Dear Traveler,
Almost 40 years ago, I needed a photograph of a polar bear for our very first Churchill brochure. There was one problem: I didn't own a camera.
So, knowing nothing about photography, I borrowed my girlfriend's camera (she’s now my wife), drove to the Bronx Zoo, and spent the day trying to photograph a polar bear. Looking back, it wasn't a very good image. In fact, it stunk. But seeing it on that little newsprint brochure taught me something I've never forgotten: every great photograph begins with a great story.
Today, that same belief in the power of conservation photography inspires every Nat Hab Photo Expedition.
Our exclusive itineraries, private camps, custom vehicles and small groups facilitate wildlife encounters that few photographers can experience on their own. Our worldclass Photo Expedition Leaders—chosen as much for their generosity and love of teaching as their photographic expertise—help you anticipate wildlife behavior, master light and composition, and create your strongest images yet.
And every journey serves a greater purpose. As the travel partner of World Wildlife Fund (WWF), we believe photography can inspire conservation. Your adventure helps protect wildlife, supports local communities, and ensures that the stories you capture contribute to the future of the wild places you came to photograph.
I hope to see you out there,

Ben Bressler Explorer, Founder, Conservationist • Natural Habitat Adventures

As a photographer on a quest for nextlevel wildlife and landscape images, you need a guide who is a gifted artist and image-making coach. But when your subject is nature, that’s not enough: Your guide must also be a highly trained naturalist with expertise in biology, ecology and wildlife behavior, well-honed tracking skills, and interpretive acumen.
Our peerless Photo Expedition Leaders bring all of this to your adventure, including special access to resources from WWF conservation scientists. Your guide’s in-depth knowledge of the wild world ensures you’ll be poised to capture those rare and fleeting moments that make for images of a lifetime. And the personalized guidance you’ll receive, whatever your ability level, will enhance your craft from composition to post-production.

With Nat Hab, your photo opportunities are anything but conventional. From Zodiac outings in the ice-choked fjords of East Greenland to our mobile camps in the middle of Africa’s Great Migration, our Photo Expeditions provide access to settings and subjects you won’t get with other companies or on your own.
Our itineraries get you deeper into wild places for more original imagery. And our personal connections—with biologists, Indigenous teachers and renowned local photographers—offer experiences not available to the typical traveler with a camera. With slower pacing and long days in the field to chase the best light, we allow time and patience to pursue the shots you covet. And with plenty of room in our vehicles and extra weight allowances on certain flights, we accommodate more of your gear.
Learn More: nathab.com/photo-trips

Numbers on our Photo Expeditions are strictly limited, ensuring access to remote places and accommodations off-limits to larger groups, for a deeper immersion in nature. Many trips are guided by two Photo Expedition Leaders or supported by highly qualified local guides. As a result, we can often divide into even smaller groups for unobtrusive wildlife encounters—essential for quiet approaches, extended viewing and coveted close-ups.
In smaller groups, we’re able to be flexible—to linger longer when the alpenglow on Denali is exquisite, or to wait patiently for a Bengal tiger to emerge from the underbrush. With fewer numbers, you’ll also get plenty of tailored guidance for your photography process, from help with camera settings to postproduction techniques during evening editing sessions.

Our Exclusive Camps, Lodges, Ships & Innovations Keep You Closer to Nature
At Nat Hab, we’re committed to bringing our travelers life-transforming encounters with nature. And we set things up so that’s exactly what your photos will convey. We’ve created our own collection of exclusive camps, ecolodges, small ships and natureviewing locations that get you farther out there, away from crowds and commercial tourism, where silence, wonder and wildlife reign.
Whether you're at one of our secluded African safari camps snapping animals gathered at the waterhole in front of your tent, or capturing a portrait of a giant tortoise at our private camp in the Galapagos, or getting video of the northern lights dancing in the Arctic night sky, on a Nat Hab Photo Expedition, you are totally immersed in nature!
Learn More: nathab.com/camps-lodges

The right vehicle plays an important role in a successful nature photo expedition. And we carefully choose the optimal transportation mode for each adventure. Whether you’re photographing polar bears aboard a custom Polar Rover, scouting for wolves in Yellowstone from our North America Safari Cruiser, or capturing a jaguar leaping for a caiman from our river skiff, our vehicles are chosen to grant the best possible access to the shots you seek.
In most cases, smaller vehicles are key, as they get us into more remote places. But we never fill them to capacity, no matter the size. When we're out shooting, everyone gets a window seat and plenty of room for your gear. We also prioritize sustainability, and we’re proud to feature a growing fleet of electric vehicles in multiple destinations.

