This quarter, Shechem Home cared for 26 children, comprising 6 boys and 20 girls, ages 3 to 16. The home also welcomed 5 newly rescued children. Meanwhile, 3 children were safely reunited with their families, while another 3 were transferred to a shelter for continued therapeutic care and family support.
What an amazing three days! From May 7 to 9, 2026, the children of Shechem Home joined “The Amazing Journey,” the Daily Vacation Bible School (DVBS) at Higher Ground Church of the Nazarene. With exciting Bible stories, worship, memory verses, games, and creative activities, the children traveled alongside Moses and the Israelites, discovering what it means to trust God, pray faithfully, stay strong, and keep going even when the journey gets tough. But this wasn’t just about learning Bible stories. It was a journey of faith, courage, and hope. The children learned, worshiped, and made wonderful memories along the way. Each activity gave them a chance to discover God’s love and see how His Word can guide them in their own lives. Every smile, every lesson, and every prayer became a beautiful part of their journey. They were reminded that no matter how challenging the road may be, God is always with them, guiding every step of the way. The journey continues, and with God, every step can be amazing!

This quarter, Shechem was blessed to welcome LoveWorks 2026 from Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU), NCM Global and Regional, and Danish interns through Viva Denmark and the Philippine Children’s Ministry Network. They came not only to serve, but also to listen, connect, and share love with the children through tutoring, arts and crafts, worship, games, and sharing God’s Word. The children enjoyed every moment, from showcasing their talents and creating artwork to working side by side with the volunteers, turning simple activities into meaningful memories. For many of the volunteers and interns, their time at Shechem became a deeply touching experience, reminding them of the strength and resilience of the children they met. We are deeply grateful for their time, prayers, talents, and love, helping our children feel seen, valued, and reminded that they are never alone.

RENEWED TOGETHER The Shechem team stepped away from the daily demands of work and gathered out of town for three days of fun, fellowship, and renewal. Surrounded by the calming seaside, the team enjoyed games, island hopping, and snorkeling, creating moments that brought everyone closer. Beyond the fun, the retreat gave the team time to reflect, recharge, and renew their commitment to Shechem’s mission of bringing safety, healing, restoration, and transformation to the children we serve. Through appreciation activities, TraumaInformed Care training, psychosocial support, and individual coaching, the team was reminded that caring for others begins with strengthening one another. Together, we continue to grow, serve with purpose, and remember that our work is ultimately a service to the Lord.

When 10-year-old Juls arrived at Shechem with her two younger half-siblings, adjusting to a new environment was not easy. She was quiet and shy, often sitting alone, but she remained a caring and protective older sister, helping her siblings with their daily needs and standing up for them when they were teased.

With consistent guidance, encouragement, and support from the houseparents and staff, Juls gradually came out of her shell. She began building friendships, joining group games, and actively participating in activities, especially dancing and sports. She also made steady progress in following house rules and achieving her monthly goals. Her growth was recognized when she received the “Most Improved” award for June, celebrating her determination and positive changes. Today, Juls is no longer the quiet girl who stayed in the corner. She is becoming a more confident and active child who embraces new friendships and experiences while continuing to care for her younger siblings. Her journey reminds us that with a nurturing environment, patient guidance, and opportunities to grow, children can discover their confidence and flourish.
