According to this family member it was then that Dr. Shaker paraded the woman through the hospital to apologise. The doctor who initially treated the woman replied: “you must publish in the newspaper that you told lies”. Since this text message, namib times made several attempts on email and by phone calls to get in contact with Dr. Shaker. There is confusion over the matter: Dr. Shaker nor the public relations department of the hospital provided any reply as to the status of the investigation into the matter. Yet, the woman was forced to apologise. In the meantime, the woman’s family also replied with a text message to namib times: “My family requested that we leave the matter”. Although she thanked namib times she said they now want peace. Dr. Shaker reacted to questions and further allegations by the woman yesterday afternoon: “I met the patient, asked her for her side of the story and told her I want to help her. I did not force the patient to apologise to the hospital staff. I tried to make peace between her and the doctor. I never forced her. I did this for the reason that the patient might need medical help again and I won't be around, so my thoughts were to make peace between the patient and the hospital staff involved. Her wound was already open when she came into the hospital, the doctor did not open the wound. When she arrived, it was open and oozing puss. When the doctor started to clean the patient's wound, the patient started to feel the pain. When the patient was asked if they can administer anaesthetics, the patient refused. Her husband was there and even he pleaded with the patient that she must please allow the doctor to give her the anaesthetic. She just refused anaesthesia to be injected around the wound. As a Director I would like to know what is behind all these stories in the newspaper. Is someone paying this woman to tell lies?”

The little girl’s murder and mutilation plunged the country in shock and disbelief. Theft of forklift one arrested The Namibian Police this week arrested a 26-year old Walvis Bay resident in connection with the theft of a forklift early on Sunday morning. Edwin Pearson (picture) on Wednesday made a first appearance in the Walvis Bay magistrates court in connection with the incident and was released on bail of N$6000. Pearson returns to court on 4 September where he will formally enter a plea.

Transport needed for rescued penguins to be released Eileen van der Schyff
The four newly rescued penguins that were found two weeks ago between Sandwich Harbour and Walvis Bay are ready to be released into the wild. The four penguins were cleaned from oil, and fed and were recuperating at the residence of Mr Boorman and Dr. Dantu, who run a halfway house for penguins in Swakopmund. Wild Thing, Private, Curious George and James Penguin 007 need to be transported to Luderitz where they will be released at Halifax Island. Mr. Boorman and Dr. Dantu request readers who are traveling to Luderitz to please help by taking one, two or all four penguins with for their release. They have their own travel boxes. Council Acts swiftly to Report of Unfinished House The Swakopmund municipality has reacted swiftly to complaints about the unfinished house in Tamariskia. In a report, the building inspector Larry Mwikanda said, "Indeed the uncompleted house is being used by some hobos as a shelter". A letter has been sent from the department instructing the owners to tidy up and secure the premises. Although the building stood in this state for a couple of years, the Standard Building Regulation is silent, hence a period of completion cannot be stipulated. Mwikanda states further in his report that, "some people do build out of their own pocket, which might prolong the construction period. "Adding that should the construction process become dormant, the owner may be required to hire security to watch the premises. Clearing out hideouts and securing premises still under construction, is pertinent as these spots later become run down and uninhabitable due to abuse by miscreants.

Swaco Namibia adopts new rhino calf
Save the Rhino Trust (SRT) has the pleasure to announce not only the birth of an adorable new rhino calf, but also that Swaco Group Namibia has recommitted to helping secure a future for the world's last truly wild black rhino population. Their generous contribution includes the sponsorship of a rhino and calf for one year at N$42, 300 and uniforms for a tracker team to the amount of N$18, 240. The team at Swaco named the new calf Themba meaning "trust". Swaco Group Namibia supports initiatives aimed at promoting greater national environmental responsibility which makes Themba's name a perfect fit. Swaco's symbolic adoption of Themba covers the cost of monitoring and protecting mother and calf through individual identification for the next year. Ms Maxi Louis, Save the Rhino Trust's Chairperson, expressed her gratitude for the contribution and challenged other Namibians to join the fight to help secure the future of Namibia's rhino. Unusual visitor to the port of Walvis Bay
The port of Walvis Bay hosts a rather unusual vessel on 16 September this year. The SVS Guardsman, described as a fast support intervention, crew supply and guard ship, will call at the port of Walvis Bay to link up with a seismic research vessel which will also arrive in the same period. It would then go out to sea with the seismic vessel to render services as a guard vessel in the event of any emergencies.

