Branch Executive Members of the Western Region Walvis Bay branch of the Namibia Food and Allied Workers Union (Nafau) threatens to close down its branch office indefinitely by noon today, should the General Secretary of Nafau, Jacob Penda, not answer on allegations of unfair treatment, in-timidation, exploitation, favouritism and abuse.

Central to this growing dispute are two branch organisers of Nafau in Walvis Bay, Hiskia Tylius and Ronald Hamukwaya. Penda allegedly favours Tylius, to such an extent apparently, he provided him (Tylius) with a vehicle. To the contrary Penda allegedly holds a grudge against Hamukwaya and has instituted disciplinary procedures against him in order to get rid of him. Jacob is allegedly also disregarding Nafau standards and rules and acts without authority of the Union's National Executive Committee. Don’t close Langstrand beaches - residents Piquet Jacobs
Members of the public were adamant on Wednesday night that residents of Langstrand cannot “privatise” the beaches of this suburb, and for the municipality to allow people unhindered access to popular beach picnic spots in the area. The municipality of Walvis Bay organised a public meeting that took place at the Narraville Community Hall on Wednesday night to get the input from the general public. The municipality will utilise these inputs together with those of Langstrand residents who are concerned about vehicles having free entry to beach areas. Residents at Langstrand remain divided over the issue of beach access. Some are against barriers to prevent vehicles entering beach areas near popular picnic spots. Others are Continues on page 2

Time Change Namibians must adjust the time on their watches one hour back on Sunday in order to revert to winter time. Since 1994 Namibia operates on summer (GMT+2) and winter time (GMT+1). Winter time officially starts on the first Sunday of April of every year and summer time starts on the first Sunday of September of every year. In 2016 the Minister of Home Affairs Mrs Pendukeni Iivula-Ithana asked for countrywide consultations to determine whether Namibia should do away with the current summer and winter time and revert back to the pre-20 March 1994 standard of GMT+2. At the conclusion of the consultation process, Minister Iivula-Ithana in February this year tabled the Namibian Time Bill in the National Assembly. Once enacted it would replace the Time Act of 1994. Soon after the law making processed commenced in the National Assembly, the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture expressed concerns over the proposed new standard time for Namibia, as it would mean the country's hundreds of thousands of school learners risk walking or cycling to school in darkness. The National Assembly proposed the time extended on the matter of doing away with winterand summer time and a special committee was appointed to study the matter further. On Tuesday of this week Minister Iivula-Ithana informed the nation from the floor of the National Assembly that Namibia [for now?] would continue to operate on the Namibian Time Act of 1994 meaning adjusting the clocks one hour back at one minute past midnight on Sunday to winter time. workers' rights and interest at all times as per NAFAU's constitution, but now the General Secretary has made it a habit to fight against us. We cannot work in such a harsh and hostile environment. He made it a habit to immediately after the congress to write to the staff on a daily basis and disciplinary hearings are a basic thing here in NAFAU. He is undermining the work of us shop steward's with manipulative behaviour and mannerisms, favouritism, nepotism, selfishness and conflict of interest. There is maladministration, mismanagement, making illegal decisions and imposing them on the staff. The General Secretary Jacob Penda is doing one-sided things. For instance to come to Walvis Bay branch and give a car privately to Cde Hiskia, without informing the branch about it. That is despite the branch executives the ones to control the
affairs of the union here. Some of these branch organisers are his favourites and the other staff in the office are not given any information. The general secretary recruited employees to his favour, without any mandate from the National Executive Committee. Interviews were conducted on 27 March 2017. On the same day people were given contracts to sign and induction done the same day at 3pm. To our surprise we learned about the two members that came to the branch to get the information the from branch how they have to come work in our branch without our knowledge. We learned the General Secretary is having personal grudges against our branch organiser. He is forcing him to go for a disciplinary hearing to Windhoek, because he wants to fire him. We advised him to with draw the case because it is unfair, unpro-cedural and unconstitutional. Note: for your information Cde Hamukwaya is employed by the Walvis Bay Branch and only we are authorised
by policy to institute disciplinary action. We want to draw your attention to the Administrative Policy of NAFAU and to the Disciplinary and Grievance Procedures Part 3, clause 3.2 (i) In a situation where a disciplinary enquiry is being initiated against a branch employee, the branch executive committee shall be the initiator. (ii)The branch Executive is authorized to choose the initiator amongst themselves. (iii) The Branch Executive is authorised to seek an independent Chairperson of choice. The disciplinary hearing proceedings do in our opinion answer to procedural fairness within the meaning of Section 33 (1) of the Labour Act. There was perceived bias on the side of the Chairperson, Abiud Tjipangandjara of the initial disciplinary hearing. This Abiud Tjipangandjara is a deputy President of NAFAU who is misleading us as workers and used to dismiss workers unfairly. He must remember that he is a worker too. NAFAU procedures were fatally flawed, as
there was a cogent rationale that the Chairperson is biased. We advised the General Secretary to withd r a w t h e c h a rg e s against our branch organiser. Failing to do so, we decided to close the office and we will take the car and park it at the police station until our problems are rectified. It is our right and it's our money which has been misused by this
leadership of NAFAU. Cde Hamkukwaya the branch organizer is not going to attend the hearing in Windhoek, because it is unprocedural and unconstitutional. Also, the information we requested the General Secretary and his team to provide never materialised. During the meeting of 16th February 2017 at the NAFAU boardroom in Walvis Bay, his
team who were present at the so-called disciplinary hearing were requested to for-ward the NEC minutes also never materia-lised. Therefore, with that the reasoning is you plan clearly to get rid of him. We believe this amounts to constructive dismissal of Cde Hamukwaya. We need a response on Friday, 31 March 2017 time 12pm.”

