This quarter, the children of Shechem Home continued to experience spiritual growth and a strong sense of belonging through their regular participation at Higher Ground Church of the Nazarene. Every Sunday, they attended worship services, joined engaging Sunday school lessons, and took part in activities that encouraged learning, reflection, and fellowship. The children enthusiastically shared their praises and prayer requests, sang songs of worship, and participated in prayers and thanksgiving. When opportunities arose, they also learned to play musical instruments, discovering new skills and expressing their creativity.
The church community warmly embraced the children, celebrating their birthdays and recognizing their achievements, making each child feel valued and supported. Beginning in the last month of the quarter, all children, houseparents, and security personnel attended services together, strengthening their sense of unity. Through these meaningful activities and relationships, the children reported positive changes in their attitudes, growing confidence, and a deeper understanding of faith, hope, and the love of a caring community.

On January 27, 2026, Shechem Home conducted a capacity-building session on “Safe and Unsafe Touch for Children,” facilitated by the residential social worker. The activity aimed to help children understand the difference between safe and unsafe touch, using clear examples and discussing how each affects feelings and personal boundaries. An interactive session followed, where children identified safe and unsafe situations through images and explained their answers. They were also guided on where and how to seek help when needed. The session strengthened their understanding of body safety and personal boundaries, reinforcing that their bodies belong to them and their voices matter.
We pray for a new social worker to join the team who has a heart to serve the children and is equipped with compassion, wisdom, and dedication for this ministry.

Yan was 14 years old when she arrived at the center, quiet, withdrawn, and unsure of her new surroundings. In her early days, she often preferred to stay alone in a corner, rarely engaging with other children and speaking very little even with houseparents and social workers. Communication was limited, as she would often respond with silence or a faint smile, making it difficult for others to understand her needs and feelings.
Over time, with consistent care, patience, and a supportive environment, Yan gradually began to open up. She started interacting with peers, forming friendships, and becoming more comfortable with the adults around her. Her playful and affectionate side slowly began to shine through as she engaged more in daily activities and group routines.
She also showed steady and meaningful progress in following house rules, participating in activities, and meeting monthly goals set for her development. These small but important steps reflected her growing confidence and willingness to trust others. Her efforts were recognized through awards such as “Most Improved” and “Star of the Month,” which encouraged her further Yan’s journey reflects a beautiful transformation marked by resilience, healing, a sense of belonging, and positive personal growth within the home environment.
