Message from our Head of School Dear Mariners Christian School Community, As you open this year’s Annual Impact Report, I invite you to pause and celebrate all that God has done at Mariners Christian School. For nearly four decades, our mission, building a firm foundation through Christ-centered education, has remained steadfast. Yet each year, we have the privilege of seeing that mission take shape in new and meaningful ways as God works in the lives of our students, families, and staff. Our theme this past year, “Created in Christ” reminded us of a profound truth: that “we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Every student who walks through our doors is uniquely created by God, deeply loved by Him, and designed for a purpose. Our work is not simply to educate students, but to help them discover who they are in Christ and to equip them to live out the good works God has prepared for them.

The pages that follow tell the story of that work. They highlight accomplishments and milestones, but more importantly, they offer glimpses of lives being shaped. Behind every number is a student growing in knowledge, character, faith, and confidence in who God created them to be. Behind every achievement is a teacher faithfully investing, a family partnering, and a community committed to the eternal work of Christian education. We are deeply grateful for the many people who make this work possible. To our current families, alumni, grandparents, donors, and friends, thank you for your prayers, generosity, encouragement, and partnership. Because of your investment, students at Mariners Christian School are being given the opportunity to flourish academically, relationally, and spiritually as they learn to step into the purposes for which God created them. As you read this report, may you join us in celebrating not only what has been accomplished, but Who has been faithful through it all. We give God the glory for His work in our school and look forward with great anticipation to all He has yet to do. With gratitude and joy, Heather Harrison Head of School

Major Milestones Recognized as the Top Christian School of 2026 In January 2026, Mariners Christian School was named the Top Christian School of 2026 in the United States by Education Insider—an extraordinary honor and meaningful recognition of the work God is doing through our school community. This distinction celebrates MCS’s commitment to providing a distinctly Christ-centered education marked by academic excellence, whole-child development, and a community deeply rooted in faith. While recognition is never our goal, we are grateful when the work happening at MCS is affirmed beyond our campus. This honor reflects the faithful investment of our faculty and staff, the partnership of our families, the dedication of our students, and the vision and leadership that have shaped MCS for generations. Most importantly, it is a reminder of who we are and why we exist: to build a firm foundation through Christ-centered education and prepare students to know Christ, pursue excellence, and live with purpose. We celebrate this recognition with deep gratitude not simply for being named among the best, but for the opportunity to remain faithful to the mission God has entrusted to MCS.

Investing in the Future of Exemplary Academics One of the most significant milestones of 2025–26 was the creation and hiring of MCS’s firstever Director of Academics, a strategic investment in the future of Exemplary Academics at MCS. As we continue to grow and pursue excellence, this new schoolwide leadership role will strengthen the alignment and coherence of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning across TK–8. The Director of Academics will help translate our academic vision into consistent practice, support teachers in continually strengthening instruction, and use evidence of student learning to guide ongoing improvement. This investment creates greater capacity for MCS to build upon the strong academic foundation we have established and to ensure that Exemplary Academics remains not simply a core value, but a continually advancing commitment for generations of Mariners to come.

Firm Foundation Building for a Flourishing Future Named for our mission, building a firm foundation through Christ-centered education, the Firm Foundation Strategic Plan is a five-year vision for strengthening MCS today while securing a flourishing future for generations to come. The plan is centered on two initiatives: Fortifying the Cornerstones of Excellence and Securing Our Decidedly Christian Legacy. Together, these initiatives ensure that we are strengthening both what we do—providing an exemplary academic program and who we are a distinctly Christian school grounded in our mission and faith.

Fortifying the Cornerstones of Excellence A significant milestone this year was the addition of our first-ever Director of Academics. This vital TK–8 leadership position is dedicated exclusively to the strength, alignment, and continual improvement of our academic program. With a focus on curriculum, instruction, assessment, rigor, and mastery, the Director of Academics is helping ensure that every student receives an exemplary academic experience while also supporting the whole child. This new role represents a meaningful investment in the academic excellence that has always been a cornerstone of MCS.

