Men’s health and vitality can mean many things. For me, true vitality has never been simply about strength or performance. It is something deeper. It is about showing up fully in life with energy, purpose and presence. It is about feeling engaged in mind, body and spirit while maintaining a connection to the things that ground and sustain us.
Living in Tucson offers daily reminders of what that kind of vitality can look like. There is something about the desert landscape that encourages awareness and reflection. The mountains, vast skies and quiet beauty of the Sonoran Desert seem to call us back to what is essential. Men often carry many responsibilities throughout life, but there is also a spiritual dimension to masculinity that is not always part of the conversation. It is the adventurous spirit that seeks new horizons and remains open to discovery. It is the man who feels renewed standing among towering saguaros at sunrise, restored after time spent on a trail or reconnected through a moment of stillness beneath an expansive desert sky. It is curiosity, resilience and freedom. It is the willingness to continue learning, growing and evolving throughout every season of life.
As we move into June, Tucson reminds us that summer has arrived. Temperatures begin to climb and many of us naturally shift our routines, starting our days a little earlier for morning walks, hikes or bike rides before the desert heat settles in. We also come to appreciate the season’s simple pleasures: cooler evenings on a patio, local markets, outdoor gatherings and sunset skies that paint the mountains in changing colors. Living here teaches us there is wisdom in adapting to the rhythms of nature rather than pushing against them.
This month’s issue, Men Built to Thrive, explores health and vitality from a more complete perspective. Our feature article, The Facts About Low Testosterone, on page 14 examines a topic receiving significant attention and offers insights about energy, aging and well-being that can benefit all of us.
If you are a man and picked up this edition, I hope you find something useful and supportive in your daily life. If you are a woman reading this issue, there is much here for you as well, and I hope you will share it with the men in your life who may benefit.
June also brings Father’s Day, offering an opportunity to honor the men who step into the role of fatherhood and mentorship. Some are fathers by birth, while others become father figures through guidance, support and simply being present. The men who encourage us, teach us and quietly show up for us often leave an impact far greater than they realize.
As we move through this month, I encourage all of us to celebrate those meaningful connections and remember that thriving is not solely about productivity or achievement. It is also about living with intention, maintaining balance and cultivating a life rooted in health, purpose and joy.
Wishing you a month of vitality, meaningful connection and beautiful moments beneath our Tucson skies.

Potential Risks of Using Chatbots for Medical Advice
Concerns have been raised about the reliability of medical advice given by artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots. A recent study in Nature Medicine evaluated the accuracy of ChatGPT Health, OpenAI’s free consumer health tool, launched in January 2026, which has millions of users. The researchers compared how well ChatGPT Health handled triage recommendations compared to the best advice from doctors. A total of 960 recommendations were evaluated.
The most dangerous failures happened at the extremes: When conditions were not urgent, 35 percent of ChatGPT Health’s responses recommended more care than necessary, and when conditions were emergencies, 48 percent of the chatbot’s responses failed to recommend urgent or immediate attention.
When it came to emergencies that are considered “gold standard”, ChatGPT Health did not treat them as seriously as it should have in 52 percent of cases. For example, it sent patients with diabetic ketoacidosis or impending respiratory failure to see a doctor in 24 to 48 hours instead of directing them straight to the emergency room. However, it did a good job with classic emergencies like strokes and anaphylaxis.
The researchers also found that context influenced recommendations. When a family member or friend minimized symptoms, the system was more likely to suggest less urgent care in borderline cases. Crisis support messages for suicidal thoughts also appeared to be inconsistent.
Affordable Alternatives to Long-Term Care
As Americans live longer, the need for long-term care planning continues to grow. Nearly 70 percent of Americans turning 65 will require some form of long-term care services during their lifetime, including assistance with bathing, dressing, meal preparation, medication management or mobility.
Unfortunately, traditional long-term care insurance can be expensive and often difficult to qualify for, especially for seniors with pre-existing health conditions.
Many retirees are now exploring affordable alternatives that provide meaningful protection without requiring perfect health to enroll. Today’s options include home health plans designed to help seniors remain independent while receiving care in the comfort of their own homes. Some plans may include in-home medical services, access to a home health aide, partial reimbursement for prescription medications and even compensation for a family member serving as a caregiver.
