Academics As a college preparatory high school, the curriculum of Nazareth Academy is geared to prepare all students for college. Courses are offered at college prep, honors and Advanced Placement levels. Freshmen typically begin with algebra, English, physics, theology, world history, world language, and optional fine arts electives. Proficiency exams allow students who are accelerated in mathematics or language to begin at the sophomore or junior level in those classes.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT
Advanced Placement (AP) is a specific designation of the College Board given to college-level courses offered to high school students. AP grades are weighted. Based on their performance on the College Board AP Examinations, students can earn college credit and advanced placement in college courses. Students at Nazareth Academy successfully pass AP exams in each academic discipline. In 2026, 204 students took 355 AP exams across 16 different subjects and 89% scored a 3 or higher.
College Prep
All of Nazareth Academy’s courses in English, mathematics, science, social studies and world languages, as well as courses in fine and practical arts, are college preparatory. Students who satisfy Nazareth Academy’s graduation requirements are well prepared for success at the four-year college of their choice.
HONORS
Honors level courses are offered in English, mathematics, science, social studies and world languages. Qualified students may pursue honors courses in any or all disciplines. Freshman students who score sufficiently high on the HSPT entrance exam and whose 7th and 8th grade report cards indicate high achievement will be invited into Honors courses. Honors grades are weighted.
STEM LAB
Nazareth’s state of the art STEM Lab was designed and built with a physics, engineering, and robotics focus. The STEM Lab houses physics and engineering classes and is available after school for use by our Science & Engineering Club and STEAM Club.
BLOCK SCHEDULE
Students follow a block schedule in which they attend four 80-minute classes on Blue Days and their other four 80-minute classes on White Days. With the exception of semester-long electives, courses run for the full academic year. The block day includes homeroom, a 30-minute activity period and a 25-minute lunch.

Nazareth Academy is pleased to offer a pathway to the Illinois State Seal of Biliteracy, which honors high school seniors who demonstrate a high level of proficiency in one or more languages, in addition to English. Two awards will be presented to graduating seniors: the Seal of Biliteracy and the Commendation toward Biliteracy. In 2026, 21 students earned the Seal and 9 students earned the Commendation.

Faith & Ministry Integrating Gospel values into the Nazareth Academy curriculum is an essential aspect of the Nazareth high school experience. Each student is provided with the opportunities necessary to become a mature Christian person. In addition to the curriculum, liturgical and personal prayer, retreat participation and service opportunities all contribute to the continued development of one’s faith.

The Campus Ministry Department engages students in the areas of service, retreats and prayer. Throughout the school year students plan, conduct and generously support Thanksgiving, Christmas and Lenten collections. Students may also participate in a variety of service opportunities. Day retreats are offered at the freshman and sophomore level. Juniors are required to attend an overnight retreat at LaSalle Manor Christian Brothers Retreat Center in Plano, IL. Seniors may attend the nationally recognized Kairos Retreat. All-school liturgies provide celebrations of Holy Days of Obligation, as well as major school events throughout the year. Students assist with planning and participate in all Masses and prayer experiences. During their junior year, students may also choose to be trained as Eucharistic Ministers.

Technology At Nazareth, we understand that the role of technology in education means more than which devices we have; technology is a key component in the vitality of our classrooms and fulfillment of our mission. Device management
Prior to the start of freshman year, student iPads are onboarded to Jamf School, our mobile device management solution. Through Jamf School, our Technology Team can push required applications and provide technical assistance. Teachers utilize Jamf School during class to limit access to unnecessary applications and device functionality, while encouraging focus.
Google Apps for Education
Each student receives a nazarethacademy.com Google account and has access to Gmail, Google Classroom, Google Drive and Google Calendar as well as all other free Google apps. Student accounts are granted unlimited storage capacity for all four years.
1:1 i Pads
All students use iPads for most of their courses. Students provide their own iPad and accessories. We suggest an iPad, iPad Air or iPad Pro with a minimum of 128 GB storage. A keyboard and stylus or Apple pencil are required. Students are responsible for iPad care and maintenance. The use of iPads provides enhanced opportunities for learning, while the savings in book costs more than make up for the purchase of the device over four years. When a student begins at Nazareth, he or she receives access to the school’s secure and protected WiFi network.
Technology Centers
Students have additional access to devices during the school day. The Media Center offers Mac laptops available for coursework, digital research and communication. The Tutoring Center and the Media Center offer locations for students to print school-related files. Additionally, the Media Center offers a state-of-the-art audio visual setup for classes, meetings and events. The Computer Science classroom has 30 MacBook Air laptops for the instruction of computer programming. The STEM Lab incorporates the use of Mac minis and numerous types of digital and 3D printing devices.
Technology in the Classroom
Classrooms contain a variety of technological resources including projectors, AppleTVs and subject-specific devices. Students receive access to the New York Times digital platform, the Adobe Suite and Canva Pro tools. Faculty members have the flexibility
and resources to access applications which best encourage collaboration, innovation and creativity. Examples include: Notability, Nearpod, Classkick, Catholic Bible app, Logo Creator, Floorplanner, Socrative, Pixlr, and Desmos Graphing Calculator.
PlusPortals for Students and Parents
Through a web browser or its dedicated mobile app, PlusPortals provides student and parent access to updated personalized information, including class schedule, course pages, syllabi and grade reports.