Securing Our Decidedly Christian Legacy To bring the vision of the Firm Foundation Strategic Plan to life, we launched the Firm Foundation Capital Campaign, a $12 million effort to provide the resources necessary to complete these strategic initiatives and secure the future of MCS. The response has been extraordinary. Following the launch of the silent phase in October, 50% of our $12 million goal was committed by March, allowing us to publicly launch the campaign with our school community at the annual gala. By June, $7.5 million had been raised in commitments and pledges—an incredible testament to the generosity of our community and the confidence so many have placed in the future God has entrusted to MCS. This progress is more than a financial milestone. It is an investment in students, in academic excellence, in our Christian mission, and in the generations who will come after us. Because of this generosity, we are able to continue moving forward with the Firm Foundation Strategic Plan. The campaign continues throughout the 2026–27 school year, and we are prayerfully trusting God to provide the remaining resources needed to complete this vision. We believe in what God is doing at MCS, and we are deeply grateful to everyone who is helping build a firm foundation for the future. To learn more or make a gift to the Firm Foundation Capital Campaign, visit www.marinerscs.org.

Love for Christ Love for Christ is the foundation of the MCS experience. Through worship, biblical teaching, biblical worldview integration, discipleship, service, and community, we seek to help students know Jesus deeply and live out their faith with purpose.

Intentional Spiritual Formation Spiritual formation is an intentional and uncompromising part of the mission. We continually seek meaningful ways to help students know Jesus, understand His Word, grow in their faith, and live out their love for Christ in ways that are developmentally appropriate and deeply connected to where they are in their journey. Throughout the 2025–26 school year, this commitment took shape through new curriculum development, intentional discipleship, and opportunities for our entire community to worship together.

Building a Strong Foundation in the Early Years This year marked the development and pilot implementation of a new Bible curriculum for first and second grade, an important step in strengthening the spiritual foundation of our youngest learners. Beginning in the Gospels, the curriculum centers students on the person of Jesus, who He is, what He did, what He taught, and what it means to follow Him. In First Grade: Son of God, students explored 16 Gospel stories focused on the life and ministry of Jesus, beginning with His baptism and God's declaration that He is His Son. In Second Grade: The Words of Jesus, students focused on the words Jesus spoke throughout His earthly ministry, exploring 16 stories, parables, and sermons. Students discover what it means to live a full, Jesuscentered life. Together, these curricula are designed to give students a clear and lasting foundation in the truth of who Jesus is and what it means to follow Him.

Worshiping Together as a Community Our commitment to spiritual formation also extended beyond the classroom through the launch of our first MCS Worship Night during Spiritual Emphasis Week. Held during Holy Week, the evening brought approximately 100 students, parents, staff, and families of all ages together to worship Jesus and celebrate His name. From elementary students joyfully participating to middle school students, parents, and staff worshiping together, the evening reflected the beauty of a multigenerational community united in its love for Christ. What began simply as an invitation to create space for our community to worship became a memorable expression of our shared faith and the beginning of an annual MCS tradition. Through these efforts and many others throughout the year, we continued to pursue our commitment to Love for Christ: creating a school experience where students are not simply taught about Jesus, but are invited to know Him, follow Him, worship Him, and grow in a lifelong relationship with Him.

Making a Difference for the Kingdom The 2025–26 school year brought another opportunity for our students to put their faith into action through the Difference Maker program. Partnering with the Orange County Rescue Mission, Young Lives, Miracles for Kids, and the Ohana Project, four teams of students identified real needs in our community and asked how God might use them to make a difference. Through interviews with community partners and collaboration with staff, classmates, and families, students used the design-thinking process to develop creative responses including fundraising for sports equipment, blankets and pillows, baby clothing, and transportation and meal gift cards. More than completing a project, our students learned that loving Christ means seeing the needs of others, responding with compassion, and using the gifts God has given them to serve His Kingdom.

Mariners on Mission Mariners Mission Crew In 2025–26, we launched the Mariners Mission Crew, an opportunity for students and families to put their faith into action by becoming the hands and feet of Jesus in our community. Through two service events, students shared the love of Christ in meaningful, age-appropriate ways—bringing Christmas carols and the message of Jesus’ coming to residents at a local senior assisted living home and joining together for an elementary family beach cleanup. These experiences gave our students the opportunity to serve others, strengthen community, and live out Jesus’ call to let their light shine. Our students’ commitment to serving others extended beyond these events, as Mariners continued to live out our call to love and care for those in need. Through Mariners on Mission, students and families had opportunities throughout the year to give generously and support vulnerable communities through a variety of giving drives and ministry partnerships.