When you travel with Nat Hab, the word “luxury” takes on new meaning. While our secluded camps, ecolodges and small ships provide impressive comfort and amenities, the real luxuries are rare, aweinducing moments in nature that only a fortunate few will get to photograph.
Capture a whale breaching from your bayfront tent-cabin at Base Camp Greenland, surrounded by raw Arctic wilderness. In the austere alpine heights of the Indian Himalaya, track elusive snow leopards just beyond our private mountain lodge. At Nat Hab's Alaska Bear Camp, open the glass door of your private cabin to photograph brown bears roaming the beach.
Our accommodations are distinctive in their own right. But the real luxury is how they set you up for the most extraordinary photos you’ll ever pursue!

Conservation travel—including our Photo Expeditions—helps nature and wildlife by encouraging sustainable stewardship of natural habitats. Our dollars provide incomes, education, ranger support, poaching patrols, support for schools and clinics, and hope for the future.
And our partnership with World Wildlife Fund is integral to our mission. Since 2003, Nat Hab and our guests together have given more than $52 million to WWF's work to conserve Earth's most precious and imperiled places.

Expedition

Soon after Natural Habitat Adventures was launched in 1985, we began taking travelers to see baby harp seals in Quebec. We wanted to show local communities that ecotourism could bring economic sustenance, providing an alternative to hunting the adorable furry “whitecoats.” That model has remained at the heart of our company since. When people find an economic incentive to protect habitats and wildlife, it is a powerful force for conservation. Human-wildlife conflict is prevalent in many places. Yet when conservationminded scientists, NGOs and ecotourism operators work together with local communities, we can find solutions that protect livelihoods as well as natural resources and wildlife. When you travel on a Nat Hab Photo Expedition, you are part of this success story!

Since Nat Hab became the world’s first 100% carbon-neutral travel company in 2007, we have continually tried to shrink our carbon footprint and pursue greater transparency, including the launch of our Carbon Clear Vision program, which breaks down the carbon emissions on every trip.
We’re rolling out a growing electric vehicle fleet, and we are investing in new technology initiatives such as Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and Direct Air Capture. We’ve signed on to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), a global climate action plan aimed at reaching net-zero emissions.
We strive to educate our team, travelers, partners and suppliers through our partnership with WWF and in our guide training. Our world still has a long way to go to cut carbon, but it’s an effort we are proud to help lead.

Few places on Earth offer photographers the primal encounters with wildlife you’ll find on our African photo safaris. Like capturing the golden gaze of a lion, camouflaged in the tawny grass. Or the dust billowing from the hooves of thousands of wildebeest and zebra migrating across the Serengeti. Or getting a portrait of a contemplative silverback surveying his troop of mountain gorillas in the rainforest. To find and document these rare experiences, a small, unobtrusive group is essential, led by a guide who is both an expert naturalist and an accomplished wildlife photographer. Nat Hab's secluded camps on private reserves provide proximity to abundant animals, far from crowds. And with our Photo Expedition Leaders’ extensive training and tracking skills, you’ll see and photograph much more.

Southern Africa, East Africa, Australia, Asia
Born in South Africa, John Mittan spent his earliest years immersed in the African wilderness before his family relocated to Perth, Australia. Growing up amid the vast landscapes of the Outback, he developed a love for adventure and wild places, though Africa never lost its hold on his imagination. While studying biological sciences in Sydney, John discovered an opportunity to train as a field guide in South Africa's renowned Sabi Sand Game Reserve. That decision launched a career spanning wildlife guiding, conservation education and expedition leadership. After mentoring aspiring guides and leading training programs for underserved youth, he joined Natural Habitat Adventures in 2005. As a naturalist Expedition Leader and accomplished nature photographer, John has explored some of the planet's most remote corners, from the savannas of Africa and rainforests of Borneo to Antarctica's frozen wilderness. His photography reflects both technical expertise and a deep understanding of the natural world, capturing the landscapes, wildlife and fleeting moments that make travel transformative. He loves helping guests slow down, observe more deeply and create images that tell meaningful stories.

Born and raised in the German Alps, Sabina spent her childhood exploring forests and mountains, developing a lifelong passion for the natural world. That early curiosity led her to study ecology and conservation, earning an M.S. in biology from the University of Regensburg while researching remote ecosystems across the globe, from the Siberian boreal forest and the savannas of Burkina Faso to the rainforests of the Peruvian Amazon. In 2017, Sabina found her true calling as a wilderness and bear-viewing guide in British Columbia's Great Bear Rainforest. Her deep understanding of wildlife ecology, paired with a gift for connecting people to nature, made her a natural leader in one of the world's last great coastal temperate rainforests. An accomplished photographer, Sabina draws on her scientific expertise to capture rare, intimate moments in the wild, especially with bears. As a Photo Expedition Leader, she inspires awe, fosters conservation awareness and helps guests create transformative experiences and stunning images. When she isn't guiding, Sabina embraces adventure, often hiking deep into British Columbia's wilderness in search of solitude, beauty and connection with nature.

