2021 Green Power Program Annual Report
In 2021, the Green Power Program (GPP) received $39,824 from approximately 1,500 voluntary member contributors. This supported rebates of $35,000 for renewable energy systems installed within the Mountain Parks Electric (MPEI) service territory. Now in its 23rd year, the GPP’s local footprint continues to grow. Prior to January 1, 2011, GPP funds were used exclusively to purchase renewable energy credits (RECs) outside of MPEI’s service territory. Since then, the program has shifted its focus, allocating funds toward local renewable projects. Over the past 11 years, the GPP has awarded over $280,000 toward local renewable projects. The GPP’s mission remains simple, yet relevant: to financially assist MPEI members to install local, renewable resources. Grateful rebate recipients “pay it forward.” They too contribute to the program so that rebate dollars are available for future renewable projects.

In addition to the residential solar projects highlighted above, MPEI’s GPP has supported other types of renewable installation. In 2018 the GPP provided a rebate to the first floating solar array in Colorado, providing power to the municipal water facility in Walden. In 2016 GPP assisted its first hydropower project, the Town of Grand Lake’s 7-kilowatt micro-hydro recovery system which generates between 40,000 – 55,000 kilowatt-hours a year. The GPP has also helped fund electric vehicle charging stations in the towns of Winter Park, Kremmling and Grand Lake. 1

Program Funding: Easy, Convenient, and Affordable Although some members contribute $100 a month, any MPEI member can support the program by contributing $1 a month or more. One-time and annual contributions are also accepted. Contribution forms are available at the Granby and Walden offices or online at https://www.mpei.com/green-powerprogram-contribution-form
Green Power Advisory Committee The GPAC consists of three volunteers with local connections that meet at least once quarterly to review rebate applications, set policy and discuss how to best grow the program. The committee is comprised of: •

Notice of opening for Green Power Advisory Committee The Green Power Advisory Committee is currently seeking applications for new committee members. The mission of the program is “To support the integration of distributed energy resources into MPE’s distribution grid in a manner that considers the value to the system and individual members.” The committee meets quarterly and reviews and rewards rebates for local renewable energy projects as well as provides information and recommendations to the MPE Board of Directors and staff regarding distributed energy resources.
