Northbrook Park District Board of Commissioners
The Park District Board of Commissioners is the legal governing authority for Park District business. Park District residents elect Commissioners to serve a four-year term. Board meetings are open to the public and are usually held on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7pm at the Joe Doud Administration Building.
Letter from the Executive Director
Dear Northbrook Park District residents,
2026 is an exciting year for the Northbrook Park District, as the renovation of the newly named Northbrook Community Center (formerly Leisure Center) will wrap up in time for summer.
This $12.1 million project, partially funded by a grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, will completely transform the facility, and make it more appealing and functional for users of all ages. Our staff has been hard at work on this project and we can’t wait to welcome you back to the renovated facility!
This is the time to make summer plans for you and your family, including enrolling children in our Summer Camp.
The Park District offers dozens of summer camp options from June through August including arts, theater, dance, chess, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, skateboarding, ice skating, hockey and golf.
We have half-day camps for ages 3 to 5 and full-day camps for ages 5 to 14. Many camps offer the option to attend one week at a time, which is perfect for families who need flexibility. We also have extended camp care, with morning and afternoon options.
Our special events this spring will include favorites like Brunch with the Bunny on April 11, MLB Pitch, Hit and Run on April 24, and Spring Tea on May 2. Make sure you check out our newest event, Dodgeball Duos Night, on March 14! You and your child can team up for some friendly dodgeball competition, and enjoy some pizza with new friends afterwards.
Spring also represents the chance to finally enjoy the outdoors, so make sure to visit our beautiful parks and make use of all the amenities they offer.
On behalf of all Park District staff, we wish you a great 2026!
Warmly,
Chris Leiner, Executive Director

Summer Camp FAQs
Do you have a Lunch Program?
Yes! Families have the option of ordering lunches for most camps through our lunch program provider. More information will be included in the Camp Parent Handbook.
What if the camp I wish to register for is full?
If the camp you want is full, we encourage you to place your child on a wait list (one per child per week/session). If space becomes available, wait list participants will be contacted via phone and email. Payment is required within 24 hours of this notification to confirm enrollment.
What if I need to transfer or cancel my registration?
Requests to transfer enrollment from one camp to another will be granted only if the desired camp has openings. Any difference in fees for the new enrollment will need to be paid at the time of transfer. Contact the Park District in advance to transfer or cancel your registration. Refunds are subject to an administrative fee of 10% of the program cost.
Who will be working with my camper this summer?
Camp staff members are CPR/AED certified and receive extensive Northbrook Park District training which covers safety, leadership, mandated reporting, behavior management, developmentally appropriate activities, diversity, learning through cooperative play, field trips, bussing, pool and sunscreen safety training. Many of our camp staff are returning or year-round team members.
How can I start a payment plan?
Payment plans can be arranged at time of online registration. All balances must be paid by the start of the program.
How can I request a scholarship?
Residents who meet the criteria can receive financial assistance toward recreation programs and memberships. Applicants only need to qualify once per calendar year. Contact Melanie Cohen at 847-291-2995 or mcohen@nbparks.org for an application form or with questions about the scholarship process.
How is residency determined?
Some Village of Northbrook residents are not residents of the Northbrook Park District. Non-residents are charged a slightly higher fee. Campers who attend Northbrook/Glenview School District 30 or West Northfield School District 31 and are considered non-residents by Northbrook Park District are eligible for resident rates for 2026 summer camp at respective school sites.
If you qualify for the resident rate and have already registered for a camp, call 847-291-2995 to adjust your payment.
How are camp groups formed?
Camp groups are formed by age, school and/or ability. Children in the same camp will have the opportunity to be with their friends in other groups throughout the day. Friendship requests are not available.
How do I indicate a need for NSSRA support?
Northbrook Park District partners with the Northern Suburban Special Recreation Association (NSSRA) to offer recreation programs and services to residents of all abilities. NSSRA support staff is available to work alongside program participants, assisting with special needs and behavior. Participants requesting support must check the ADA box on the registration form. You do not need a diagnosis to request support.