Nazareth maintains a clear and consistent policy regarding the school’s expectations for Digital Citizenship and provides each student with a Responsible Use Policy.

A competitive entrance exam (HSPT) is administered to eighth grade students on Saturday, December 5, 2026. Nazareth accepts only those students capable of succeeding in its college preparatory curriculum, giving priority to those who test at Nazareth. With an enrollment of 760 students, a high level of student-teacher interaction is ensured.

Nazareth is proud to honor the many alumni who choose to send their own children to Nazareth with a Legacy Scholarship. A $1,000 annual award will be granted to each student of a mother and/or father who graduated from Nazareth Academy. The award is renewable annually.
ACADEMIC AND LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIPS
CSJ Scholarships are awarded to the top test takers on the Nazareth Entrance Exam. Recipients are awarded a $24,000, $18,000 or $10,000 scholarship.
NEW INCREASED AMOUNTS!!!* Students who score 97-99 will receive *$6,000 annually.
Students who score 94-96 will receive *$4,500 annually.

Unity Scholarships are awarded annually to incoming freshmen who exhibit strong scholarship, service and leadership during their years of elementary education. 25 recipients are awarded a *$2,500 renewable scholarship toward tuition. Unity applications are distributed on the day of the Nazareth Entrance Exam.
Nazareth Academy is set on over 20 acres of land. Academic buildings, a beautiful theatre, Alexine Chapel and multiple athletic venues are some of the highlights. Campus parking is available to all senior students and to junior students as space permits. Recent campus enhancements include the construction of a STEM Lab and the renovation of our existing R.J. Sanders Field in 2023. The 26-27 school year includes the reimaging of the Oremus Media Center into a cutting edge learning environment designed for today’s students with emphasis on collaboration, creativity and technology.
DRESS CODE
Nazareth Academy believes school uniforms celebrate our school identity and unity. Girls wear the uniform skirt with tights or pants and the uniform polo shirt. Boys wear pants with the uniform polo shirt. Pants must be full length dress or khaki-style and solid black, navy or tan in color. A uniform pullover is optional. Solid black dress or athletic shoes and solid color socks are also worn. Neat grooming and conservative haircuts are an expectation.
PARENT PLEDGE PROGRAM
The Parent Pledge Program, where you invest above and beyond tuition to help meet the actual costs of educating your child, represents a crucial way we work together to meet our fiscal goals. The purpose of this program is straightforward: to fully bridge the gap between the actual cost of educating your daughter or son and tuition. Parents are invited to participate in a variety of ways, regardless of financial circumstances. This includes donations, stock gifts, matching cash donations from companies, school event tickets and sponsorships.
Shadow Program The Nazareth Academy Shadow Program is a wonderful experience. Spend one day at Nazareth and you’ll know why every day is a great day to be a Roadrunner!
What occurs on a shadow day? You will “shadow” your host throughout his or her day of classes and get a feel for the academic and social aspects of Nazareth Academy. Experience why Nazareth is a great place to be.
Who can shadow at Nazareth?
We encourage all 7th and 8th Grade students to spend the day at Nazareth. 8th Grade students may schedule a visit beginning in September and 7th Grade students may schedule a visit on select days during the second semester.
When should I visit?
8th Graders can schedule a shadow day any day of the week school is in session. 7th Graders can visit on designated days beginning in January. Nazareth students follow a block schedule. How do I schedule a shadow day?
Please call Mr. Bobby Lee at 708.387.8538 a minimum of two full days in advance to schedule your visit. Call soon as certain dates fill up fast.
Whom will I shadow during my visit to Nazareth?
Our goal is to help you have the best day possible. Your host for the day will be either a freshman or sophomore who has interests and academic goals similar to yours. If you know a current Nazareth student you would like to shadow, we will make every effort to accommodate your request.
Where and when should I arrive?
Please come to the main office on the west side of the building by 7:45 a.m. Mr. Lee will greet you and introduce you to your Nazareth host. School begins at 7:55 a.m. with shadow pick-up at 3:00 p.m. Please arrange for pick-up at the main office at the conclusion of the school day.
What should I wear?
Dress pants, skirt, or school uniform with a collared shirt or sweater are all acceptable. Please do not wear leggings, shorts or ripped jeans. No crop tops. Any closed-toed shoes are acceptable.

What else do I need to know?
You don’t need to bring anything with you for the day. Nazareth will provide you with a folder and pencil, as well as a lunch voucher valued at $8. You may want to bring an extra dollar or two just in case! Students are allowed to bring a phone but are asked to refrain from use during school hours.