Other plans provide flexible coverage that can help pay for both in-home care and care received in an assisted living or skilled nursing facility when needed. These solutions may help families reduce financial stress while supporting access to quality care.
Planning ahead can help individuals and families better understand available options and avoid making difficult decisions
during times of crisis. Learning about the range of coverage choices available today can provide peace of mind and help create a strategy that supports both health and financial well-being.

Improv, Community and Creativity
A Conversation with Chris Seidman of Unscrewed Theater
by Suzie Agrillo
In the heart of Tucson’s arts scene, Unscrewed Theater, a nonprofit organization, has carved out a unique space for laughter, spontaneity and connection. Built entirely around improvisational comedy, the theater offers something refreshingly different: affordable live shows where nothing is scripted, every performance is unique and the audience plays a central role in shaping the experience.
Unscrewed Theater brings together a rotating cast of local performers who specialize in improv, an unscripted style of theater that relies on quick thinking, collaboration and creativity inspired by the traditions of groups like The Second City in Chicago. The Tucson troupes deliver high-energy shows ranging from short-form games like those seen on Whose Line Is It Anyway? to longer, storydriven performances, including musical and comic book improvisation shows.
Beyond entertainment, the organization’s mission emphasizes education, including improv classes for people interested in learning the craft. It provides a supportive environment for performers to develop their skills.
What truly sets Unscrewed Theater apart is its emphasis on community. Every month, Unscrewed Theater partners with local charities to help raise funds. The theater often hosts special events, themed nights and collaborations with other local nonprofit organizations.
In July, Unscrewed Theater is collaborating with nonprofit Sol Dog Lodge, a state-ofthe-art campus in Marana, to raise funds. It is a “one-stop oasis” dedicated to keeping dogs and their families together. Sol Dog Lodge is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that offers essential dog care services, including professional training,
grooming and specialized care to support owners in crisis and prevent pets from being surrendered to overcrowded shelters.
On July 4, Unscrewed Theater will allow owners to bring their dogs to the show, giving dogs with noise anxiety sanctuary from fireworks. Barry Weisband, Sol Dog Lodge’s donor relations and stewardship manager, notes, “The July 4 fundraiser is a vital opportunity for our community to invest in the future. The funds raised will directly support our mission to expand our programs and ensure every dog in our care receives the highest professional standards of kindness and training.” The event will include raffle baskets to raise funds and attendees at all live shows in July will be invited to donate to the cause as well.
At the center of Unscrewed Theater is Executive Director Chris Seidman, performer, teacher and passionate advocate for the power of improv. He says, “We are Tucson’s place for improv comedy.” We sat down with Seidman to talk about the theater’s mission, the art of improvisation and why saying “yes, and” can change more than a scene.
Q&A With Chris Seidman, Executive Director of Unscrewed Theater
What drew you personally to
improv?
I moved to Tucson in 2004 and went to a show by an improv troupe named Not Burnt Out Just Unscrewed. I had done drama in high school for four years, which helped me hone my skills in timing and delivery. Improv hooked me because of its immediacy.
There’s something electric about creating something out of nothing with a group of people you trust. I loved the laughter and spontaneity I experienced at the show and decided, “I can do this.”
Unscrewed Theater emphasizes clean comedy. Why is this important?
We are dedicated to clean, inclusive comedy. Having all-age shows is essential for a community theater. It’s interactive with audiences, so it’s very communal, making it important
Chris Seidman and Suz (Edith Head)
“This class was such a fun, welcoming experience! I stepped outside my comfort zone, reconnected with my playful, silly self, and had so many laughs along the way. The games and exercises made improv feel exciting and approachable from day one, and I met some amazing people in such a supportive environment. I look back on the experience with fondness and a real sense of accomplishment.”HB, attendee
to have a safe space. What really defines us is our commitment to creating a welcoming atmosphere where anyone can laugh and learn.
Clean doesn’t mean boring; it means creative. We challenge ourselves to be smarter and more inventive. Families, seniors and people who might feel uncomfortable in a typical comedy club can all feel at home here.
What is the mission statement of Unscrewed Theater?
Unscrewed Theater is dedicated to teaching and showcasing the art of improvisational theater, as well as other unique forms of entertainment. We foster a safe and supportive atmosphere in which artists can grow and explore their talent. We provide a venue to showcase these talents to enrich our community through the arts.
