Alumnae Through the Decades
Together with its founding Schools, Newcastle High School for Girls has over 300 years of experience teaching the young women of the North East.
During this time Church, Central and Newcastle High School have withstood some extraordinary challenges. War, pandemics, economic depression, strikes, nuclear threat and immense social change have all been met with the adaptability, courage and resilience that have characterised our schools.
We are immensely proud of our heritage and intelligent, fearless young women we have taught, who grasped the opportunities offered to them and played a vital part in the emancipation of women. This exhibition showcases some of these remarkable women, one representing each decade for each School.
The spirit and achievement of our alumnae are reflected in the resilient, confident young women are educating today.