09

Middle School Share2Wear Initiatives Throughout the year, middle school students partnered with local organizations through monthly Share2Wear events which invite students to “share” by donating items to benefit selected ministries or non-profits. Those that share may participate in the selected theme dress day. Last year we expanded our partnerships and each organization expressed extreme gratitude for the generosity of our students and families. Lighthouse Homeless Shelter - supplied 200 fully stocked blessing bags for the homeless community Blue Star Families - $4,000 donated to military families OC Rescue Mission - 1,000 non perishable food items Project Giving Light - 300 Christmas presents for children in Foster Care Kathy’s House - gently used clothing and shoe drive Academy of Pediatrics OC Chapter - 400 books donated for Read Across America Day Honor Flight Southland - $8,300 raised to send veterans on an Honor Flight to D.C.

Heart2Serve: 7th Grade Serves the Community Across four days during the year, 7th grade students invested in serving others and blessing those in need. Students experienced the true meaning of serving others, the true heart of Jesus OC Food Bank - 220 boxes packed boxes for elderly people Project Giving Light - 350 birthday boxes built for underprivileged children Double R Ranch - maintenance and yardwork for those unhoused and in recovery Harvest Solutions Farm - harvested 80 crates of crops for local food bank

Elementary Gives to the Community Leading into Nativity Emphasis Week, elementary students and their families generously gave from their hearts to bless mothers and their children through Young Lives Ministry. A multitude of precious baby clothes and gift card donations overflowed collection boxes in hallways, as a beautiful reminder of God’s love and a reflection of our community’s care for others.

Exemplary Academics At MCS, Exemplary Academics means pursuing excellence in teaching and learning while continually looking for ways to help every student grow. Through strong instruction, meaningful professional learning, and intentional attention to student needs, we remain committed to providing an academic foundation that prepares students to learn, lead, and thrive.

A Message from our Principals Jen Herrera: Middle School Principal The 2025–26 school year was a year of meaningful growth for our Middle School students as they lived out our theme, “Created in Christ.” Across classrooms, chapels, homerooms, and student life, students were encouraged to understand who God created them to be, recognize their unique gifts, and use those gifts to serve and bring glory to Him. At the same time, continued investment in instructional practices, data-informed teaching, and intentional student support contributed to significant academic growth, while leadership, service, athletics, and community-building experiences nurtured the whole child. Together, these experiences reflected our commitment to developing students who are growing in faith, character, confidence, and purpose.

Johanna Hendries: Elementary Principal The 2025–26 school year was a year of meaningful growth for our elementary students as we continued to nurture their faith, strengthen their academic foundation, and cultivate the whole child. Through our “Created in Christ” theme, innovative learning experiences, intentional character and social-emotional development, and continued investment in teacher growth, students were encouraged to discover who God created them to be and how He has uniquely gifted them to serve His purposes. Strong academic results, including MAP Growth performance well above national norms, reflected the dedication of our students and teachers and the strength of the learning community we share with our families.

New Elementary Administrators Last year, the elementary school welcomed a new administrative team, Principal Johanna Hendries and Vice Principal Kim DeAllen. Both share a passion for Christian education, servant leadership, and a deep love for MCS students, families, and staff. Together, they partnered with the community to ensure a smooth leadership transition while strengthening the Christ-centered culture of academic excellence that makes MCS so special. With decades of classroom and administrative experience between them, both leaders were honored to serve MCS and build meaningful relationships while helping students grow spiritually, academically, and socially. They consider it a privilege to serve the MCS community.

Investing in Instructional Excellence Elementary School Professional Development Through our partnership with the UCI Math Project, TK–5th grade teachers engaged in research-based professional learning designed to strengthen mathematics instruction and develop students as confident mathematical thinkers. During Staff Development Days and dedicated MORE Time, teachers explored strategies that helped students articulate their mathematical reasoning, evaluate multiple solution pathways, and engage in meaningful mathematical discussions. Teachers also examined Number Talks and the 3-Read Word Problem strategies to deepen student understanding and problem-solving skills. Additionally, during the spring Coffee & Connect, parents had the opportunity to hear a UCI Math Project presentation and observe Number Talks in TK–5th grade classrooms.