What makes the Tucson improv community unique?
Anyone who is an improv performer in Tucson is generous with their talent and their community. It’s a volunteer-driven theater. Tucson has an incredible mix of talent and heart. People show up not just to perform but to support each other. We’ve worked hard to create a strong sense of community here.
You’re also an educator. How does teaching improv impact your perspective?
Teaching is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do. Watching students grow, take risks and surprise themselves is amazing. I think it makes me a better performer. Working with students takes me back to basics that provide a foundation.
Improv isn’t just about being funny; it builds skills like confidence, communication and empathy. Whether you are in a meeting, having a tough conversation or just navigating daily life, the “yes, and” mindset can make a huge difference.
What can a first-time audience member expect at a show?
Expect to be part of the experience. Most importantly, expect to laugh a lot. All of our shows are different. We have a group called “From the Top,” which is a musical improv group. They take suggestions from the audience and create a Broadway-style musical with live musicians, live performers and no script.
Another group is Comic Chaos, which is like an improvised comic book. They create a superhero-villain comic book story. The musical and comic book shows are what we call long-form shows. Then we have a shortform improv show, Not Burnt Out Just Unscrewed, similar to Whose Line Is It Anyway?, with many audience suggestions. We often host 9 p.m. shows for ages 17 and older.
What are some of the themed shows you’re doing?
We did a special Star Wars show in May, and we have a Beach Blanket Bingo show in
July. We also rent out the theater to other nonprofits for events such as plays, standup comedy and student productions.
What role does improv play beyond entertainment?
The principles of improv comedy can really help with communication. You practice listening and acceptance. It’s collaborative, unpredictable and teaches you to listen in a whole new way. I think everyone should take an eight-week improv class.
We offer this experience to people who are not career performers. People can build confidence, practice public speaking and learn how to work together as a team. These are life skills. Just try it. You don’t have to be funny, you don’t have to be outgoing, you just have to be willing. Improv meets you where you are and might surprise you where it takes you.
If you could give one piece of advice to someone curious about improv, what would it be?
Come see a show.
The July 4 show will be a family-friendly performance at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. Unscrewed Theater is located at 4500 E. Speedway Blvd., No. 39, Tucson. Call 520-289-8076 or visit UnscrewedTheater.org.

Microneedling & Cosmetic Acupuncture for Hair Loss
A Natural Solution
by Dr. Robin N. Umberger, DACM, L.Ac.
The United States is seeing a marked increase in people reporting and experiencing hair loss. Along with that rise comes an increase in medications and supplements being offered to address the issue. These treatments can vary in effectiveness because many are designed to slow certain bodily processes or stimulate others that may be affected by underlying factors.
Clinical studies have identified many contributors to hair loss beyond genetics. Common factors include stress, hormonal changes, medical conditions, nutrient deficiencies, medications and even certain hair care products. Adding to the complexity, hair loss may result from one factor or several occurring simultaneously, making it important to look at the body as a whole rather than focusing on a single cause.
Microneedling and cosmetic acupuncture offer an approach that addresses hair loss on multiple levels. Acupuncture has shown promising results in clinical studies and may support hair regrowth by helping restore balance throughout the body while also targeting points associated with circulation and hair growth. Treatment may be used on the scalp as well as the beard, mustache and eyebrows.
Microneedling uses a pen-like device with a cartridge containing tiny needles that create controlled stimulation in the skin. The process may help stimulate hair follicles, reduce inflammation, increase collagen production, improve circulation and encourage
new growth in targeted areas. Topical numbing agents may also be used to increase comfort during treatment.
Additional therapies are often incorporated to enhance results. Dietary therapy may help address nutritional gaps, while red and blue light therapy can support circulation, collagen production and inflammation reduction. Herbs and supplements may also be recommended to provide nutrients associated with healthy hair and nails.
A standard treatment plan may include one microneedling session each month along with weekly cosmetic acupuncture sessions over an eight-week period.