We as locals frequenting Langstrand for leisure are well mannered and there has not been a single incident where any local injured someone with a vehicle whilst picnicking at Langstrand, one resident explained on the sideline after the meeting to elaborate on the issue of Langstrand residents claiming “outsiders” are causing the trouble. Many opinions and concerns were heard by council members present on Wednesday night, including Municipality General Manager of Roads and Building Control, André Burger, and Manager for Community Development, Piet van Niekerk. Suggestions have been made. It was clear from the comments by Walvis Bay residents at the meeting they don't want the beaches closed for vehicle access to popular spots. Council, the public was informed, will take in consideration all the comments made at the meeting, and come up with reasonable solutions before having another public meeting regarding the matter.
Pedestrian killed on B2 near Walvis Bay town entrance Piquet Jacobs
Shihangeni Pius (32) was hit and killed by a car on the B2 coastal road on Tuesday evening at 17:00. The accident was close to Walvis Bay's city entrance. It brings the total road fatalities in Erongo to 6 for the week. Pius disembarked from a vehicle which transported him from his workplace. He attempted to cross the B2 to walk to his home in Kuisebmond, but was hit by an oncoming vehicle. Due to the nature of his injuries, Pius died at the scene. An ambulance that raced to the scene was too late to save his life. The driver of the vehicle that hit Pius is believed to be a Zambian national. He faces charges of culpable homicide and reckless and/or negligent driving. The police investigates the incident. “We need pedestrians and drivers to be cautious on the road. We urge pedestrians to properly ascertain whether it is safe to cross a road or street. Drivers need to be on the lookout for pedestrians and keep to speed limits”, reacted Deputy Commissioner Ottilie Kashuupulwa of the Namibian Police on the incident. This particular stretch of road is notorious for pedestrian deaths. An 8 year old girl was hit by a car in February after she attempted to cross the road near the 'Welcome to Walvis Bay' sign, resulting in a fractured leg.

