Create Your Legacy
THE LEGACY CONTINUES Each year, in conjunction with Closing School Mass, we take a moment to honor alumni who have chosen to continue their Nazareth legacy by sending their children to our beloved school. Despite that celebration going virtual this year, Nazareth delivered keepsake candles and encouraged Class of 2020 alumni parents (and grandparents) to pass along the light from that candle to their fellow family alumni.

NAZARETH ACADEMY’S CLASS OF 2020 GRADUATION LOOKED DIFFERENT FROM WHAT ALUMNI MIGHT RECOGNIZE.
Since these 187 distinguished graduates could not gather as one in a physical location, they shared their celebration through both a pre-recorded Mass and a staggered Commencement and Conferring of Diplomas in the Romano Family Theatre on July 26, 2020. In his Baccalaureate Address, Reverend Richard J. Prendergast encouraged the Class of 2020 to embrace the unexpected with faith. “Never let anything but love be your first priority. That is always where you will find the unexpected because God is love. With God at your side, there is no good you cannot do, there is no love you cannot live.” Salutatorian Julia Olander, who will attend the University of Pennsylvania in the fall, delivered the First Reading which reminded all of us to “look straight ahead with honest confidence.” Michael Rooney, Valedictorian, echoed the call to find the hidden gifts in life’s unexpected turns. “With the surprising gifts this pandemic has given us, it is all up to each of us to take advantage of the gifts that God has presented... every member of this class has the opportunity to make something special and to impact the lives of others, and for the sake of our world, I hope that you all take it.” Michael has accepted an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point. The Sister Oliver Donlin Award, the very highest service award that can be earned by a graduating senior, was given to Maria Murphy. Principal Therese Hawkins said, “She is a young woman who uses her gifts and talents to bring about a better world...she couples grace with passion for the causes, people and places she is passionate about.” She will attend the University of Notre Dame in the fall. The traditional graduation candle lighting was led by this year’s Kairos leaders as President Deborah Tracy encouraged graduates to use the flame sparked in their time at Nazareth to bring light into this world.