Reclaiming Men’s Vitality
Why Men Feel Depleted
by Heath Shealy, MAcOM, LAc, LMT, Chill Acupuncture and Wellness Chill Acupuncture & Wellness
Men’s health is having a moment, and not just in the gym or supplement aisle. Across the country, more men are asking deeper questions: "Why am I always tired? Why is my focus off? Why doesn’t my body recover as it used to?" While “low testosterone” often receives much of the attention, many men are experiencing something more fundamental: chronic depletion and the cumulative effects it can have on energy, resilience and healthy aging.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), this is where Yang Sheng (养生), often translated as “nourishing life,” offers a practical framework. Rather than focusing on temporary fixes or chasing symptoms, Yang Sheng emphasizes preserving and strengthening the systems that support long-term vitality.
Modern lifestyles can quietly tax the systems responsible for energy and resilience.
By CHLOÉ ANNE-MARIE at AdobeStock.com
Chronic stress places demands on the nervous system and contributes to elevated cortisol levels. Poor or inconsistent sleep limits the body’s ability to recover and restore balance. Some individuals push intensely through exercise without allowing adequate recovery, while others experience the opposite challenge of inactivity, which can slow circulation and metabolism.
Daily habits can also play a role. Irregular eating patterns, dependence on caffeine and ongoing mental demands often become normalized. While these patterns may seem manageable in the short term, over time they can contribute to fatigue and reduced vitality.
From a TCM perspective, these habits can deplete deeper systems responsible for sustaining long-term health. In this tradition, the body is viewed as operating on both immediate energy and more foundational reserves. When those reserves are
continually drained without opportunities for restoration, people may begin noticing changes in how they feel and function.
For many men, the concerns go beyond laboratory values or a desire for more productivity. What they often want is a return to feeling like themselves. They want reliable energy throughout the day, improved mental focus, stronger physical performance, restorative sleep and the ability to recover more efficiently.
Fatigue and burnout do not always happen suddenly. Often, they develop gradually. What begins as feeling slightly more tired than usual can slowly become persistent low energy, slower recovery, reduced motivation or a sense that maintaining previous levels of performance requires more effort than it once did.
Stress can also affect the body in ways that extend beyond emotional well-being. Over time, accumulated stress may influence sleep quality, digestion and physical tension. It can also create patterns in which the body remains in a prolonged state of alertness rather than recovery.
Yang Sheng suggests that the first step toward restoring vitality is becoming aware of the factors that consistently drain it. Instead of simply adding more stimulation through caffeine, supplements or increased intensity, it encourages paying attention to recovery, rest and sustainability.
Understanding depletion is not about doing less. It is about recognizing that longterm vitality requires support and balance.
In the next installment, we will explore practical Yang Sheng principles and daily strategies that may help support energy, resilience and healthier aging.

The Facts About Low Testosterone
What Every Man Should Know
by Marlaina Donato
Testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), available as injections, patches, gels, pills and implant pellets, was a global market worth nearly $2 billion in 2022, and is projected to reach nearly $3 billion by 2032, according to Allied Market Research. Yet TRT is often misused for symptoms like fatigue or for athletic enhancement, when it is actually meant to treat clinically diagnosed low testosterone.
While this pivotal sex hormone is responsible for male puberty, sperm production and healthy libido, it also acts as a critical metabolic regulator and driving force behind physical energy, healthy muscle mass, bone density, red blood cell production and mood regulation. When men experience a decline in performance— whether at work, in the gym or in the bedroom—it may be easy to assume that low testosterone levels are to blame, but the misuse or overuse of TRT places users at risk for undesirable side effects.
According to the Mayo Clinic, the potential risks of TRT include: worsening sleep apnea; skin reactions, including acne; noncancerous growth of the prostate and growth of an existing prostate cancer; enlargement
of the breasts; a reduction of sperm production; and overproduction of red blood cells, which could lead to a life-threatening pulmonary embolism. In addition, according to a 2018 study in the World Journal of Men’s Health, TRT can cause infertility.
Reaching the Correct Diagnosis
The American Urological Association defines low testosterone as a total blood serum level below 300 nanograms per deciliter (ng/dL) on at least two separate early morning tests, accompanied by symptoms like low sex drive and performance, fatigue, loss of muscle mass, increased body fat and depression.
“Many men are seeking TRT to treat nonspecific symptoms like general fatigue, weight gain or a slight dip in motivation— issues that are often the result of lifestyle factors, rather than low testosterone,” says Dr. Joel Fuhrman, president of the Nutritional Research Foundation and the author of several books, including Eat for Life and Eat to Live Cookbook. In light of the trend of TRT over-prescription and the considerable risks, Fuhrman stresses the importance of considering effective natural methods to restore hormonal balance.