Bank Windhoek advises on fraud Media Release
The Forensic Department at Bank Windhoek is receiving an increasing number of complaints from clients regarding individuals calling them and pretending to be officials from Bank Windhoek. Hayley Allen, Bank Windhoek's Head of Corporate Affairs
These individuals are fraudsters who direct unsuspecting clients to transfer funds to them via an Easy Wallet transfer. How they do it: The fraudsters call to inform clients that they are from Bank Windhoek and that they have either received funds or that they need to do a software or systems upgrade on their devices in order to gain access to the funds. The fraudsters will guide the client through an elaborate and complex process to activate the profile to receive the funds or to make the system upgrade in order to receive the funds. What is in fact happening is that the unsuspecting client is unknowingly being directed to make a transfer of funds via Cell Phone Banking or Internet Banking to the fraudster's Easy Wallet number. Bank Windhoek will never call a client or any other member of the public to receive funds, send funds or to release funds for any payments, including dividends or insurance premiums. An der Atlantikküste,in der Namibwüste Locker vom Hocker Frantz - ein Anti-Kriegsfilm und mehr... Fuchsmangusten haben Swakopmund (sk) In dem äußerst empfehlenswerten deutsch-französischen Film Frantz modernisiert der Regisseur François Ozon ein Thema, das schon Ernst Lubitsch adaptiert hat: Die Geschichte eines jungen Franzosen, der von Schuldgefühlen geplagt ist, weil er als Soldat im Ersten Weltkrieg einen Deutschen getötet hat. Ein Antikriegsfilm? Ja, auf jeden Fall, aber es steckt noch mehr dahinter... Hier folgt eine verkürzte Version der Kritik von Manfred Riepe über den im Jahre 2016 gedrehten Film: Der französische Soldat greift seinem deutschen Gegner von hinten über die Schulter. Nicht, um i h m d i e G u rg e l durchzuschneiden, sondern um zärtlich seinen Violinbogen zu führen. Die Umarmung der beiden Männer ist schmerzlich, weil der Zuschauer längst weiß, dass der Deutsche, Frantz, tot ist, gefallen auf dem Schlachtfeld des Ersten Weltkriegs. Allein die Sehnsucht des Franzosen erweckt ihn zum Leben. Musik statt Krieg... Der Film erzählt die Geschichte eines Franzosen, der den Blick jenes deutschen Soldaten nicht vergessen kann, den er im Schützengraben getötet hat. Auf seiner Reise in ein deutsches Kleinstädtchen sucht er Vergebung, wagt es aber nicht, den Eltern die Wahrheit zu sagen. Seine Notlügen bewirken bei dem verbitterten Vater, der in jedem Franzosen einen Mörder seines Sohnes sieht, jedoch ein Umdenken. Frantz' Vater lässt sich von Adriens erfundener Geschichte über seinen gefallenen Sohn das Herz erweichen für eine französischdeutsche Versöhnung. Den blutrünstigen Revanchisten

Liebe Küstenleser! Der Stadtmensch hat es ziemlich leicht, wenn es um die Beschaffung von Nahrungsmitteln zum Stillen seines Hungers geht. Ohne allzu großen Aufwand geht er in ein Lebensmittelgeschäft und kauft sich etwas zu essen, so er das nötige Kleingeld dazu hat. Ich habe eine Fuchsmanguste in der Kalahari beobachtet, die sich ihr Mahl wahrlich verdienen musste. Mit ihren fünf kräftigen, nicht einziehbaren Krallen an den Zehen gräbt sie im hellen Wüstensand, dass die Körnchen und der feine Staub nur so spritzen. Zwischendurch taucht ihr kleiner, dreieckiger Kopf mit der spitzen Schnauze aus dem dunklen Erdloch auf, in dem sie energisch wühlt. Das hübsche Tierchen hält inne und sucht mit seinen bernsteinfarben leuchtenden, scharfen Augen die Umgebung ab. Das ist unbedingt notwendig, denn die Manguste ist für viele andere Tiere das, was für uns die Schokolade ist, nämlich ein richtiger Leckerbissen. Wegen ihrer geringen Größe brauchen Greifvögel, Schlangen und Warane außerdem nicht lange zu sukkeln, um den Happen magenfreundlich zu machen. Die Augen der Manguste sind nicht etwa nur stechend scharf, sondern das fuchsähnliche Säugetierchen hat von der Natur zusätzlich eine Sonnenbrille
zum Schutz gegen die grellen Strahlen unseres Lebenssterns geschenkt bekommen. Die Pupillen sind schlitzig-rechteckig, um so wenig UVStrahlen wie möglich hineinzulassen. Mit einer Augenmembran können sie die Augen sogar ganz verschließen.
Diese Fuchsmanguste (Cynictis penicillata) , auf Englisch Yellow mongoose und auf Afrikaans Rooimeerkat genannt, wühlt bei der Kalahari Anib Lodge im Sand.

