WELCOME MISS JORDON O’NEIL - HEADTEACHER WINGFIELD ACADEMY It is with genuine pride that I welcome you to Wingfield Academy - a place very close to my heart and to our community. As a former student, and having spent over 15 years working at Wingfield, I have witnessed firsthand our incredible journey - from overcoming challenges to becoming one of the top-performing schools in Rotherham and nationally. Wingfield is more than just a school; it’s a strong, caring, and ambitious community where every child is supported to thrive. Our most recent Ofsted report captured perfectly who we are, recognising that students “are happy and enjoy attending this vibrant school.” Thanks to the hard work of our dedicated staff and the exemplary attitude of our young people, our student numbers are the highest they’ve ever been. More families than ever - including many from beyond our catchment area are choosing Wingfield as their first choice. At the heart of everything we do is our mission: child-centred and progress-focused. Every decision we make is guided by what is best for our students, and every member of staff is committed to helping them achieve their very best. Our vision is simple but powerful: to provide every student with a worldclass education. We set the bar high because we know our students are capable of extraordinary things. Wingfield students truly are the hardestworking students in Rotherham. They live and breathe our core values of Respect, Responsibility, and Resilience - not just in the classroom but in everything they do. They are learners, leaders, and role models - and their kindness, determination, and effort make us proud every day.
At Wingfield, we create a warm, welcoming environment where every child feels they belong, makes exceptional progress, and leaves us ready for the next stage of their journey. Our curriculum is ambitious and inspiring, designed to prepare students for life beyond the classroom. From engaging lessons and enrichment activities to trips, clubs, guest speakers, and work experience, Wingfield students enjoy a rich and memorable education that broadens horizons and builds lasting confidence. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about our academy. If you’d like to visit or find out more, please don’t hesitate to get in touch - we’d be delighted to welcome you. We look forward to working in true partnership with you as we continue to build a nurturing, thriving school community one where every child feels supported, inspired, and proud to belong.
“SUPPORTED, INSPIRED, AND PROUD TO BELONG.” 3

STUDENT SUPPORT & WELFARE We are a ‘listening school’ At Wingfield Academy we pride ourselves on creating relationships that exist based on mutual trust and respect. We aim to engender a sense of belonging and this was recognised during our most recent Ofsted Inspection in 2022 when care, guidance and support was deemed to be outstanding. We are particularly proud that positive relationships between staff and students was a strong feature of our latest report. Students play a pivotal role in supporting the welfare of the wider student population. Our thriving Wellbeing Ambassador Programme empowers students to support their peers by signposting them to appropriate sources of support, guidance and advice when needed.
Support students with special needs educations needs and disability (SEND) We wholeheartedly believe in creating an inclusive environment for all our students. Inclusion lies at the centre of everything we do at Wingfield Academy. Students with specific needs are integrated into mainstream classes and are provided with support on an individual basis or in a small group. Students with special talents and aptitudes are encouraged and challenged to develop at a pace appropriate to their ability. We strongly believe in working in partnership with parents and carers and we foster a close working relationship with all our primary school partners. WINGFIELD ACADEMY
HIGH EXPECTATIONS WINGFIELD ACADEMY HAS BUILT ITS SUCCESS UPON THE HIGHEST OF EXPECTATIONS. We expect all students to: • Make outstanding progress. • Make learning a priority. • Be respectful, responsible & resilient. • Be punctual and attend every day.
Student conduct & behaviour It is important when choosing Wingfield Academy that parents are fully supportive of our behaviour for learning policy. At this Academy, students are expected to demonstrate the highest standards of behaviour at all times. We believe that learning is our number one priority so low level disruption is not tolerated. Our system of behaviour consequences is designed to give students choices. Its principle role is to support learning by tackling and dealing with low level disruptive behaviour, i.e. behaviour that undermines the student’s own learning or that of others. If unchecked this sort of behaviour disrupts lessons and undermines the authority of the teacher. Students will have plenty of opportunity to earn rewards in every area of Academy life, inside and outside the classroom. From working and thinking hard, to showing resilience in overcoming challenges to showing kindness to others. The opportunities are endless for them to shine!
STUDENTS WILL HAVE PLENTY OF OPPORTUNITY TO EARN ACHIEVEMENT POINTS IN EVERY AREA OF ACADEMY LIFE.

Supporting Success at KS4 Throughout KS4, students are offered a wide range of opportunities to support them in achieving and exceeding their target grades across all subject areas. Our programme of support includes: • Period 6 lessons – compulsory sessions running from 3:00– 4:00pm at the end of the school day. • Subject specialist tuition – targeted support delivered by experienced subject teachers. • Dedicated Year 11 revision room – providing students with a focused environment in which to complete independent study and revision. • Saturday revision sessions – additional opportunities to prepare for GCSE examinations. • Holiday revision sessions – targeted support designed to address gaps in knowledge and understanding, informed by assessment and exam paper analysis. These opportunities are designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to succeed in their GCSE examinations. Our experience shows that students who consistently engage with the support available to them throughout KS4 are better prepared for their examinations and are able to make strong progress. High Expectations and Positive Conduct At Wingfield Academy, we have high expectations of all our students. We expect students to attend regularly, engage positively with their learning and demonstrate our values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience. We believe that a positive learning environment is built on a balance of clear expectations, consistent consequences and recognition of students who demonstrate excellent conduct and commitment to their learning. Students have many opportunities to earn merits across all areas of Academy life, both inside and outside the classroom. Merits can be awarded for outstanding effort, academic achievement, resilience in overcoming challenges, positive contributions to the Academy and acts of kindness towards others.
THE ACADEMY DOES NOT AUTHORISE HOLIDAYS IN TERM TIME. ANY HOLIDAYS TAKEN WILL BE CLASSED AS UNAUTHORISED ABSENCE FROM SCHOOL.
ATTENDANCE Great attendance is important for progress, wellbeing, social interaction and future career prospects. Our target for all students is a minimum of 97% attendance. All holidays should be taken out of term time and appointments should be scheduled for after 3pm where possible. We make first day contact when a student is absent and we conduct home visits to support students getting back into the academy.
Merits contribute to a range of short, medium and long-term rewards, recognising students both individually and, where appropriate, collectively. We want every student to have the opportunity to succeed, be recognised for their achievements and shine as a member of the Wingfield community. 7
