On 2 August , the community of Walvis Bay commemorates the 38th anniversary of the Atlantic Meat Market butchery bombing. On this tragic day in 1986, a man left a bag containing a bomb in Atlantic Meat Market. The ensuing explosion claimed five lives and injured many others, leaving an indelible mark on the town's collective memory. The loud bang sounded all over the town, and both young and old remember exactly where they were when the horrific occurrence rocked the town.