Security guard who was assaulted now jobless and needs to undergo surgery Sharlien Tjambari
Fillemon Haufiku, a security guard who was assaulted by his supervisor, Gerson Seibeb recently is now jobless and has to undergo surgery. He believes he suffers from a torn eardrum and the assault left him with broken teeth. Haufiku was allegedly assaulted for daring to inquire over his salary which was not paid for two months. He was employed at ASST Security Company for close to eight months. His salary was not paid, because the company where Haufiku was carrying out guard duties, Safari Projects, has allegedly not settled their security bill with ASST. As a result, ASST could not honour its salary payments to Haufiku. According to Haufiku on the day of the assault, he was called by his boss to meet him at Safari Projects. They were to go and ask the owner of Safari Projects about the outstanding monies. After a long discussion between the boss of ASST Security Services, Seibeb, and the owner of Safari Projects matters took a turn for the worst. Seibeb allegedly suddenly just turned around and started accusing Haufiku of arson. He claimed Haufiku was the one who tried to burn down his shack and other threats over the salary which was owed to him. Seibeb allegedly started beating and kicking Haufiku and demanded he should admit to trying to burn down his shack. Haufiku refused as he is innocent. Haufiku explained he was attending church functions the whole weekend. The police regional crime investigations co-ordinator for Erongo, Deputy Commissioner Ottilie Kashuupulwa, this week confirmed that Haufiku was not the one who tried burning down Seibeb's shack. Haufiku has up to now not been paid his salaries in arrears. He was asked to vacate the place he lived as he was in arrears with his rent. Haufiku also quit his job and says he is now tired of always having to beg his boss for his salary. Haufiku further said he is waiting for his turn for surgery in Windhoek. In the meantime, it was confirmed Seibeb pleaded guilty on a charge of assault in the Swakopmund magistrates court and was fined N$1000.
The four in head-on collision on B2 identified The names of four members of the same family, a mother and three of her children, who died in a car crash near Arandis on Monday have been released. The Namibian Police released the names as: Hilde Antonio Doeses (34), Chansie S Doeses (12-year old girl), Rashida Doeses (9-year old girl) and Oabasen Doeseb (2-year old boy). Details of the cause of the accident remain sketchy. The police could only confirm it was a head-on collision. Preliminary reports indicate the driver of a Volkswagen Polo lost control over his vehicle. The vehicle overturned and skid across the tarmac, slamming head-on into a red Nissan pick-up. The accident took place about five kilometres east of Arandis at 04:30 on Monday. The impact was so severe the Polo apparently “rolled� over the pick-up instantly killing the four occupants, who were sitting on the back of the pick-up. The driver of the Nissan pick-up was identified as Hendrick (Hansie) Doeseb (38), the husband and father of the deceased. Doeseb was seriously injured and is recovering in the Roman Catholic Hospital in Windhoek. Another survivor is 12-year old Shaun Haraseb. The boy was also critically injured and has been admitted to the Cottage Medi-Clinic at Swakopmund. A baby girl of two months old, Rashika Almira Doeses, survived the accident without injuries and was discharged from the hospital on Monday. With her father still in critical condition she was released into the care of her grandmother. The driver of the Polo, who was the sole occupant, was identified as Leonard Shipopyeni Martin (34). He too is in a critical condition and has also been admitted to the Roman Catholic Hospital in Windhoek.

The matter was postponed to 14 June for lab results. The accused is on bail of N$4 000. Neville Roman (25) appeared on a charge of rape. The matter was postponed to 28 June for prosecutor general's decision. The accused is on bail of N$2 000. Jason Jason (22), a fifteen-year-old boy and Mika Nekwaya (18) appeared on a charge of rape. The matter was postponed to 12 April for juvenile screening. The accused remains in custody.

