Two of his coaccused, Daniël Nghilifa (26) and Jerobeam Shidute (23), abandoned their intentions to also apply for bail. The trio faces charges of conspiracy to rob and murder, housebreaking, robbery, murder and hindering the course of justice. If convicted they face hefty prison sentences. It is alleged Nghilifa, Shidute and Lazarus broke into the house of the Strzelecki's in Vineta on 2 August last year. Nghilifa and Shidute worked at the elderly couple's residence in the weeks before the murder. Lazarus conspired with the two and masterminded a plan to gain entry to a safe the couple had in their home. After breaking in the trio first encountered Mrs. Strzelecki. They assaulted her, tied her up and gagged before she was strangled. When Mr. Strzelecki attempted to his wife's rescue he too was severely beaten up, strangled and left for dead. The robbers failed in their attempt to open the safe and instead stole a cell phone, the keys of the house, N$1000 in cash and a pair of sandals belonging to Mrs. Strzelecki before fleeing the scene. The bail hearing continues tomorrow. An honorary lecture takes place in Windhoek tomorrow night, to celebrate the life of Kosie Pretorius, the former leader of the National Party of South West Africa and later leader of the Monitor Aksiegroep and member of the Namibian National Assembly. Pretorius died at Walvis Bay last year at the age of 81. The lecture is hosted by the Heritage Cultural Centre (Erfdeel-kultuursentrum) in Windhoek. Pretorius in life dedicated a significant part of his energy, time and resources into the establishment of this centre which includes a reference library and a museum. The lecture will be presented by Professor André du Pisani, retired professor in politics at the University of Namibia. Operation Clean-up Epango lend a helping hand to OVC's at Kamwandi Eileen van der Schyff
Calling volunteers. On Saturday 3 November, the Mayor of Walvis Bay will be present as volunteers from the public will help in the cleaning up of the interior of the Narraville Police Station.
Mr Stanley Baumann is leading the clean-up and still needs 20 volunteers. In a meeting with namib times last week, Mr Bauman said: “It is our duty as citizens to keep our police stations presentable and clean.” The clean-up will start at 7:30 and finish at 17:00. Epango Charity Group handed over about 136 blankets to vulnerable and orphaned children at Kamwandi Combined School in Henties Bay recently. Epango Charity Group was established in 2011 by 9 women, who are passionate about helping the Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC's) and senior citizens in Erongo region. Since 2013, the Epango donated about 800 blankets to Schools within the Erongo Region. This year, the group was targeting to collect and donate 356 blankets for the OVC's at Kamwandi Combined School, but only managed to collect 136 and they are still
seeking help from the community to meet the target. There are still a few learners from the school who did not receive blankets. “It is against this background that we appeal to the community and organisations to assist us in making this dream a reality. Help Us To Help Others. We cannot do it without you! A blanket for just that one child will make a difference”, said Annete Tjaveondja of Epango Charity group.

Steven Williams lost his life upon arrival at the hospital last week Thursday, while riding his Kawasaki motorbike after a silver Polo made a U-turn in front of him. It is alleged that on Thursday, 25 November between 16:00 and 17:00 fifty-year-old Steven Williams was riding his Kawasaki motorbike behind a silver Polo driven by a 40year-old woman in Dr Swchietering Street, going towards the Ocean View circle in Swakopmund. It is further alleged that whilst they were travelling, the driver of the Polo made a U-Turn in the middle of the road causing Williams to crash into the right back door of the Polo. Mr Williams sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Swakopmund State hospital where he was certified dead upon his arrival. The driver of the Polo and her passenger escaped unharmed. A charge of culpable homicide and negligent or reckless driving was laid. Williams was an employee of Rössing at the timer of his passing. The next of kin of the deceased were informed.

Alvinus Ganeb (25), appeared on a charge of housebreaking with intent to steal and theft. The matter was postponed to 28 January for plea and trial. The accused is on bail of N$1 000. Johannes Hamutenya (38), appeared on a charge of housebreaking with intent to steal and theft. The matter was postponed to 5 November for fixing of trial date. The accused remains in custody.
Missing man Sharlien Tjambari
It is alleged that Mr Joel Araeb, (77) a resident of Hakhaseb Location in Usakos, went missing last week Wednesday at around 11:00. Araeb allegedly told his wife that he was going to his daughter's house at the Saamstaan suburb, but he did not reach his daughter's home and his whereabouts is unknown. “According to the family he suffers from hypertension. The wife cannot remember how he was dressed. There is no photo available at this stage” said the Erongo regional crime investigating coordinator Erastus Iikuyu. He further said the search for the Araeb is active but to no success at this moment in time. · In another unrelated incident, an adult allegedly had sexual intercourse with a 12-year-old girl without her consent in Omdel location, Henties Bay. The incident took place last week. The suspect is known but is still on the run. Investigations continue.

Caught red handed illegally dumping waste Eileen van der Schyff Pictures emerged over the weekend of a Walvis Bay resident sim-ply dumping his household waste behind the Narraville stadium in the dunes. The driver of this SUV was caught red handed on Saturday doing his weekly dumping and contributing to Walvis Bay's general problem with dumping. A member of the public who took these photos told namib times the people dumping are not residents of the area where the dumping takes place. She went on to say: “The dumpers come with cars full of household rubbish as well as building rubble.” Another woman told the namib times in a telephone interview yesterday morning: “Our area is becoming an eye-sore and when the wind blows, the rubbish are swept back onto the neighbourhood. Our children can't even play in those dunes anymore.”
This vehicle is believed to be linked to the dumping incident. The registration number was handed to the Walvis Bay municipal traffic department for further investigation.

