklist of items to bring and the move-in instructions provided by University Housing at go.ncsu.edu/ housing-move-in. Lastly, discuss an exit strategy and plan for an early goodbye, but give yourself a buffer if your student wants a bit more time.

Prioritize Health and Wellness Ensure your student completes all immunizations and documentation for Campus Health. If needed, help them submit required documentation for accommodations with the Disability Resource Office. Help your student transfer prescriptions to the on-campus pharmacy and acquire 1–3 months of maintenance medications. Lastly, prepare a small first-aid kit with essential medications and supplies. For more information on Campus Health, visit go.ncsu.edu/see-campus-health.