MOD employee still missing Piquet Jacobs
A resident of Kuisebmond Mr Johannes Panduleni Shikomba (40), who is classified as missing by the Namibian Police, is apparently making regular posts on facebook and is messaging his family that he is alive and well. The police recently tasked the media to assist tracing Shikomba. Shikomba, an employee of the Ministry of Defence at Rooikop military base at Walvis Bay allegedly informed a family member that he would be relocating to Windhoek, but has not been seen or heard from since 28 February.
Independence celebrations at Spitzkoppe Piquet Jacobs
The Erongo Regional Council hosts the Region's 27th Independence celebrations at Spitzkoppe tomorrow. The national independence celebrations took place at Rundu on 21 March. The proceedings commence at 08:30 with a march and a brass band. It will be followed by various traditional performances and local entertainment. Community- and political leaders of the Region are expected to attend. “The purpose of hosting regional independence celebrations is to bring this most important annual even for Namibia closer to the people. For many citizens it is impossible to attend the main event, thus the opportunity is created to attend the regional event�, the Regional Council explains. President Hage Geingob's independence message will be shared by the Governor of Erongo Clr Cleopas Mutjivikua. Community leaders will have the opportunity to talk about regional achievements and aspirations.
Number of abortions worrisome Piquet Jacobs
During 2016 a total number of 7335 abortions have been recorded in Namibia by the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS). An alarming 7197 of these abortions were backdoor or illegal abortions. Only 138 were performed legally at State facilities. This information was made public by the Minister of Health and Social Services Dr Bernard Haufiku, at the bi-monthly conference on the state of health in Namibia. Dr Haufiku expressed his utmost concern over the sheer number of illegal abortions and the fact these numbers are rising. Unsafe abortions are a huge risk to the life and mental condition of women. Statistics show the greater number of women who have undergone abortions are aged 25 and younger. Abortions are illegal in Namibia under the Abortion and SteriliSation Act (1975), as amended through Act 48 of 1982. Legal abortions at an approved medical facility by a medical practitioner are allowed under special circumstances. These circumstances include when a pregnancy threatens the life of the expectant mother, where the foetus' life is at risk or in the event of pregnancy as a result of rape. The after effects of illegal abortions can be detected in instances where women seek medical assistance for heavy bleeding or untreated infections. It remains difficult though to distinguish between spontaneous abortions or induced abortions. Dr Haufiku at the meeting said the time has come for an open debate over this social evil. Solutions must be seeked without delay. One of the possible solutions to be studied is to decriminalise abortion.
Then the missing man recently posted from his facebook page he is alive and well. He also sent a cellphone message from his cell number to relatives, explaining they should not worry. Family members struggle to believe that Shikomba is indeed the person who sent the message or wrote the facebook post. Shikomba is still not answering any calls, and no one has an idea of where he could
be. Anyone with information should contact Detective Warrant Officer Nghiteeka at 081 149 6266, Detective Sergeant Simon at 081 348 9619 or his brother, Godfried Iinyemba at 081 220 7010. ¡Given standard military disciplinary procedures, it is also a strong possibility now that the Military Police is also looking for Shikomba.

Vehicle accident claims another well known resident of Walvis Bay The Walvis Bay community is once more reeling in shock and disbelief after another well known resident died in a vehicle accident over the weekend. Mrs Vanessa Erasmus, an organiser of the annual Namport Erongo Business and Tourism was killed on Saturday afternoon when the vehicle in which she was a passenger overturned on the B2 between Karibib and Usakos. The vehicle was driven by her husband Mr Joey Erasmus. He lost control of the vehicle when he had to swerve out to prevent a collision with an oncoming truck. No bail for woman who left infant alone at home - causing his death The woman who is accused of having left her 5 month old baby boy unattended at her home in Kuisebmond, which lead to the infant's death, has been identified as Natasha Hipose (29). Hipose made a first appearance in the Walvis Bay magistrates court on Friday. She faces a charge of culpable homicide. No bail was granted. Oil in chips fryer cause of Nando’s fire Chaos erupted at Nandos Afro-Portuguese chain restaurant in Walvis Bay on Wednesday afternoon after a fire broke out in the kitchen area. It is believed that the fire started after cooking oil in a chip frying
machine ignited. The Walvis Bay Fire Brigade rushed to the scene and managed to get the fire under control. Significant smoke and heat damage was caused to the shop.

