Namport Celebrates Three inside State-ofRudi Bowe Decades the-art Namibia Ports Authority (Namport) celebrated three decades of milestones and memories that have shaped the port's legacy since 1994 on Monday, 30 September. The celebrations took place at the Port in Walvis Bay and also at the Port of Lüderitz in the south over the past weekend.

Namport's Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Kanime during the celebratory event reflected on Namport's achievements, saying the port's success is a collective achievement and would not have been possible without the great work by all who have cumulatively over the years contributed to the consummation of the mature institution. Kanime said, “it remains important that we continue to hold together as the Namport family and as one team as we continue to nurture Namport to another 30 years of growth and prosperity. I am therefore excited about what the future holds for us.” According to him, since 1994, Namport's asset base grew from N$93 million to N$6.9 billion, whilst their staff compliment grew from 318 to 820. The revenue grew from N$57

million to N$1.7 billion with the operating profit increasing from N$14 million to N$650 million. During the same period the TEUs grew from 20 000 to 171 000 containers, having peaked at 330 000 in 2012 and Blk and break-bulk cargo grew from 1.7 million tons to over 8 million tonnes per annum. “Looking ahead, we envision a further entrenchment of the growth and great potential which is presented by our Ports to serve our immediate Namibian market and beyond into the region,” Kanime said and continued, “as Namport navigates the complexities of the global maritime industry, it is imperative that we not only remain competitive players on the international stage but also contribute Continues on page 2

A brazen armed robbery unfolded at a popular supermarket at Walvis Bay, early Wednesday morning this week, with three armed men making off with over N$313 000 in cash, along with a cell phone and car keys. The incident occurred around 6:04 as the victim, an employee and son of the owner of the supermarket, was preparing to
