NOTE FROM THE MAYOR MARGARITAVILLE UPDATE Dear Friends, Neighbors, and Citizens: It is with great pleasure to communicate to the whole City what I believe many of you may already know – that a consortium of investors led by the City of Nassau Bay has purchased the Hilton Hotel Property with the intent to completely renovate the entire hotel into an upscale "Compass by Margaritaville Resort and Conference Center". The Resort will be named Compass by Margaritaville Nassau Bay. Your City Council, City Staff, especially our City Manager, Paul Lopez, and our City Finance Director, Jaime Vasquez, were essential in allowing the City to ultimately win out over Seabrook, Galveston, and Texas City for what will become the marquee Resort in the Margaritaville Suite of Hotels. This will be only the 5th Compass by Margaritaville in all of the United States. To date, $28 million has been raised to acquire the hotel, led by a $5 million pledge by the City. An additional $35-$40 million is anticipated to be spent to renovate the hotel into an upscale Resort and Conference Center.

In addition, due to the announcement of the successful acquisition of the Hilton and development of the Resort, I am also very pleased to communicate that Schafer Family Restaurants, currently located in Clear Lake Shores, has announced their purchase of the Luby's property with the intention to fully renovate the property into a full-service, sit-down, Seafood Restaurant and Bar. The old, abandoned Luby's building will now finally come to an end to the benefit of our entire community. I invite everyone to thank your entire City Council and City Staff on our success in providing the economic development to these most needed properties, as these projects could never have been achieved without their efforts, support, and united teamwork.
