Mayoral relief fund boosted Rudi Bowe

The Walvis Bay mayoral fund was boosted with N$856 300, of which N$218 000 came in for tickets sold, N$608 300 was received in pledges and N$30 000 was received for a marketing campaign at the Mayoral Fundraising Gala Dinner on Saturday, 1 October in Walvis Bay.

The mayoral relief fund that came into existence following the Atlantic Meat Market bomb blast in August 1986 which killed four people and injured 20, has over the years assisted the Walvis Bay community in various aspects. Walvis Bay Mayor, Trevino Forbes, said at the event, if one looks at how the fund came into existence, “I am not surprised it is still operational and still assists the most vulnerable. The Walvis Bay business community and individuals have continuously showed up when the town is in need.” According to Forbes, “the mayoral relief fund would not exist without the people and the business community of Walvis Bay, who have proven time and again how deep their pockets are. Nam-Zambia reviews implementation of bilateral agreements Sharlien Tjambari

Namibia hosted the 10th session of the Namibia-Zambia Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation in Swakopmund aimed at reviewing the implementation of bilateral agreements and memoranda of cooperation in a wide range of areas from 5-6 October. These include among others, trade and commerce, agriculture, fisheries, transport, education and training, youth and sport and culture. The two countries signed the legal framework agreement establishing the Zambia-Namibia Joint Permanent Commission of Co-operation shortly after Namibia's independence in 1990. During the opening ceremony of the 10th session, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah said, “ten sessions of the Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation and 23 sessions of the Joint Permanent Commission on Defence and Security, have taken place. These are instruments our two governments have relied on to further strengthen bilateral cooperation. I wish to place on record that Zambia remains and continues to remain one of the important bilateral partner to Namibia. We not only share a common border but a common people and heritage.” According to Nandi-Ndaitwah, Zambia is an important trade link for Namibia in the SADC region.