Middle School Professional Development Throughout the 2025–26 school year, we continued to invest in the professional growth of our faculty with a focus on strengthening instructional practice and responding more intentionally to student needs. Professional learning centered on the effective use of student learning data, collaborative planning, and responsive instruction, equipping teachers to more consistently identify areas of need and provide targeted support and meaningful opportunities for extension. This work was primarily accomplished through the introduction and development of end of the day Advisory support focused on data-driven decisions to best support students proficiency and progress. This work strengthened a culture of shared responsibility for student learning across grade levels and departments. Rather than simply collecting data, our teachers are increasingly using it to inform instruction, guide collaboration, and make purposeful decisions that help every student grow. These investments in teacher learning are building greater consistency and intentionality in our instructional practices and laying a strong foundation for continued academic growth.

Whole Child Focus 03

At MCS, Whole-Child Focus means recognizing that each student is uniquely created by God and deserves to be known, supported, and nurtured in every area of development. We are committed to caring for the academic, spiritual, social-emotional, physical, and relational needs of our students so they can grow with confidence, discover their God-given gifts, and flourish as the whole person God created them to be.

Academy of the Arts Highlights Learning from Professionals Who Lead by Example Our students continue to benefit from learning alongside teachers who actively pursue their own gifts and passions. In April 2026, our orchestra teacher, Dr. Um, was honored as J.W. Pepper’s Composer of the Month, recognizing his work as a composer and musician. His achievement provided students with a meaningful example of what it looks like to develop one’s talents with dedication, creativity, and excellence. In our Whole-Child approach, we believe students are inspired not only by what their teachers teach, but also by the ways their teachers continue to learn, create, and use their gifts.

Academy Showcase and Production Last spring, MCS 8th grade Mariners Academy of the Arts Visual Art graduates, Joshua Kim, Lauren Yoo, Olivia Nguyen, Sydney Chang, and Sage Feichtmann, spent their final semester completing capstone projects representing their own personal artistic voices as a culmination of their time in the program taught by Mrs. Rogers and Mrs. Kirschner. Together, the students displayed and spoke about their work at the Mariners Academy of the Arts Showcase in May. Artwork by Lauren Yoo and Sage Feichtmann was also selected to be part of the 2026 OCDE 2D OCArts4All Student Showcase. Their artwork was exhibited across Orange County: at the Orange County Department of Education, South Coast Plaza Crystal Court, the Festival of Arts Laguna Beach Junior Exhibit, and the 2026 CA MTSS Professional Learning Institute.

Middle School Academy Theater Bedtime Stories (As Told by Our Dad) (Who Messed Them Up) (Fall 2025) Bedtime Stories (As Told by Our Dad) (Who Messed Them Up) was a special production that showcased the creativity, leadership, and independence of 30 Middle School Academy Theater students, supported by an 8student crew. As a student-directed show, four talented 8th graders led their peers from rehearsals through opening night, gaining valuable experience as artistic leaders. Every aspect of the production—from acting and directing to technical work and concessions—was managed by Academy students, demonstrating what young artists can accomplish when entrusted with meaningful responsibility. The production also raised more than $1,500 for New Life: One OC, supporting children in foster care who may not have a parent available to read them bedtime stories. More than a play, Bedtime Stories celebrated student leadership, creativity, service, and community, showing the impact students can make when given the opportunity to take the reins. 17