General Registration Information
Commitment to Quality
We want you to be happy with your recreation choices! If you’re not satisfied with a program or instructor, you may ask to repeat the class, transfer to another class or receive a refund. The Park District will try to resolve instructor and/or program issues to your satisfaction. If you are not satisfied, the full or prorated refund will be approved. Requests can be made at any Registration Office or by calling 847-291-2993.
Withdrawal & Transfer Requests
We understand that circumstances arise that may lead to a patron’s inability to participate in a class/program. Unless otherwise noted, a request for a transfer or refund can be made if:
• The request is submitted three business days prior to the start of a program.
• The instructor and participant agree the participant’s skill level is not appropriate.
• The class is canceled or rescheduled and participant cannot attend at the new time.
• The patron cannot participate due to illness or injury (doctor’s note may be required).
Refunds
All refunds are subject to an administrative fee of 10% of the program cost. Camps, workshops, before/after school care, golf course green fees, adult sports leagues, daily admissions, passes/punch cards, tickets to entertainment, special events and trips may have nonrefundable deposits and/or special restrictions. Refunds do not apply to program supplies/ materials purchased, gift certificates, food and contractual programs.
Program Cancellations
When people wait until the last minute to register, classes may be canceled, so register early to avoid disappointment. If a class is canceled due to low enrollment, those who signed up will be issued a full refund.
Residency
All Village of Northbrook residents are not residents of the Northbrook Park District. Non-residents are charged a slightly higher fee for programs. If you have questions about residency, call the main Registration Office at 847291-2993. Proof of residency may be required.
Health Conditions
Participants should notify the Park District at the time of registration about any medical condition that might require special attention by District staff. Information will remain confidential.
Code of Conduct
Participants are expected to exhibit appropriate behavior at all times in programs and facilities. That includes respect for all people, equipment and facilities and cooperative, positive participation. The staff will review rules with participants and may dismiss anyone whose behavior endangers safety or negatively affects a program or facility.
Are You Covered?
The Park District does not carry medical or accident insurance for program participants; the cost would make program fees prohibitive. Review your personal health insurance plan to be sure you and your family have proper coverage. The absence of coverage does not make the Park District automatically responsible for payment of medical expenses. In addition, certain high risk activities require a waiver/release form, which must be signed before the first class.
Scholarship Requests
Because we believe every Park District resident should have the opportunity to participate in our offerings, we will attempt to provide financial assistance to those faced with financial hardship. Youth Services of Glenview/Northbrook assists the District with the administration of our scholarship program. Residents who meet the criteria can receive financial assistance towards recreation programs and memberships. Applicants only need to qualify once per calendar year and application forms are available by contacting Melanie Cohen at mcohen@nbparks.org or 847-291-2995.
Inclusion
We encourage participation by everyone and provide reasonable accommodations in accordance with ADA standards. If you require program assistance for special needs, check the box on the Registration Form to be contacted by the District’s NSSRA Inclusion Liaison. Questions? Call 847291-2995.
ADA Compliance
The Northbrook Park District provides recreation opportunities for all residents and encourages participation by everyone. Programs and services are subject to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), as well as all applicable laws regarding nondiscrimination. We are happy to make reasonable modifications to assist anyone with special needs who wants to participate in a program. Please contact the District in advance of a program to discuss any necessary accommodation or if you need Park District materials in a special format such as Braille, large print or audio cassette.
The Park District provides a grievance process for resolution of any ADA complaint alleging discrimination on the basis of a disability. If you have any concerns about Park District ADA compliance, contact Eileen Loftus, Director of Recreation, c/o Northbrook Park District, 545 Academy Drive, Northbrook, Illinois, 60062, phone 847-291-2960 or email eloftus@ nbparks.org. The Park District is reviewing its programs and practices in regard to ADA requirements and invites comments from the public.

IMPROVING COMMUNITY SPACES
The Northbrook Park District strives to take care of what we have. In 2026, several exciting projects will be taking place to provide improved spaces for connection, community, nature and play. All three of these projects have received important financial support from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR). Follow our progress at nbparks.org/projects
Northbrook Community Center
The Leisure Center will reopen as Northbrook Community Center in time for summer 2026. This renovation project will provide impactful improvements for a wide variety of programs for infants through seniors encompassing the arts, recreation, early childhood and wellness — allowing people to gather together as a community to learn, grow and connect. This project is partially funded by a $2.8M PARC Grant from IDNR.
West Park Renovation
The renovation of West Park, a 24-acre community park, includes a new playground with increased accessibility and synthetic turf safety surface, a new picnic shelter, expanded trails, a new multi-sport court and so much more! Located behind the Northbrook Sports Center off Pfingsten Road, these new and renovated features, partially supported by a $600,000 IDNR OSLAD Grant, will provide an enhanced place to play for the entire community.
Techny Prairie Park and Fields Path Renovation
Techny Prairie Park and Fields is home to more than two miles of pathways in one of the most picturesque parts of town. In 2026, the pathway around the basin area will be replaced to offer an improved experience for walkers, runners and bicyclists of all ages. This project is partially funded by an IDNR Bike Path Grant. In addition, a $600,000 OSLAD Grant was awarded in January to support a variety of additional park renovations at TPPF. Visit nbparks.org/projects for updates.