Today, he brings that same sense of excitement and discovery to every adventure, whether guiding guests among Mexico's monarch butterflies, exploring the Galapagos, searching for wildlife in Patagonia, or photographing nature closer to home. Known for his warmth, enthusiasm and infectious curiosity, Fernando helps guests sharpen their observation skills, improve their photography and connect more deeply with the natural world. After a childhood spent mostly outdoors in southern Ontario, Canada, Lianne Thompson studied zoology before building a career in conservation with zoos and environmental organizations. Early on, she recognized the power of science communication to bridge the gap between research and public engagement, later earning a master's degree focused on leadership, education and community-based conservation. Her work took her around the world, where exposure to innovative conservation initiatives deepened her commitment to human-wildlife coexistence and sustainable tourism. Today, as a photographernaturalist Expedition Leader, Lianne combines education, adventure and photography to create meaningful experiences in nature. She believes that photography is more than documentation—it's a way of connecting people to places, wildlife and memories. A single image can evoke the bite of an Arctic wind, the glow of the northern lights, or the warmth of sunrise over a mountain peak. Whether guiding guests to photograph polar bears, whales or the aurora borealis, she loves helping others discover wonder in the natural world while inspiring a deeper commitment to conservation.

The gaze of a wild tiger is a coveted image for a nature photographer—and we offer you the best possible odds of attaining this rare achievement. In the tiger enclave of Tadoba National Park, as the late Indian spring heats up and the monsoon still months off, tigers must move into the open to drink, leaving the shaded underbrush to reach water at least twice a day. With fewer visitors at this time of year, it’s typically the best season to photograph tigers and other wildlife, which may include sloth bear, leopard, civet, Asiatic wild dog, gaur, barking deer, caracal, jackal, peacock and mongoose.

The elegant snow leopard is a creature of legend in the Indian Himalaya. Known locally as the “gray ghost,” they are masters of camouflage, blending in on steep, rocky slopes. On this photo safari, the region’s best trackers help us pursue images few have a chance to attain. From our deluxe ecolodge in Ladakh, head out each day in search of these elusive felines. Other wildlife thrives in these austere heights, too, including bharal, urial and ibex—the wild mountain sheep and antelope that are the snow leopard’s prey—as well as Himalayan wolf and raptors like the lammergeyer, with its 10-foot wingspan.

Our trips are intended for individuals in good physical and mental health, with reasonably good mobility. The Physical Requirements section on each trip page on our website provides important information regarding the physical expectations for that trip. Please read this information carefully. In order to provide a fulfilling experience for all travelers, we must ensure that you are able to perform the required physical activities for your chosen trip, determined solely at Nat Hab’s discretion. Certain trips may require that you obtain medical approval before departure, and Nat Hab reserves the right to request additional medical information and/or a physical examination prior to or during your trip as a condition of your participation. Additionally, Nat Hab reserves the right to prohibit you from joining or continuing on a trip if, in our opinion, your physical, emotional or behavioral limitations or actions pose or could pose a threat to your safety or enjoyment, or that of other guests or staff, or to the safety of wildlife. Briefing
Upon booking, you will receive a confirmation email and a link to your customized Adventure Portal, which hosts initial documents, including your invoice, trip forms, air travel information, visa and vaccination requirements (if any), and more. Approximately one to two months prior to departure, you will receive a comprehensive PreDeparture Briefing with details about the trip, destination, history and wildlife of the region, what to pack and how best to prepare. We can send your Pre-Departure Briefing electronically if you indicate this preference. These details can also be found on your Adventure Portal.
We understand how disappointing it can be if you are forced to cancel or change your long-anticipated adventure. But we, too, plan far ahead before each departure and continuously send nonrefundable payments to hotels and other suppliers. Therefore, we must strictly
adhere to our cancellation and trip change policy for all travelers. We strongly suggest purchasing travel insurance† to help protect your trip payments in the event you must cancel or otherwise change your plans due to one of the listed covered reasons.
The following are the terms of our cancellation and trip change policy:
• All cancellations processed 121 or more calendar days prior to departure will incur a minimum of a $200 cancellation fee per person. Some trips and extensions have nonrefundable deposits. Please consult the specific trip page on our website for details.
• Cancellations made 61 to 120 calendar days prior to departure are assessed a cancellation fee of 50% of the entire trip price, including internal air, extensions and extra services such as hotel nights.
• Cancellations made 60 calendar days or less prior to departure are assessed a cancellation fee of 100% of the trip price, including internal air, extensions and extra services such as hotel nights.
• Custom-designed trips and extensions require a 25% nonrefundable deposit and follow our standard cancellation and trip change policy unless otherwise stated.
• Deposits for a private booking of a scheduled trip or extension where a guest has reserved the entire or partial departure through our Make It Private program are 25% of the trip cost and are nonrefundable.
All cancellations and trip change requests must be made in writing by mail or by email and received and acknowledged by Nat Hab. Travel insurance purchased through Nat Hab is completely nonrefundable after the 10-day review period.
In the event either Nat Hab or the guest changes, reschedules or rebooks a trip or extension, including custom-designed trips and custom-designed extensions, for any reason, including, but not limited to, force majeure, the cancellation and trip change policy as of the date of the original booking shall remain in full force and effect. For example, for any cancellation or trip change received between 61 to 120 calendar days prior to the departure of the originally booked date, a fee of 50% of the entire trip price, including extensions, will apply for the revised date regardless of the lead time of a cancellation of the revised departure date. Similarly, cancellations or trip changes received less than 60 calendar days prior to the original departure date shall be assessed a fee of 100% of the trip price, including any extensions, regardless of the lead time of a cancellation of the revised departure date.