Middle School Productions Matilda Jr. (Fall 2025) In fall 2025, we proudly brought Matilda Jr. to life with 36 middle school performers and an enthusiastic tech crew of 8 students. Throughout rehearsals and performances, students demonstrated remarkable dedication, creativity, teamwork, and confidence. The production was a tremendous success with audiences, who loved its energy, humor, music, and heart. A standout moment was “When I Grow Up,” featuring swings hung onstage for the students to use during the number—an imaginative design element that created a magical moment audiences loved. The success of Matilda Jr. reflected the hard work and talent of all 44 students, who took ownership of the production, supported one another, and created a memorable theatrical experience for our community. Descendants: The Musical (Spring 2026) In spring 2026, we brought Descendants: The Musical to life with 38 middle school performers, 8 student crew members, and 4 theater alumni who returned to support the production. The show was a vibrant, high-energy celebration of student talent, with especially strong dancing, movement, vocals, and character work. Students embraced the dynamic choreography and musical numbers with confidence and enthusiasm, creating a fun and memorable experience for audiences. The returning alumni were a meaningful addition, sharing their experience while strengthening the sense of community within our theater program. The production showcased the students’ commitment, creativity, teamwork, and growth from beginning to end.

Elementary School Productions Alice in Wonderland, Jr. (Winter 2025) We were thrilled to bring Alice in Wonderland Jr. to life with an incredible cast of 70 students in grades 3–5, supported by a dedicated middle school tech crew of 9. The production gave our younger students the opportunity to experience the excitement of musical theater while building teamwork, commitment, and confidence. Three theater alumni also returned to support the production, sharing their experience and enthusiasm while helping strengthen our collaborative theater community. Together, the cast, crew, and alumni created a colorful, energetic, and memorable production that brought Alice’s unforgettable adventure to life for our audience.

Orchestra Last school year was a very successful one for our orchestra program, with several ensembles and individual students receiving recognition in international music competitions. The 4th Grade Orchestra earned Second Prize in the UK International Music Competition, the 5th Grade Orchestra received Second Prize in the Mozart International Music Competition UK, and the Middle School Orchestra earned a Silver Prize in the World Exceptional Musicians Competition. Individual honors included Olivia Chang (7th Grade), who received First Prize in the UK International Music Competition; Ella Liu (6th Grade), who earned Second Prize in the same competition; and Danny Taylor (5th Grade), who received a Silver Medal. We were incredibly proud of these accomplishments and grateful for the support of our orchestra program. These awards were a wonderful recognition of our students’ hard work, dedication, and musical growth.

Athletics Last year was a great year for the Middle School Athletic Program with 92 Boys and 75 Girls participating in Basketball, Volleyball, Flag Football, Golf and Soccer. This reflects the school’s commitment to provide opportunities for students to explore competitive athletics and develop skills 6th through 8th grade. Several teams achieved remarkable success, with many earning league championships including 7th Grade Boys Football, CALOC Champions and 6th Grade Girls Football, CALOC Champions. MCS also participated in the annual Newport Mesa Soccer Classic formerly known as “Pilot Cup”. 88 soccer athletes from 3rd- 6th grade competed in the tournament. Developing Christ-Like Leaders Middle School Students Lead the Way Throughout the year, the school intentionally created opportunities for middle school students to use and develop leadership giftings to serve God by serving others. One key opportunity occurred through the Associated Student Body (ASB). Last year, 23 students served in this capacity, working together to develop and lead their peers through a variety of competitions, service opportunities, and two student-led chapels. Through these experiences, students were given meaningful opportunities to grow in leadership, collaboration, responsibility, and service. In addition to ASB, 60 students served as Homeroom Representatives. Collaborating with ASB, Homeroom Representatives worked to strengthen engaging student life activities. Together, these leadership opportunities provided students with authentic ways to serve, lead by example, and use their God given gifts to positively impact their school and community.

Elementary ASB & 5th Grade Leadership ASB promoted whole-child development by equipping students with leadership skills, responsibility, confidence, and a heart for service. Through a rigorous election process 12 fifth-grade students were selected to serve as ASB representatives. Throughout the year, these student leaders demonstrated integrity and Christ-like character as they led chapel worship and prayer, delivered weekly announcements, designed and organized FriYay events and competitions. ASB representatives also managed the Lions Ticket program and planned a schoolwide pep rally to serve the student community. Through leadership and service, ASB representatives positively impacted their peers while growing in faith, character, and leadership.

