Care and Maintenance Guide Looking after your Chalet Laminate Flooring is easy with the right care and maintenance. By following the recommended guidelines, you can help keep your floor looking great and performing at its best for years to come.

Preventative Maintenance • Installing good-quality mats inside and outside of external doors to trap grit and remove moisture from shoes is a sensible precaution and will reduce the possibility of scratches. • In high-traffic areas, or areas where spillages may occur, the use of mats is recommended for added protection. • All furniture should have felt pads fitted to the base of its legs or to any other areas in contact with the floor, to help prevent scratches. • Avoid using wheeled chairs (i.e. office furniture), or ensure that a large, goodquality office mat is used to prevent indentation of the laminate flooring. • Rubber-based items (e.g. the underside of some mats, castors under furniture, and rubber-tipped furniture feet) should not come into direct contact with the floor. • Any liquids spilt on the floor must be wiped up immediately.

Curtains, blinds, or UV-resistant window films should be used. These precautions will help reduce exposure to direect sunlight and protect the flooring. Furniture and rugs should be move occasionally so that the effects of sunlight are distributed evenly across the floor. • Maintaining the temperature and humidity within a reasonably consistent range will help keep the floor stable. The humidity level in the home should be maintained between 45%-60% RH (relative humidity) year-round, using humidifiers or dehumidifiers as required. Weatherstrips can be installed on all external doors to help maintain the indoor environment. This will also help reduce extreme fluctuations in temperature and moisture within the building.

General Cleaning • The use of wet and dry vacuum cleaners, including robotic models, is not permitted on laminate floor.

• Keep pets’ nails trimmed to protect the floor from scratches.

• Sweep the floor regularly to remove loose dirt, grit and dust using a microfibre cleaning pad or a soft broom.

• All laminate flooring reacts when exposed to direct sunlight, which may cause colour changes or fading.

• If vacuum cleaning, the vacuum head must be fitted with a soft brush to avoid damage to the floor.

Chalet Laminate | 25

• Use a suitable spray mop (with a microfibre cleaning head attached) and spray the surface sparingly with a pH-neutral floor cleaner when required. This will remove stains, dirt, footprints and other marks that may be present. Rinse the microfibre cleaning head regularly in clean water and replace it when dirty. • Pull the mop back towards you and wipe lengthways across the floor using a zigzag motion. • Ensure the floor is wiped dry with a microfibre cloth and that no moisture remains on the surface after cleaning. • If spills occur, they must be wiped up as quickly as possible and cleaned with a pH-neutral cleaner. The use of a lightly damp or ‘well wrung out’ mop is appropriate for larger spills. • DO NOT wet mop the floor at any time, as excessive amounts of water may cause damage. • DO NOT USE scouring products and/or any wax or varnish coating on the floor.

Steam Mop Cleaning • If necessary, a suitable steam mop can be used on the 12mm laminate flooring. The use of a steam mop should not exceed once per fortnight. • Before using a steam mop, ensure the floor is free from any sand, stones or grit that could be dragged across the surface and caused damage.

26 | Chalet Laminate

• Using a suitable steam mop pad and cloth is essential to ensure that moisture and heat are distributed evenly across the floor. • IMPORTANT: Always use the steam mop on a lower power setting. Never allow your steam mop to remain in one spot for more than 30 seconds while in use, as this may result in damage to the laminate flooring. Always follow the steam mop manufacturer’s user instructions/guidelines and contact the manufacturer for further information if required.

96 Hour Moisture Guard Thanks to its unique core design, Chalet laminate flooring is proudly engineered to withstand exposure to moisture for up to 96 hours in household settings. It is important to note that even though this laminate is more resistant to moisture than others, it is vital to promptly clean up spills and moisture to prevent damage to the surface. As with all HDF-based products, Chalet laminate flooring is not waterproof. The flooring will therefore react to moisture in the environment, causing it to expand or contract. Excessive wetting of the floor is not permitted at any time. This flooring cannot be installed in any wet areas including bathrooms, laundries, toilets or areas subject to regular moisture or water.

Avoid the following • Indentation from stilettos or spiked heels. • Pulling or pushing furniture or other objects across the floor. • Using abrasive cleaning materials, or harsh detergents/household cleaners on the floor. These cleaning methods/ materials will harm the surface of the floor and may cause physical damage to the boards. • The use of solvents of any kind to clean the floor. Methylated spirits, turpentine, bleach, ammonia, eucalyptus, citrus, vinegar and/or similar solutions will damage the floor surface. All spillages and stains must be cleaned immediately with a pH neutral cleaner. • Urine spillages must be avoided at all times, as it will damage the flooring surface. • Exposure to direct sunlight through sliding doors and/or windows. Hybrid flooring needs to be protected from direct sunlight by blinds or curtains. • Excessive water, wet and dry vacuum cleaners, including robotic model, should not be used.

Major Failure Chalet Laminate Flooring is highly resistant to chips, scratches, stains, wear, moisture and heat, but still not “proof” in any respect (i.e. scratch proof and waterproof). Slight colour and/or pattern variation from batch to batch may occur, minor gaps between the joins of each board might be caused by temperature or relative humidity changes. Please note these minor gaps, batch colour and/or pattern variation, chips, scratches are

not considered to be major failures. Once floor has been installed, it is considered that the product has been accepted by the installer/contractor.

Acceptable Quality and User Guidelines Chalet Laminate Flooring is designed for use in internal environments, including floors and walls, and should not be used externally. Furthermore, Chalet Laminate Flooring should not be directly adhered to a subfloor and must be installed as a floating floor. The flooring should be installed in a “laminate flooring-friendly environment” where the area is occupied, protected from direct heat and sunlight, and where heating and cooling systems are in place and used to control internal temperature and humidity. Maintain the internal relative humidity level between 45% and 60% throughout the year, using humidifiers or dehumidifiers if necessary. Chalet Laminate Flooring should not be installed in wet areas, including bathrooms, toilets, or rooms where a floor waste (water drain) is present or required. Residential kitchens are not considered wet areas. In areas where spills may occur frequently, such as kitchens and living areas, ensure spills are wiped up and dried as soon as possible to avoid moisture ingress and possible plank deformation. Excessive wetting of the floor and exposure to pet urine are not permitted at any time. This flooring cannot be installed in wet areas, including bathrooms, laundries, toilets, or areas subject to regular moisture or water.