Hoe kan ons verkeersowerheid so iets toelaat?” het die inwoner gevra. “Dit is nou reeds ‘n paar weke sedert beriggewing in namib times dit ‘n bekende feit gemaak het dat soutvragmotors 5de Weg met groot hoeveelhede soutwater besoedel. Deels omdat die sout wat hulle karwei nie ordentlik gedroog is nie.
Walvis Bay Salt Refiners het dit onlangs erken en gesê daar word iets aan die saak gedoen”, het die inwoner verduidelik. Hy het daarop aangedring dat die aangeleentheid as ‘n saak van dringendheid hanteer word, want die soutwater gaan die teeroppervlakke opbreek en die belastingbetaler sal dit moet ontgeld.

Richard Allen A.M.E Kiddies Day Care Centre has a total of 20 children of which 7 children are between two to 3 years and 13 children are between the ages of three to four year. LHU's Corporate and Community Relations Superintendent, Ms. Bernadette Bock the reason why LHU decided to donate the computer after a request by the Centre in this regard. “They approached us and requested for a computer which they said they explained they need for administration purposes. We had an extra computer at the office we did not use and felt it would be better utilised at the Centre. We also understand the important role the Centre play in parents' lives, as they want the best for their kids. The head of the day care centre Mrs Sofia Gurubes said she is very thankful for the assistance LHU has given. “Filing will now be easier and faster”, she summed it up.
World Autism Day Awareness Day on 2 April Sharoldine Bock According to recent statistic (March 2016) one in 42 boys and one in 189 girls are diagnosed with some form of Autism. To raise awareness, the Autism Namibia Association – Coastal branch and the community will be hosting World Autism Day on 02April in Swakopmund, at the popular restaurant Bits 'n Pizza owned by Lee and Cindy Roberts. This is the second consecutive year the event is hosted by the Roberts' at their business. Parents of individuals with Autism, family and friends are welcome to join in the activities, which starts at 16:00. Blue is the colour of Autism Awareness Worldwide. We are inviting all people at the coast to come and support this great fundraiser, wear blue outfits and do bring along your purses for donations. Information about Autism will be available at the pizzeria, to create more awareness and more acceptance of Autism. There might be a few shops and buildings shining blue
lights prominently in the town. This is part of the awareness campaign. “Light it up blue”. Feel free to join the move this April! Last year, April 2nd, Bits 'n Pizza hosted for the 1st time the activities for the World Autism Awareness Day. The venue was beautifully decorated with blue balloons, blue candles and the staff wore blue shirts. The evening was well supported by parents, family and friends and of course by guests of Bits 'n Pizza. All donations collected during that evening with addition to the donations received in the past were used to support Stepping Stone School catering for special needs learners; as well as to support Horse Tales, life skills horse-riding sessions offered by Mrs Liske Hays. This year, all proceeds collected by
Bits 'n Pizza with the pizza sales on 2 April will be donated to Autism Namibia - Coastal Branch. Donations and money generated by this effort and other fundraisers throughout April 2017 will be utilised to support the start of the grand project to build an Autism Centre planned by 'Stepping Stone School'. In 2013 Namibia officially adopted the policy of inclusion of Special Needs children: aiming at giving each and every Namibian child the right to go