Lion’s Corner The Lions Corner supports the social-emotional and spiritual growth of the whole child by providing a welcoming space where every student can feel valued and connected. Through the thoughtful leadership of Mrs. Crowell, students engage in a variety of enriching activities that foster friendship, collaboration, creativity, and a sense of belonging. Whether participating independently, with a partner, or in a group, students know they can find encouragement and connection in the Lions Corner. What began as a small gathering space has expanded to include clubs and activities such as Garden Club, Bug Club, Chess Club, Art Club, Kite Flyers, and opportunities for students to create and lead clubs based on their own interests. By cultivating meaningful relationships, leadership opportunities, and a Christ-centered sense of community, the Lions Corner helps students grow in confidence, character, and belonging. 20

Meeting the Unique Needs of our Students Middle School: MORE Mondays Middle school is a season of significant growth and change, and our students bring a wide range of academic, social-emotional, spiritual, and personal needs to the classroom each day. MORE Mondays were designed to intentionally create space to meet students where they are and help them grow in the areas that may not be addressed through core subjects. Throughout the year, students engaged in experiences focused on executive functioning, healthy mindsets, academic growth, goal setting, leadership, creativity, digital discipleship, the arts, and personal expression. These varied opportunities allowed students to discover and develop the unique gifts God has given them while building skills and confidence that extend beyond the classroom. By intentionally addressing more than academics, MORE Mondays reflect our commitment to the whole child helping middle school students grow not only as learners, but as young people who are learning to understand themselves, navigate this important season of life, serve others, and use their God-given gifts for His glory.

Growing the Hearts, Minds, and Character of Our Youngest Focused on forming and shaping the whole person, elementary focused on developing social-emotional skills and character traits to help them grow as learners, friends, and followers of Christ. Through a developmental social emotional learning scope and sequence, classroom lessons, and peer group experiences, students practiced growth mindset, kindness, teamwork, active listening, compassion, accountability, and healthy relationship skills in ways appropriate to their age and stage. The LIONS Pact, Listening, Including, Owning, Noticing, and Supporting, provided a shared framework for putting these skills into practice throughout the school day. Together, these intentional efforts helped students learn to navigate emotions, take responsibility for their choices, extend grace, and build meaningful connections with others, reflecting Jesus' example of how we are called to love and care for one another.

Connected Community 04

A thriving and connected community is one of the distinctives of MCS. Throughout the year, valued connections were strengthened across generations bringing students, families, grandparents, alumni, staff, and friends together through meaningful traditions, shared experiences, and new opportunities to invest in the MCS community.

A Generously Invested Community Lion Fund The Lion Fund is MCS’s annual giving initiative, providing the additional resources needed to sustain and strengthen the MCS experience beyond what tuition covers. Each year, the Lion Fund helps bridge the approximately 5% gap in our operating budget while investing in the areas that most directly enhance the experience of our students. The 2025-26 Lion Fund fundraising goal was $617,435. Gifts supported four key areas: Exemplary Academics, Capital Improvements, Innovative Resources & Technology, and Tuition Assistance. Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of our MCS community, $799,206 was raised through the Lion Fund and Annual Gala, exceeding our 5% operational funding need and providing additional resources to strengthen our school. Every gift is an investment in the students we serve today and in the firm foundation we are building for generations of Mariners to come.

An Evening of Community and Celebration Our annual Spring Gala, Ignite the Light: An Evening of Community and Celebration, was held at the beautiful waterfront Balboa Bay Resort in Newport Beach. The evening brought together 360 of our MCS community for inspiring fellowship, exciting silent and live auctions, and joyful celebration as we celebrated how God's truth and love shine through our students, families, and community. In addition, the Gala committee was one for the books with co-chairs Cindy Baseluos and Emma Parkin taking the lead and with 34 MCS mothers fully engaged in the planning and preparation and the night was truly beautiful! This special gala was also the exciting launch of the public phase of our capital campaign, Firm Foundation.

Ladies Luncheon More than 160 MCS mothers, grandmothers, alumni, and special friends gathered at our annual Ladies Luncheon for a beautiful afternoon of connection, fellowship, and encouragement. Christian author, speaker, and passionate volunteer Erin Stone shared a heartfelt message titled “Made for This.” Drawing from Ephesians 2:10, Erin reflected on the beautiful and sometimes bewildering adventure of motherhood and what it means to live as women who are truly “created in Christ.” 23

Honoring the Legacy of Grandparents In 2025–26, MCS launched the Grandparents Association, led by an enthusiastic committee of grandparents committed to strengthening the connection with the MCS community. As their first initiative, the committee identified a desire to make a meaningful collective gift to the school, resulting in two new LED screens for the Worship Center. This resulted in a $150,000 gift that will enhance worship, chapel, and community gatherings for years to come. We are deeply grateful for the engagement, generosity, and faithful support of our MCS grandparents.