Men can experience a decline in their testosterone levels for reasons beyond testosterone deficiency. “Thyroid problems, vitamin D deficiency, high prolactin [hormone], chronic stress, certain medications, opioids and antidepressants all suppress testosterone or mimic its symptoms. Run a full panel before assuming it’s your testosterone. You might be chasing the wrong problem,” advises Nelson Vergel, a hormone therapy researcher, men’s health educator and creator of ExcelMale.com, an online men’s health and TRT forum.
Vergel highlights the devastating effects of chronic unresolved stress, which “tells the brain to dial back testosterone production. It’s a survival mechanism; your body prioritizes threat-response over reproduction. It makes sense in the short term, but it’s devastating long-term.”
Detox your skin, clear pores,
Raymond Wohl, the medical director of Chicago Male Clinic in Chicago, Illinois, says, “A decline in performance, libido or confidence is often an early warning sign of underlying issues such as elevated stress, reduced blood flow, hormonal imbalance or metabolic dysfunction.” Men are often surprised to discover that improvements in energy, sleep, weight management and mood frequently accompany enhanced sexual performance. Wohl emphasizes, “Sexual health is not separate—it’s a powerful indicator of total wellness. We recommend TRT only after a thorough evaluation, including lab work, symptom analysis and lifestyle review.”
Functional medicine specialist and men’s health coach Dr. Andreas Boettcher, in Lakewood Ranch, Florida, also recommends a comprehensive approach. “You need to look at the full hormonal picture, including cortisol patterns across the day; levels of DHEA-sulfate, pregnenolone, estradiol and prolactin; thyroid function, including free T3 conversion; and insulin markers,” he explains, naming multiple hormones besides testosterone.
“Hormone metabolism, balance and excretion are deeply dependent on your gut,” he points out. “The gut microbiome influences the signaling of virtually every hormone in the body, but the gut-hormone axis is a two-way communication highway, and when it breaks down—through gut permeability, dysbiosis [imbalance of gut flora] or chronic inflammation, hormone balance becomes nearly impossible to achieve, regardless of what else you do.”
Boettcher attests that approximately 80 percent of men receiving hormonal support no longer need TRT once the underlying factors are adequately addressed. Given the right environment, he explains, the endocrine system begins production at levels that restore vitality, energy, lean muscle mass and libido. During his mid-to-late 40s, Boettcher quadrupled his testosterone levels without resorting to TRT or shortcuts. Now approaching 60, he maintains a single-digit body fat percentage, which he attributes to consistent daily choices. He asserts that men are biologically designed to be lean, strong and metabolically healthy well into the latter half of life.
Testosterone Disruptors and Supporters
Vergel reports that a significant portion of his patients that were convinced they had
low testosterone turned out to have undiagnosed sleep apnea. “Just one week of sleeping only five hours a night drops testosterone by 10 to 15 percent in otherwise healthy men,” he says. “That’s not trivial. Everything else you’re doing—diet, training or supplements—gets undermined if you’re chronically sleep-deprived. Fix the sleep, and testosterone often comes back on its own.”
Psychological factors should also be considered. “Men who have carried unaddressed trauma for years often look hormonally like someone 15 to 20 years older with lower testosterone, lower DHEA [a testosterone precursor], disrupted sleep and blunted growth hormone,” says Vergel. “No dose of TRT fully compensates for an unresolved psychological load. You have to work both sides.”
Boettcher emphasizes the role of alcohol as an underestimated and significant contributor to hormonal anomalies. “Even moderate, consistent alcohol consumption impairs liver function, and your liver is the primary site of estrogen clearance,” he explains. “Disrupt that clearance and estrogen accumulates, testosterone declines and the hormonal balance tips in exactly the wrong direction.”
Boettcher also highlights the potential damage caused by Ibuprofen, a common over-the-counter medication. Over time, chronic use can damage the gut lining, impair nutrient absorption and disrupt
the raw materials the body needs to produce hormones.
Before making a lifelong commitment to hormone therapy, Fuhrman believes that most men can significantly improve their bioavailable testosterone levels by reducing body fat. “Adipose tissue contains high levels of the enzyme aromatase, which converts your existing testosterone into estrogen. Losing weight keeps your natural testosterone in circulation.”