To help protect your financial liability, we strongly suggest purchasing travel insurance.

Getting to or from a Nat Hab Trip
Nat Hab guests are responsible for getting to and from the start and end points of their trip, which includes abiding by all government entry and exit requirements, including those related to visas, and for arriving by the designated start time on the first day of the trip. Should guests be delayed for any reason in getting to or departing from a trip, or must leave a trip early, Nat Hab is not liable for any additional costs incurred in joining or leaving the trip (such as costs for accommodations or transportation), nor will guests receive a refund for any missed portion of the trip as a result of late arrival, early departure, quarantine or other illness. Visit nathab.com/ health for the most up-to-date health- and safetyrelated protocols.
As an exclusive service for our guests, Nat Hab offers a full-service Travel Desk that is available to assist you in purchasing international (and Alaska) air tickets and certain hotel reservations. Please note that Nat Hab’s Travel Desk does not book flights within the continental United States or Canada and cannot book flights with airline miles. Please call our office at 800-543-8917 for more details.
In order to join a Nat Hab trip, you are responsible for obtaining and maintaining all required documents and vaccinations and accepting and following all health and safety protocols, which may be found at nathab.com/ plan-trip. These can include, but are not limited to, valid passports, visas and vaccinations. Additionally, you are responsible for knowing and meeting the entry and transit requirements of all countries you will be visiting or traveling through in relation to your trip. For current passport and visa requirements, please visit travel.state.gov as well as individual country websites and/or embassies in the countries visited. For up-to-date vaccine information, please visit cdc.gov/travel. For individual country entry requirements, please visit the individual country websites and/or embassies.
We encourage single travelers to join us! If you are traveling on your own, you can request either a single room or a roommate match. Single-room accommodations are subject to a single-room surcharge, which guarantees a private room without a roommate (where available). See individual trip pages on our website for pricing details. In order to keep our single-room surcharges as low as possible, on occasion, single rooms may be smaller than double-occupancy rooms. Single-room accommodations are not available on all trips.
If you request a roommate match, we will do our best to find a same-sex roommate; however, if we cannot arrange a match, you will not be charged a single-room surcharge. Please consult specific trip pages on our website for details. On all custom-designed trips, 100% of the single-room surcharge will always apply, as there is no opportunity to arrange a roommate match.
Nat Hab welcomes families on certain trips and offers select scheduled family departures. On certain trips and most family departures, children 6 years and older are welcome. Due to safety regulations, physical limitations and concerns regarding group dynamics, we do not allow children younger than 6 on our trips. Additionally, some trips, or specific activities within a trip, have higher minimum age requirements. We strongly encourage you to call our office to speak with an Adventure Specialist about the specific requirements of the trip you’re considering so you can make an informed decision about your child’s participation. On all trips, the parent or legal guardian of children under age 18 must sign the Minor Permission Waiver requiring guardians to ensure that children in their care do not place themselves, other guests, staff or wildlife in harm’s way, or jeopardize the enjoyment of the trip for the group as a whole.
All of Nat Hab’s trips are conducted in English. You must have a proficient understanding of the English language in order to fully enjoy all aspects of the adventure and, most importantly, to fully understand all rules and safety instructions provided by the Photo Expedition Leader(s). We are unable to provide translated pre-trip materials or translators during the trip.
With ample notice, Nat Hab can generally accommodate common dietary restrictions on most of our trips, such as vegetarian, dairy-free and gluten-free (though it may not be possible to accommodate celiac disease—please ask an Adventure Specialist for more information), though limitations on food variety may exist. However, given the nature of adventure travel, and the often-remote nature of our trips, Nat Hab cannot guarantee that allergens or items on your restriction list will not be present at restaurants, accommodations or elsewhere during a trip. Ultimately, you must take responsibility for your own health and safety and understand that we cannot guarantee against cross-contamination or airborne transmission of allergens during the trip.