31 AUGUST 2018 Landrovers from as far as South Africa and Angola attended the 2nd Landrover Festival in Uis. 120 Landrovers were officially entered but close to 200 Landrovers attended the event with an estimate of around 800 visitors. The full program started on Friday with a Gold Rush, Landrover Pirates competition, sundowner on the Mine Heap and campfire stories for the evening. After the official opening of the event on Saturday, drivers could test their skills at the LA Sport 4x4 Expertise drive. Other fun events for the day were the tyre change competition, Gold Rush and Trivia night. The big draw of the evening made Eric Reinhardt from Swakopmund a proud Landrover owner. Sunday was no exception and started early with competitions and a Treasure Hunt through Uis. A cook-off and the much loved drag races were held the afternoon. The fastest team to set up a tent won themselves a brand new Bushwackers/Campworld tent.
Landrover owners got together for a drive by and line up on Monday before saying goodbye and returning home. All proceeds from the festival will go to the DELHRA (Desert Lion Human Relations Aid) and Ehra (Elephant Human Relations Aid). The first project will be for a new pump which will provide water for lions and elephants which will take them further away from human settlements to ease conflict between them. Landrover lovers can look forward to a third festival for 2020 which is already in the planning.

Rudi Bowe The 22nd Walvis Bay Salt Refiners junior cricket festival was a big success with sixteen schools competed in the annually tournament that won in 2003 and 2006 the International Cricket Council's (ICC) development awards for best junior cricket programme. President of Cricket Namibia Dr. Rudie van Vuuren said that it was a fantastic and well organised week of cricket and he thanked John Heynes and Nolene for what they are doing for the development of cricket at the coast and he thanked Walvis Bay Salt Refiners for flavouring the lives of young cricketers as you flavoured food. "We should not underestimate sponsorships for sport as it create pure enjoyment and memories in the lives of young sport men and women" Van Vuuren said. Walvis Bay Salt Refiners MD Andre Snyman said "We are honoured to be involved with the development of young talent and this tournament remains a unique opportunity for every young cricketer and many players that participated through the ranks and represented Namibia at senior and national level. He mentioned that eleven members of the Namibian under 19 cricket squad that participated in the 2016 and 2018 ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in Bangladesh and New Zealand played in the Coastal Junior Cricket Festival and that we are proud to be associated with the festival. Cricket Namibia operations manager John Heynes said "Development is the focus point for the sake of building a solid cricket foundation and provides cricketers and coaches with an opportunity to prepare for the upcoming school cricket leagues. Heynes mentioned that this year's festival was played in a good spirit and that he is to a great extent in debt to the coaches and team managers who curtailed their holidays in order to be with their teams for this festival."