Fourth whale stranding
This Humpback whale stranded near Dolphin Beach in the early hours of Friday, leaving marine researchers puzzled as to the cause. In the last few days a total of four Humpbacks stranded - one at LĂźderitz, one near Henties Bay and in the past two weeks alone two strandings in the Walvis Bay area. The whale was still alive by Friday mid-morning, but sadly died later in the day. A large volume of small fish also washed ashore at Langstrand over the weekend, with many believing now that negative oceanic conditions might be at the root of the whale strandings and the scores of dead fish washing ashore.

Swakopmund Oktoberfest Povanhu, the organiser of the event is proud of the turn out as it allows them to continue the good work the do in the community. The Hotel's restaurant runs a soup kitchen for children and learners from schools such as Coastal High School in Swakopmund, as well as other disadvantaged children.

The Swakopmund Oktoberfest was held at the Strand Hotel at their Brewer and Butcher this past weekend. With beer tastings and traditional German food, it turned out to be a fulfilling and exciting night. Guests were treated with a welcome beer upon arrival with a colourful ambience set by the
beautifully dressed waiters and waitresses. A tour of the mini brewery proved both beneficial and informative with a tour of the facility and step by step explanation of the brewing process.
Glen Uahindua, a beer connoisseur at the event detailed the exciting process of extraction, heating and cooling involved in the beer making process. The result of this is the Marzen beer. A
special brew (Madarina weissbier) and the Helles beer add to the selection. In addition, a gorgeous buffet with locally produced varieties coupled the night well with music from a DJ Hilde

Rain exposes the ugly side of Namibia Teacher sexually harasses learners via Whatsapp – found guilty and fired Letter written to Permanent Secretary of Education to blacklist teacher from ever teaching at any Namibian school again. Parents of children who fell victim to this sex pest contemplating criminal charges against the teacher. A teacher of a well-known primary school at Walvis Bay will be blacklisted from ever teaching at any school in Namibia in the future, following his dismissal at this particular school earlier this week for sexual harassment, gross dishonesty and non-compliance with procedure. The charges stem among others from this particular teacher's inappropriate communications with minor girls via social media platform Whatsapp. Parents who spoke to namib times on condition of anonymity said they want parents to take notice that Whatsapp is one of the most dangerous avenues sex pests use to exploit children. The teacher was appointed at the school in January this year. Soon after he started it was discovered he introduced a personalised greeting system for the children attending his classes. That included him giving hugs to all the girls and the boys were greeted by handshake and other forms of hand greetings. As it was deemed in-appropriate the teacher was soon reprimanded by the school principal. Then it was discovered the teacher arranged for a private meeting with one of the girls to assist her with a subject she had difficulty with. He was once again reprimanded and reminded that the school's standard procedure for extra classes only to be presented by male teaching staff when learners are in a group. The final straw came when several parents reported to the school the teacher had contact with their children by Whatsapp and many of the messages were of a sexual nature. The teacher throughout maintained he kept his distance from the children. During September the teacher was suspended and disciplinary action was taken against him with the charge being sexual harassment, gross dishonesty and non-compliance with procedure. On the day of his disciplinary hearing the teacher failed to turn up. He allegedly phoned the principal and offered to resign. He was informed this request cannot be entertained, due to the serious nature of the allegations against him. The proceedings were postponed to a new date. On this new date the teacher again contacted the school and said he is not available and disciplinary inquiry can continue in his absence. He was found guilty on all charges on 24 September and he was dismissed. In a letter dated 28 September the school principal directed a letter to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture, Sanet Steenkamp. In this letter the principal provided a synopsis of the events that led to the teacher's dismissal and a request was also made to the Permanent Secretary for this teacher to be blacklisted, never to teach at any Namibian school again. ¡A parent who opts to remain anonymous yesterday confirmed criminal charges against this teacher might follow soon.

The rain that fell over large parts of Erongo this week made for the most beautiful sights for road users. However, there were also an ugly side exposed – rubbish and litter that drifted in the large water puddles that formed next to the roads. Mogamat Salie Saban, a truck operator, sent in these photos he took of plastic bottles and plastic bags being washed along flowing rivers and floating in the rain puddles. These photos were taken between Swakopmund and Arandis. Saban expresses his utter disgust in the amount of rubbish in our beautiful desert. Saban said to namib times it is really an eyesore and wants to bring more awareness to people in the Erongo Region about keeping our desert clean. Specifically, road users who fling bottles, plastic bags and other litter out car windows. Many don't clean up after using roadside resting spots and this presents an unsightly image of Namibia in the advent of the holiday season when tens of thousands of visitors will be flocking to Namibia. Distinguished Concerts International New York City (DCINY) announced today that Wilna Liebenberg and the Cgals Chamber Choir has been invited to participate in a performance of Zimbe! by Alexander L'Estrange on the DCINY Concert Series in New York City. This performance is planned to take place on Friday, May 24, 2019 in Isaac Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall under the baton of Composer/Conductor Alexander L'Estrange. These outstanding musicians will join with other choristers from around the world to form the Distinguished Concerts Singers International, a choir of distinction. Alexander L'Estrange will serve as conductor of the performance and clinician for the residency. Why the invitation was extended Dr. Jonathan Griffith, Artistic Director and Principal Conductor for DCINY states: “The Cgals Chamber Choir received this invitation because of the quality and high level of musicianship demonstrated by the singers as well as the exceptional quality of their audition recording. “It is quite an honor just to be invited to perform in New York. These wonderful musicians not only represent a high quality of music and education, but they also become ambassadors for the entire community. This is an event of extreme pride for everybody and deserving of the community's recognition and support.” The singers will spend 4 days and 3 nights in New York City in preparation for their concert. “The singers will spend approximately 9-10 hours in rehearsals over the 4 day residency.” says Griffith, “Not all of the time is spent in rehearsals, since there is so much history and culture to see in New York City.