He recommends resistance training, specifically compound movements such as squats, deadlifts, bench presses and curls to trigger a metabolic and hormonal signaling environment. He also suggests a diet rich in green salads and vegetables, including broccoli, kale and arugula; polyphenol-rich foods such as beans to promote a healthy gut microbiome; and omega-3-rich nuts and seeds (walnuts, chia, flax and sesame seeds) to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and cognitive decline.
Vergel cautions against ultra-processed food and excessive sugar consumption, which contribute to abdominal fat accumulation. He emphasizes the importance of clean protein and healthy dietary fats. “Don’t fear fat,” he remarks. “Testosterone is synthesized from cholesterol, so olive oil, eggs, avocados and quality meat protein aren’t your enemies.”
Vitality at Any Age
Ultimately, feeling well enough to live life to the fullest is not exclusive to a fortunate few. Vergel asserts, “The men I’ve seen most vital in their 60s and 70s are the ones who didn’t accept decline as inevitable. They asked questions, found good doctors and stayed in the game.”
Wohl offers hope and inspiration, saying, “Aging is inevitable, but decline is not. Sexual health does not have an expiration date. With the right interventions, men can maintain, and often regain, high levels of vitality well into later decades. Our oldest patient is 84 and still thriving.”

Less Impact, Deeper Purpose
Tips for Leaving a Lighter Footprint
by Zak Logan
Men are increasingly aware of the importance of leaving a lighter environmental footprint and contributing to the protection of Earth’s precious resources. Simple choices during the warmer months, such as opting for eco-friendly grilling, using cooling fans instead of excessive air conditioning and employing natural lawn maintenance techniques, make a significant difference. Everyday decisions like repairing items before replacing them and curbing the desire for “bigger and better” products not only saves money but also can provide a fulfilling sense of purpose.
“A ‘less is more’ mindset isn’t necessarily about aesthetics or minimalism. I think it has more to do with recovering your deeper values and purpose,” asserts Jeffrey Siegel, a men’s health coach in Boston, Massachusetts, and author of Eating 2.0: How to Eat Confidently in an Ultraprocessed World.
Sustainability Mindset
This summer, reducing our environmental impact can begin by transitioning from fossil fuel-dependent barbecues to more
sustainable alternatives such as eco-friendly, carbon-neutral pellet grills or electric models. James Farrell, a life coach and environmentalist in Brighton, England, advises, “Try not to waste food, reduce meat consumption and look for food produced using sustainable farming and fishing methods. About 25 to 30 percent of all food produced in the world is wasted—that is a billion meals a day.”
Farrell also recommends opting for local vacations instead of air travel and choosing fuel-efficient vehicles. Staying in eco-lodges or engaging in nature-focused activities can provide memorable getaways without contributing to environmental degradation.
Maintaining a natural, low-impact lawn without synthetic fertilizers and pesticides or planting native species can further enhance environmental sustainability. Native grasses, white clover or wildflower meadows mitigate environmental strain by supporting pollinators and sequestering carbon. To reduce noise pollution and emissions, manual tools or battery-operated trimmers, edgers and blowers are all good options.
Farrell also advocates a “circular economy” mentality—repairing or replacing the batteries of common devices like computers, phones and electric toothbrushes. “Personally, I try to make fewer, higher-quality purchases, knowing that they will last a long time.”
Jerry Reganess, a retired white-collar professional turned photographer in Milford, Pennsylvania, affirms that living a simpler “less is more” lifestyle frees up time for more meaningful pursuits, including cultivating rewarding relationships with family and friends that foster a positive state of mind. He shares this advice: “Lend and borrow. Consider donating before discarding. Trade and barter for goods. Purchase secondhand or thrift. Use unwanted items in art creations, and question and think before you make a new purchase.”
Paying It Forward
Walking lighter also means fostering emotional awareness. From personal experience, Siegel believes that a man that does fewer things with more intention feels more competent, not less. “The overdrive mindset keeps men in constant ‘doing’, while who they are ‘being’—their emotional availability, their warm presence, the quality of their attention—gets left behind,” he explains.