this matter the Hockey Union has with immediate has resolved the following: With immediate effect recalled Ms Mareke Short and in the interim appointed Ms Magreth Mengo to be head coach for the Hockey team tour to Zimbabwe. LiyaHerunga (athlete) has since been brought back to the under sixteen team. Hockey Union's leadership considers this matter as very serious and damaging to the image of the federation and as such they will establish a task team to launch an investigation into the matter, and submit a report in that regard and will call for a press conference to enlighten the nation. Although the national colours and international participation in relation to the tour is yet to be submitted to the Commission, the Hockey Union was directed to in the future do reference checks and balances when doing recruitment of coaches as they will be held accountable for the actions of whoever they employ to represent the country. That the tour in consultations with their counterparts in Zimbabwe is now postponed to a later date in November. That a detailed investigation on the matter be carried out and a report to be submitted to the Commission. Namibia Sports Commission – Recommendations and Way forward: The investigation committee on racism, tribalism and discrimination in sport to finalize its report with recommendations to be tabled to the line minister office soonest. We would like to appeal to the members of the public, especially those within the sports of any form of discrimination in sport, they should not shy away, but contact our offices without further due and we can assure to attend to your matters and act promptly. Liya Herunga the under 14 national hockey player Serious Allegations on the Exclusion of an Athlete from the under 16 Namibia Hockey Union tour to Zimbabwe Following media reports on the above mentioned matter, Namibia Sports Commission wish to enlighten stakeholders and the general public as follows: Indeed the grievance as reported was registered by Ms Ruth Herunga, parent to LiyaHerunga (an under 14 national hockey players) at our offices on Friday, 17 August 2018. The Namibia Sports Commission under the office of the Chief Administrator, Mr Simataa Mwiya without further due invited the parent, and our affiliate Namibia Hockey Union (NHU) to our offices to establish the facts and address the matter. From the onset, the Commission wants to send a stern warning and a serious message to all our affiliates that as an organization, we have a Zero Tolerance to Racism, Tribalism or any form of Discrimination in Sport and therefore will not allow matters of this nature to continue to happen unaddressed under our watch. As an organization tasked with the responsibility to coordinate, control, nurture and regulate sports development in the country, we deem this matter as very serious and as in doing so, we immediately invited, the parent and subpoenaed the leadership of our affiliate, Namibia Hockey Union to a meeting. Indeed, the meeting took place on Monday, 20 August 2018 and in attendance was the NSC Chief Administrator, two officials (from the task team commissioned to investigate Racism, Tribalism and Discrimination in Sport), Ms Herunga (parent) And Mr Konrad Wessels (Vice President of NHU & Head of Coaches and Team Selection Committee). In addressing the matter, the Commission established facts that indeed they young black player LiyaHerunga was originally selected to the team, but without explanation she was later excluded by the newly appointed head coach for the
under 16 tour to Zimbabwe, Ms Mareke Short. It was further established that the player in question certainly did registered her unhappiness toward the treatment she was being exposed to, during the team's recent tour to Bloemfontein by not being accorded time to play on the field by the same coach under the NSSU tour to Bloemfontein. Indeed, this matter was confirmed by our affiliate federation Namibia Schools Sports Union (NSSU) that they encountered almost similar problems with the same coach and this particular matter was brought to their attention and hence they relieved her from coaching duties within the structures of the NSSU. Remedical Actions taken: The Namibia Sports Commission considers this matte as very serious and that this case should not be treated in isolation as there could be many matters of this kind which continues to damage the good name of Namibian Sport. It should further be noted that following the Ombudsman Report of 2017 titled "A Nation Divided: Why do Racism and other forms of Discrimination Still Persist after Twenty Seven Years of Namibia's Independence" upon closer look at recommendations emanating from the report the Commission immediately established a committee to investigate cases of alleged racism, tribalism and any form of discrimination in sport, and for the start we sampled 10 sports codes which included Hockey, Rugby, Cricket, Cycling, Football and so forth. The committee amongst other things will be looking at issues of alleged racism, tribalism, the failure of federations to apply for national colors for international participation and team selection policies as there seems to be a lack of inclusiveness of national teams to reflect the country's representative demographic layout. With the Namibian Nationals which are around the corner, 56 children participated in an Archery competition that was hosted by the Walvis Bay Archery in the School Program (WASP) on Saturday, 18 August 2018 at their club at the Jan Wilkens Stadium in Walvis Bay. All entry fees for the historic day went to J.L du Toit, a 13 year old sarcoma cancer warrior and Chryzander Brits a 6 year old brain cancer warrior both from Walvis Bay and Julian Rittman with a kidney disease from Rehoboth. Mrs. Jeanine de Jager the founder of WASP said that the club committee decided in the commencement of the year that they will plough back into the community. One of their other projects worth mentioning was to collect a tin of food and/or old clothes for the Janet Martin Foundation and the Emmanuel Ruiters School at the beginning of 2018 as well as the car wash at Namib Off Road Centre and the collection of needed goods for the SPCA in Walvis Bay. Mrs. Jeanine de Jager also mentioned that all the Archers collect funds for the three boys with demonstrations and try outs at Huis Palms Old Age Home bazaar, the Oesterfees. Regional Netball Championships
The second edition of the Debmarine Namibia Senior Regional Netball Championships will start today at 18:30 at the Tamariskia Sport Field in Swakopmund. The event has been made possible by the generous sponsorship of Debmarine Namibia. Netball Namibia Vice-President Rebekka /Goagoses said "We are excited along with the executives and players of all 14 regions." Rebekka, mentioned that national team players are not allowed to represent their regions in the tournament as Netball Namibia would like all regions to give an opportunity to raw talent, skills which need to be nurtured for the future.