Blessed by Alumni Connections This year marked the largest alumni participation in MCS history, with graduates returning to campus to reconnect, serve, and invest in the next generation of Mariners. Turkey Bowl: More than 40 alumni returned for our annual Turkey Bowl, participating in their own Teal vs. Black competition while also refereeing games for our current students. Alumni Chapel: Our largest-ever Alumni Chapel welcomed over 150 alumni, representing classes as far back as 2000. Alumni led worship, shared wisdom from their years at MCS and the lessons they have carried with them since, encouraging our current students to continue building their lives on a firm foundation. At Alumni Chapel, we also honored Abraham Woods ’22 as our 2025–26 Alumni of the Year. This award recognizes an alumnus who continues to stand on the foundation built at MCS, reflects our core values, and remains meaningfully invested in the MCS community. Abe exemplifies this commitment through his continued service in worship, regularly returning to lead worship for Middle School chapels and school events, as well as investing in students through Bible study leadership. We are grateful for the many ways our alumni continue to live out the MCS mission and pour back into the community that helped shape them

Investing in our Alumni During the 2025–26 school year, MCS staff proudly provided $11,700 for the Alumni Heritage Scholarship to support alumni by investing in their continued education and future success. We were honored to recognize Abraham Woods ’22 and Samuel Gibbs ’22 as this year’s Alumni Heritage Scholarship recipients. Through generous volunteers, family support, and a heart for serving MCS, PTF strengthened our community in meaningful ways throughout the 2025–26 school year. Community Events: Family BinGlo Night, Father-Daughter Boots & Bows Dance, and Moms & Sons Night at Medieval Times, creating opportunities for families to connect and make lasting memories. MCS Golf Classic: More than 130 golfers participated in our annual MCS Golf Classic, making it one of PTF's most successful fundraising events of the year. Through the tremendous generosity of our sponsors, golfers, donors, and volunteers, the tournament raised more than $100,000 to support PTF programs, community events, and campus improvements. Staff Appreciation: Celebrated faculty and staff during Staff Appreciation Week with thoughtful surprises, special treats, and a generous Blessing Fund. Campus Enhancements: Funded new sail shades for TK and Kindergarten outdoor learning spaces and replacement cushions for the Middle School upper patio. Community Impact: Continued to bring joy, connection, generosity, and servant-hearted support to the MCS community throughout the year. We are deeply grateful for the many parents who give their time, resources, and energy to make MCS a stronger and more connected community.

Culture of Innovation 05

Culture of Innovation is about more than technology and maker education. It is about approaching teaching and learning with creativity, curiosity, and a willingness to engage students in meaningful ways. One expression of this innovative approach is our commitment to extending learning beyond the traditional classroom, giving students opportunities to explore, experience, and apply what they are learning through unique hands-on experiences.

Learning Beyond the Classroom 2025–26 Learning Experiences TK: Tanaka Farms, 50s Day, 100th Day, Safari Day Kindergarten: Community Helper Day, Centennial Farm, 100th Day, Writing Celebration, Aquarium of the Pacific 1st Grade: Columbia Memorial Space Center, Character Clubs & Cocoa, 101st Day, Environmental Nature Center 2nd Grade: Discovery Cube, Mariners Marketplace, Book Tasting, Orange County Zoo 3rd Grade: Pumpkin Parade, Native American Experience, Wax Museum Experience, Environmental Nature Center 4th Grade: Walk Through California, Mission San Juan Capistrano, Mission Building, Invention Writing Celebration, A Day at Historic Julian 5th Grade: Espresso Yourself Writing Cafe, Walk Through the American Revolution, Knott’s Berry Farm 6th Grade: Pine Valley Science Camp, Richard Nixon Library Field Trip 7th Grade: Edwards Lifesciences Innovation Experience, Heart2Serve: 4 Days of Serving the Local Community 8th Grade: Washington, D.C., Last Hoorah to Knott’s Berry Farm

Bringing California History to Life Walk Through California launched as a new fourth-grade tradition in 2025–26, transforming the study of California history into an immersive, hands-on experience. Students stepped into the roles of explorers, pioneers, missionaries, farmers, and other historical figures while using games, music, storytelling, reenactments, and collaboration to bring their learning to life giving students a memorable way to understand California’s journey to statehood.

