Hello everyone! The Senior Center has been open at Village Green Center for almost two months and we have had so many heartwarming moments. My favorite so far was watching Clara Mueller ride her motorized ADA scooter (from her home, no less) into the Knitting and Crocheting group on a Wednesday morning to the hearty applause from the rest of the group. Whether you play bridge, canasta, mah jongg or poker, you are missed! We are closely following state and federal guidelines for when table and card games can be held again. Other "Drop-Ins" have returned to the Senior Center. The Crafty Ladies, Current Events, Knitting and Crocheting, Art Studio and Humanities have returned with preregistration required. Humanities is now a hybrid program with people participating in-person and from home via Zoom. There’s room for more in each group if you’re interested. I have been receiving a lot of positive feedback from participants saying they enjoy being back and feel comfortable at our new location. Eva Sebestyen joined me in person at Village Green to watch the Leslie Goddard virtual program, Tea for Three. She wanted to see the show but had no computer. It gave me the idea that we could do this for other events too. We created hybrid programs for fall so you can choose either to attend in-person or virtually through Zoom. There are a few people to thank for their kind thoughtfulness over the last few months. Gail Hoffman knitted me a beautiful plum-colored phone carrier for Walkie Talkies on Wednesdays and Fridays. At our Senior Advisory meeting Lenore Bernstein brought me delicious homemade brownies and mandel bread besides recording the minutes for the group. Maddie Fern brought a large bag of three-cereal, (that means they're healthy!) homemade cookies to share with coworkers. Hedy Margolin gave me a box of herbal tea after we discovered a mutual love of teas. Liz Reidel shares animal rescue and cultural videos with me, Marv Klein continues to entertain me by phone with jokes and Marcia Walanka shares her excellent sense of humor with emails. Thank you all for being so nice! I hope you find some enticing programs and activities within this issue that inspire you to connect with us. Feel free to reach out with questions or suggestions by email at lwassinger@nbparks.org or call 847-897-6162. I hope to hear from you. See you soon!
