Installation Tips (for Customer and Installers) :
For best results, we recommend using an experienced, qualified installer to ensure the terrazzo is laid correctly and performs as expected. After installation, the surface should be sealed with a suitable sealer to protect it— terrazzo should be treated much like natural stone when it comes to sealing and ongoing maintenance.
When selecting grout, a colour that closely matches the tile will provide the most consistent finish. If considering a contrasting grout, it’s important to test it on a sample first, as strong contrasts may not achieve the desired look and are generally not recommended.
elegante terrazzo
National Tiles set out to find an authentic partner for the Elegante Terrazzo collection, and Italy was the obvious destination. There, we discovered Mattoli, a third-generation, family-owned artisan renowned for its cement-based surfaces and a legacy of craftsmanship dating back to 1923.
The story begins in Jesi, in Italy’s Ancona province, where founder Manlio Mattoli first focused on creating urban pieces such as benches and decorative fountains. In the 1960s, the business evolved when Manlio’s brother Antonio and his eldest son Giuseppe joined him. Together, they embraced advanced machinery, expanding production to include beautifully crafted concrete flooring.
Today, the next generation, Giuseppe’s children Manlio, Massimiliano, and Marta, carry the tradition forward. Under their direction, Mattoli has become a specialist in terrazzo, producing a wide array of colours, styles, and patterns, including the refined Elegante collection.
Each tile in the range is authentically crafted from a blend of marble chips, marble powder, and cement. By incorporating by-products of stone processing, the tiles offer a more sustainable choice without compromising on quality. The natural stone inclusions create subtle variations in colour, chip size, and texture, giving every piece a unique, organic character.