Namibia still has long way to go to offer good quality education for our special needs children within the schools. The opening of the heated pool of BRG Biokinetics in Walvis Bay Sharoldine Bock
The heated pool of BRG Biokinetics Inc in Walvis Bay was officially opened on 24 March, primarily aimed at the treatment of orthopaedic- and paralysed patients. BRG Bikinetics opened its doors in Walvis Bay in 2007. Initially it occupied a premises next to the ABC Pharmacy, and in 2012 located to the current premises at the Welwitschia MediPark. It was a proud moment for BRG Biokinetics when the rehabilitation pool was finally commissioned last Friday. The pool is the first of its kind for Walvis Bay. Lee- Anne Strydom, a Director of BRG Biokinietics explained treatment in the heated pool aids in achieving better co-ordination, increases blood flow, stimulates the muscles and enables better joint stability. BRG Biokinetics also caters for one-on-one orthopaedic sessions, RIPPED-classes (Resistance, Intervals, Power, Plyometrics, Endurance and Diet), general body conditioning, weight loss exercises and aqua aerobics. Their main objective is to assist patients to recover from injuries or who suffer from physical disabilities and to offer them a healthier and more comfortable lifestyle. BRG Biokinetics is committed to quality service and is looking at expanding its footprint of biokinetic rehabilitation centres in Namibia. BRG Biokinetics also has branches at Swakopmund and Windhoek. Whereas in June, they wish to start RIPPED competitions to stimulate interest. The last Friday was opened by prayer by Dr. H. Boshoff as well as a few welcome remarks. Mr. T. Boshoff then provided an overview of the services provided by BRG Biokinetics Inc and the network within which it operates. BRG Biokinetics Inc assists with the rehabilitation of patients who recover from injuries from vehicle accidents or other accidents that lead to physical injury. It also assists patients who recover from surgery. BRG Biokinetics proudly regards itself as a leader in its field and also has a track record of ploughing back in the communities. It often provides its services for free at sport events. Strydom offered a scripture reading from Psalm 127:1, “Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labour in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain”. With this she emphasised that without God as the prior focus, dreams won't become a reality. That is the theme they plan to use this year. Mr. Tobias Nambala represented the Mayor of Walvis Bay and had the honour of cutting the ribbon to mark the official opening of the treatment pool. Demonstrations were then held with two Motor Vehicle Accident Fund referred patients. BRG is excited about the pool and is sure it would make a difference in the lives of many people.

ta-Theater angekettet. Sie knipsten die Kette durch, trugen den Wagen die Treppe zum Kino hinauf und stellten ihn einfach vor der Kinotür ab, während wir ahnungslos oben auf der Empore saßen. Da wurde übrigens kräftig geraucht, denn das Rauchen im Kino

Liebe Küstenleser! Vor einiger Zeit schaute ich mir mit ein paar jungen Leuten in den 20ern das US-amerikanische Filmdrama von Woody Allen Blue Jasmine an. In dem pessimistisch angehauchten Film geht es um den finanziellen und sozialen Abstieg der einstigen High-Society-Lady Jasmin Francis. Jedes Verhältnis in dem Film, ob nun mit Schwestern,

An der Atlantikküste,in der Namibwüste Bemerkungen zum Problem der globalen Erderwärmung Per Zufall lernte ich den Flugmeteorologen Dr. Manfred Reiber und seine Frau Annelies in Swakopmund kennen. Der Wetterspezialist, der ein Studium der Meteorologie an der Karl Marx Universität Leipzig absolviert hat, konnte es sich als versierter Wissenschaftler nicht verkneifen, mich aufzuklären. Er hatte im 5. Locker-vom-Hockerband nämlich meine persönliche, völlig unwissenschaftliche Sichtweise über den Klimawandel gelesen, die da lautete, dass die früher wohltuende Sonnenwärme heute zum Höllenfeuer geworden ist bzw. dass die Sonne heißer wird. Nicht nur die Menschen in den hochentwickelten Ländern der Welt haben das Recht ein Auto zu besitzen und täglich ein Schnitzel (Methan) zu essen…auch die Chinesen, Inder und alle anderen möchten so leben. Das heißt aber, wenn wir so weiter machen, entsteht immer mehr Kohlendioxid, Methan, Lachgas usw. . Das Problem ist also längst noch nicht gelöst und es wird verdammt schwierig, weil die Zeit „davonläuft" und die Erde mit unumkehrbaren Reaktionen antworten kann!”

