UNESCO Global Geoparks are regions with a geological heritage of international importance. In geoparks, geology and all the other regional features help to sensitize the population and their guests to the environment and to strengthen regional identity. This is done in a holistic approach to protection, education and sustainable regional development.
In the international network of the UNESCO Global Geoparks, the regions can learn from one another and develop together (www.unesco.org/geoparks): The European and Global Geoparks Network (EGN: www.europeangeoparks.org & GGN: globalgeoparksnetwork.org).
In autumn 2020, the “Natur- & Geopark Mëllerdall” has submitted its new candidacy for the UNESCO Global Geoparks program.