Experience of a Lifetime For generations, the 8th Grade Washington, D.C. trip has been one of the most memorable culminating experiences of the MCS journey. 8th grade students bring classroom learning to life as they explore our nation’s history through a Christian worldview, reflecting on the formation of our country, honoring the sacrifice of military service members, and engaging with the people and places that shaped our nation. Each year this momentous trip creates memories that remain part of their MCS story for life.

MakerEducation Innovators in Action Fifth grader Ayla Mendez earned Best of Class in the Grades 2–5 division of the 2026 Cardboard Creation contest at the Imaginology event at the OC Fair! Her win marks the third consecutive year MCS has received this honor. With 291 students showcasing their work, MCS also had the highest participation of any school in Orange County.

Inside MakerEducation The MCS Makerspace continues to be a hub of creativity, collaboration, and innovative learning. Last year, fifth graders used the Engineering Design Process to create original board and card games, developing skills in design, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Their work prepared them for the annual Elementary Extravaganza, where students across TK–5th grade enjoyed games and challenges created by their peers. TK and Kindergarten students used KEVA planks to share ideas, encourage one another, and practice grit. First and second grade students explored scientific thinking through engaging Mystery Science investigations. Third, fifth, and sixth graders explored circuitry by building small robots using coin batteries, vibrating motors, and simple materials. Through testing and modifying their designs, students learned to troubleshoot and improve their creations. Fourth graders researched inventors and created replica designs. Fifth graders applied creativity and problem-solving through game design projects and had the opportunity to participate in the Young Inventor Challenge. Every day in the Makerspace was an adventure, where students are encouraged to think creatively, solve problems, and discover new ways to bring their ideas to life.

Maintaining a Firm Foundation A strong and flourishing Mariners Christian School requires a firm foundation not only through what happens in the classroom, but through the strength of the people, resources, relationships, and stewardship that sustains the school. As we look at the health of MCS today, these indicators reflect the ongoing work of faithfully stewarding what God has entrusted to us while strengthening the foundation for the generations of Mariners yet to come.

Financial Stewardship In all aspects of financial stewardship, MCS has stayed committed to the highest levels of accountability and maintaining a balanced budget. In addition to an annual audit conducted by an independent, professional accounting firm, we continue to operate under the direction of a Board of Trustees Finance Committee to ensure thorough financial and endowment oversight.

Celebrating Faithful Service 30 Year Reflections

“

“

For 30 years, MCS has been more than a place I work—it has become a second home for me and my family. I’m grateful for the friendships, experiences, and ways God has grown my faith through this community.

When I’m asked what I love most about MCS, my answer has always been the same: the people and the community. For more than 30 years, I’ve experienced a community that loves Jesus, invests in one another, and keeps Christ at the center.

I continue to hold close 2 Corinthians 5:7: “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” As MCS looks to the future, I pray we continue to walk boldly in faith, trusting God’s plan for our students, families, and His Kingdom.

Karri Meyer 2nd Grade Teacher

I’ve watched MCS grow from a small campus of fewer than 250 students into the thriving school it is today. One of the greatest joys is seeing former students return with children of their own—a beautiful reflection of God’s faithfulness. I’m incredibly grateful for how MCS has shaped me as an educator, leader, mother, and woman of faith. Thank you for an amazing 30+ years!

“

As I reflect on 30 years at MCS, I’m grateful for the way we have remained true to our mission of building a firm foundation through Christcentered education. From our early days in portables to the thriving campus we have today, God’s faithfulness, protection, and provision have been evident every step of the way. Seeing former students return as colleagues and parents is a beautiful reminder of the lasting, generational impact of this community. MCS is home, its people are family, and I’m forever grateful to be part of its story.