Ford Expands Safety Recall to Fiesta ST Ford South Africa today announced it has voluntarily expanded the safety recall for the 1.6-litre GTDi engine to include the Ford Fiesta ST. In the affected vehicles, a lack of coolant circulation could cause an engine to overheat, resulting in a crack in the cylinder head. A cracked cylinder head can result in a pressurized oil leak. Oil that comes into contact with a hot engine surface increases the risk of a fire in the engine compartment. In South Africa, the expanded safety recall includes approximately 1,078 Fiesta ST models produced between September 2012 and December 2014. "The safety of our customers is our top priority, and the expansion of the safety recall is being rolled out as a precautionary measure on the Fiesta S T, " s a i d J e f f Nemeth, President
and CEO, Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa. The Fiesta ST models will receive hardware and software upgrades, which include the fitment of a coolant level sensor with supporting hardware and software changes at no charge to the customer. The necessary parts are expected to be available by the fourth quarter, and customers will be informed when they should book their vehicle in for the repair. Customers can continue to drive their vehicles, but should visit their Ford dealer if their vehicle exhibits a coolant leak, overheating or frequently needs coolant added. Customers should continue to check
their vehicles coolant levels and can refer to their owner's manual for instructions on how to check their coolant level and what to do if it is low. For any queries or concerns, customers can contact

Namibian National team makes it big in the Jungle war VIII
Arandis to host first women football tournament for the year in their town Sharlien Tjambari
This weekend in Arandis, Kavetu Arandis Community Gym will be hosting a women soccer tournament which goes by the name of Kavetu Arandis Community Gym Cup 2017. The games will take place at Arandis Sports Ground on 1 April, this weekend. The Manager of Kavetu Arandis Community Gymnasium as well as the coach of Kavetu Football Club in Arandis, Prof K Muvangwa said the tournament is hosted to promote the gym as Kavetu FC umbrella and it is organised for the community of Arandis to come together. “We are also hosting this tournament to promote women football at large, to enhance capacity building and to develop the game of football for the women in Erongo” Muvangua added. According to him, a total of eight teams are participating in the tournament, the host team which is Kavetu FC, teams from Swakop-
mund which will take part are African Queens, Dream Team, Java Java, Dragon City, Namib Daughters and a Team from Da-Palm Junior Secondary School from Otjimbingwe will also join the tournament this time. The draw will take place on Saturday morning at the Sport Ground in Arandis. There will be a trophy up for grabs which is sponsored by the gym and all medals are sponsored by Erongo Red. Muvangwa also said there will be money for the first runner-up and second runner-up. “I urge the public and the business community to start supporting sport activities, especially women football” Muvangua concluded.

Two Walvis Bay rugby players in Hong Kong Sevens team Brothers Jean- and Lloyd to keep Walvis Bay Rugby Club’s name Sharoldine Bock high in Hong Kong Namibia’s Sevens Rugby team concluded a training camp at Swakopmund and will participate in the Hong Kong Sevens Tournament from 7 to 9 April this year. Two team members include rugby players from Walvis Bay Rugby Club, the brothers Jean (Jr) Jacobs and Lloyd Jacobs. The Namibian Sevens team will be competing against eleven teams in Hong Kong - the winner to qualify for the HSBC World Series’ 2017/18 season. Namibia and Uganda are the only two teams from Africa competing. The team leaves for Hong Kong this weekend. The Namibian Sevens team is: Jean Jacobs, Shareave Titus, Martin Cronjè, Lèan Stoop, Handrè Bezuidenhout, George Niehaus, Nandivatu Karuuombe, Janry Du Toit, Ricardo Swartz, Lloyd Jacobs, Cliven Loubster and Helarius Kisting. Namibian Navy shows Russian Navy a thing or two in soccer and volleyball Sharoldine Bock
They might be one of the mightiest naval forces on the planet, but the Russian Navy has to accept the Namibian Navy’s soccer- and volleyball teams are to be reckoned with. When the Russian Navy recently made a historic courtesy call to the Port of Walvis Bay, sailors competed in a soccer and volleyball match against the Namibian Navy’s teams. The matches were played last Sunday (26 March) at the Kuisebmond Soccer Stadium. The local community turned out in their numbers to support. The Namibians stood their ground firmly. Namibian Navy won the soccer match 4-2 and the volleyball saw the visitors bowing out 3-0. “Thank you for the good sportsmanship and we really enjoyed your company. Thank you also to the local support from spectators”.