“Don’t wait to feel good before you act. Take action. Be generous, give something back. Be kind to yourself and others,” says Siegel, who believes that feeling good about oneself without excessive material possession will naturally follow. Living a gentler lifestyle by example is important. He notes, “I think one of the most valuable things you can give your children is a model of a man who knows who he is, acts from his own values, speaks from kindness, shows up with care and doesn’t need others’ approval to feel whole.”
Reganess, a father, underscores the significance of walking the talk without preaching to positively influence younger generations. “Teach by consistent stewardship behavior; suggest alternative ideas and share your reasons for these practices.”
Farrell recommends small efforts and contributing to nature, whether it involves planting a window box, installing a bird feeder or volunteering for a local community gardening program. “We all like to be comfortable,” he says. “There’s nothing wrong with that, but relying on stuff for our sense of inner well-being is a trap. Believing in ourselves, valuing ourselves and knowing how we contribute to our communities is a path to finding a better balance in life.”

THE BEST BLACK BEAN BURGERS
YIELD: 8 BURGERS
1 cup oats
1 cup walnut pieces
1 cup red onion, finely chopped
⅔ cup cremini mushrooms, chopped
½ cup red bell pepper, chopped
½ cup carrots, diced
2 Tbsp jalapeño peppers, chopped
3 cups home-cooked black beans (or 2 cans, rinsed and drained)
2 Tbsp ground flaxseeds
2 Tbsp nutritional yeast
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp paprika
2 tsp seasoning blend (such as Kirkland Signature No Salt Seasoning)
2 tsp low sodium soy sauce
1 tsp kosher salt
1 cup cooked brown rice
Pulse the oats and walnuts in a food processor until finely ground. Set aside.
In a large skillet, over medium-high heat, sauté the onion, mushrooms, bell peppers, carrots and jalapeño peppers until lightly browned. Add a little water. Cover and cook for 5 minutes.
Add the beans to the walnut and oat mixture in the food processor along with the ground flaxseeds, nutritional yeast, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, seasoning blend, soy sauce and salt. Pulse a few times. Use a silicone spatula to distribute the ingredients and pulse again once or twice. Keep some of the beans chunky.
Remove the mixture from the food processor, add the cooked brown rice and mix well with the spatula. Divide into 8 patties using a ½ cup measuring cup. Place the patties on a cleaned grill, on indirect heat (medium), and cook for 10 minutes on each side.
Serve on whole-grain buns with any desired toppings such as lettuce, sliced tomatoes, pickles, onions, avocado and condiments like ketchup or mustard.

2 tangerines, peeled and segmented
1 tangerine for its juice
1 tsp sea salt
1 tsp apple cider vinegar
1 sprig of fresh mint, chopped
1 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
Peel and chop raw sweet potatoes into 1-inch pieces, then boil or steam until tender. Once cooked, drain and place them in a large bowl and refrigerate until cold.
Take chilled sweet potatoes out of the fridge and squeeze one tangerine over the pieces before adding vinegar, olive oil, sea salt, mint and the tangerine segments. Gently combine before folding in the arugula. Serve cold.

Today’s men are balancing more than ever, careers, family, finances, fitness, and constant responsibility. Too often, personal health is pushed aside until small issues become major problems. START by taking care of your physical, mental, and oral health. Dentistry is often overlooked, yet it directly impacts energy, confidence, sleep, heart health, and overall wellbeing.
A healthy smile is more than appearance. Gum disease and untreated infections have been linked to inflammation, heart disease, diabetes complications, and chronic discomfort. Many men quietly live with broken teeth, missing teeth, pain, or years of delayed care.
At E Dental Solutions, Our goal is to change that. Whether you want to restore your smile, improve confidence, or finally address long-standing concerns, our office is here to help. We provide preventive care, cosmetic dentistry, implants, restorative treatment, and full smile rehabilitation tailored to your needs.
Improving oral health often improves more than just your teeth, it enhances confidence, first impressions, comfort, and quality of life.
If it has been years since your last visit, this is your sign to begin. We offer compassionate, judgment-free care focused on long-term health and confidence. YOU DO NOT NEED TO WAIT FOR PAIN TO TAKE ACTION. THRIVING STARTS WITH PREVENTION AND CONSISTENCY.
BECAUSE MEN WERE NOT BUILT JUST TO GET BY. THEY WERE BUILT TO THRIVE. Schedule your appointment today.
