Zimbabwe praises Namibia for smooth repatriation of its citizens The Zimbabwean ambassador to Namibia, Rofina Ndakaziva Chikava, praised Namibia for the smooth operations around the repatriation last Friday of 182 Zimbabwean nationals. The Zimbabwean nationals were among the crews that disembarked the passenger liner Carnival Fascination in the port of Walvis Bay for repatriation to their country. A number of Namibians also disembarked and were sent straight into quarantine. A meticulous operation was carried out where all the people that disembarked were kept in isolation and transferred by bus to the quarantine facilities. The Zimbabweans were bused to the Walvis Bay International Airport under escort of the Namibian Police. In the wake of the global Covid-19 outbreak, the travel industry was the first to collapse as countries closed borders. The tourism industry and hospitality industries followed soon. Fuel prices unchanged for June Fuel prices remain unchanged for June 2020, the Minister of Mines and Energy announced at the end of May. In Walvis Bay, the closest point of import and therefore also the lowest fuel prices in Namibia, petrol will continue to retail at N$10,35 per liter and diesel at N$11,13 per liter. The two main catalysts in the global fuel market that determines fuel market prices are crude oil prices and the fluctuation of the Rand (Namibian Dollar linked to the South African Rand) and the United States Dollar (the main trade currency to the Rand). Crude oil prices crashed globally as the world came to a standstill due to the global Covid-19 lockdown. Low economic activities globally meant less demand for crude oil (to manufacture into petrol and diesel to fuel economies). The only option that remained was for oil producers to cut crude oil production to drive fuel prices up (supply/demand). Organisation of Petroleum Export Countries (OPEC) and their Russian partner (OPEC Plus) cut crude oil output. Although it had a positive effect in that it drove crude oil and fuel prices up to some extend, it was not enough to drive up fuel prices on markets globally. Namibia as a net importer of petroleum products are reaping this benefit for now. Oil companies are also at the moment import diesel for more than the net cost of import (over recovery), but on petrol it is the reverse situation (under recovery). The National. Energy Fund subsidises the petrol price under recovery. The over recovery on diesel eases the burden on the NEF and therefore no price hike is necessary to offset the burden on the NEF.
Lighthouse Group dodges workers

Workers also allege they have never been registered for social security and were informed they could therefore not qualify for income loss relief. Workers yesterday tried to hand over a petition to the Group to demand their salaries, but the management allegedly locked up and departed the premises to avoid contact with employees.

Ayden and Tamaryn Beukes from Narraville Walvis Bay went through to the final stage of Maak my Famous, a popular reality show hosted by Emo Adams and Tarryn Lamb. Maak my famous gives young artists the opportunity to showcase their talent while being mentored by Emo and his team. Brother and sister Ayden (24) and Tamaryn (21) took the opportunity to showcase their talent and made their appearance and represented Namibia in the Top 48 of 8000 participants. Performing the hit song of the Jacksons 5, 'I'll be there' the due advanced to the Top 20 stage of the competition and on Wednesday night with an even better performance they advanced to the final stage, the top 10. Ayden and Tamaryn told the Namib Times that they did not enter for the prizes but did so to show the world that there are more talented people in Narraville after Vivian Molauly and Johnny Davids who won the Zing competition in 2003 in South Africa. Emo Adams, host of Make My Famous, after a heartbreaking episode on Wednesday night told the Namib Times via a Zoom meeting that Maak My Famous season 2 will go on a planned production break for eight weeks - a timely and inevitable decision due to the global COVID19 pandemic. The competition will be broadcasted live again from August 5, 2020, in which the Top 10 will be picked out before the winner of the second season will be announced at an incredible final. Emo also announce that all the viewers in Namibia and South Africa will for the first time have the opportunity to cast their votes during the live broadcast of the show, and so make a contestant Famous.
Emo concluded by saying that all top 10 participants are winners and that the roadshow next year will definitely make a turn at the harbour town in the Erongo region. Liebe Küstenleser! Es wird viel über den Ursprung des nicht gerade willkommenen Coronavirus’ gemutmaßt. Hat man das Miniaturlebewesen absichtlich in einem Labor in China gezüchtet bzw. beginnt irgendwann ein Krieg mit anderen Mitteln, nämlich Mikroorganismen? Ist der Virus beim Herumexperimentieren im Wuhan-Forschungsinstitut einfach aus Versehen entstanden? Manch einer nimmt an, dass der neue 5G (fünfte Generation)Standard für ein engmaschiger ausgebautes mobiles Internet Schuld an dem Gogga ist. Andere beklagen, dass Covid-19 künstlich entstanden ist, weil Bill Gates, einer der reichsten Menschen auf Erden, durch seine bekannten Impfkampagnen NOCH reicher werden will. Zwischendurch gibt es dann auch mal die nüchterne Stimme, die spekuliert, dass die Mikrobe ganz einfach zu einem der vielen Grippeviren gehört, die mutiert und natürlich entstanden ist. Was ist es, das uns geradezu besessen nach

Namibian young bowling star from Walvis Bay Carel (Cabous) Olivier is amongst the top 10 players of the world for 2019. The lawn bowl player from Namib Park Bowling Club at the harbor town was voted among the top ten favorite players of the world in a readers' choice survey conducted by the Inside Bowls magazine, the official magazine of World Bowls. The magazine recently launched a survey to select the top ten favorite players of the world and they received around 26,000 votes. Cabous is jointly ranked seventh with Indian bowler Tania Choudhury. While South Africans Esme Kruger and Billy Randolf are jointly ranked ninth and with Jo Edwards of New Zealand and Alex Marshall of Scotland jointly got the number one position.

Dota 2 online Tournament The Namibian Electronic Sports Association (NESA) is geared for the National Tournament in Defense of the Ancients 2 (DotA2) on 21 June 2020. NESA Treasurer Salomé de Bruyn said that given the current global climate concerning Covid-19, they invite players and teams alike to participate in this year's online tournament from the comfort of their own homes and encourage people to keep fighting the fight through social distancing. Registrations for this PC title tournament will close on 17 June 2020 and registrations can be done online on the NESA website www.esportsnamibia.org
De Bruyn said “Teams that are interested to participate should ensure that all team members are registered and paid before they will be allowed to participate in this online tournament with entry fees, N$50 for fully registered and paid NESA Members, and N$100 for Non-NESA Members. The NESA Membership fee is N$250 per annum.” “Players should note that only Namibians that are NESA Members will be eligible for National ESports Team selections
and non-Namibians are welcome to also apply for NESA membership as this support will go a long way in supporting NESA to grow gaming as a sport in Namibia” De Bruyn added. De Bruyn concluded that NESA is making every effort to secure more opportunities for Namibian esports athletes to compete internationally and develop professional gaming within the country. “NESA was able to send athletes to participate at the IESF Esports World Championship in
2017 through 2019, and every effort is being made to ensure the 2020 Namibian E-Sports Team will be afforded with the same opportunity.” This year's IESF ESports World Championship will be taking place in Eilat, Israel, from 15 to 20 November 2020. Additional international online matches will also be arranged for the Namibian Esports Team to hone their skills. Cash prizes are up for grabs, while Namibian players will be evaluated for possible selection for the Namibian E-Sports Team.
