Daar word ook binnekort regulasies uitgevaardig wat voorsiening sal maak daarvoor dat bestaanshengelaars van gratis permitte voorsien word. Met betrekking tot ontspanningshengelaars: Die permit kan ook vir sewe dae teen N$350 (N$50 x 7) uitgeneem word, of N$1500 vir 'n maandpermit (N$50 x 30). Die Minister van Seevisserye en Mariene Hulpbronne, mnr Bernhardt Esau, het gister in 'n intêrne memorandum die jongste verwikkelinge aan amptenare van die ministerie uiteengesit. Daar sou gister ook 'n openbare verklaring in hierdie verband uitgereik word. Die visseryeministerie se hoofkantoor was die afgelope week hewig deur visserye-amptenare gekritiseer, omdat daar geen vooraf konsultasies oor die meer as 10 000 % prysverhoging van hengelpermitte was nie. Jan Publiek het ook heftig gereageer. 'n Maandpermit was N$14 en 'n jaarpermit N$168. Die memorandum lui ook dat daar binnekort 'n regulasie in terme van die Wet op Mariene Hulpbronne uitgevaardig gaan word, wat riglyne verskaf wie as bestaansvissermanne kan kwalifiseer. The renowned world-class performer will grace the stage tonight at the Advocacy, Partnership and Resource Mobilisation fundraising gala event, to launch the much anticipated 'Kulila' song as part of UNICEF's ongoing 70th celebrations as well as the Sunshine Centre's 21st anniversary. The song, which will be released as a single, also part of her upcoming album, was written by Mwatile giving insight into 'growing up in Mondesa'. The event is aimed at raising funds for the centre and demonstrate the many talents that children living with disabilities have. Chaka Chaka recorded the 'Kulila' song with the Sunshine Centre Children's Choir, to symbolize her contribution toward the centre and advocating for the inclusion of children living with disabilities. The event will take place at the Municipality Town Hall tonight at 19:00. Chaka Chaka will also perform a repertoire of her songs for the evening. "UNICEF is proud to be associated with such a successful and meaningful endeavour," said the UNICEF Representative Micaela Marques de Sousa. "Children with disabilities have rights too. We need to ensure that they are able to enjoy the same rights and choices as other children - among these, the right to life and to the opportunities that flow from good health care, nutrition and education. Piquet Jacobs During the ordinary monthly council meeting held on Tuesday night at the Council Chambers in Walvis Bay, Mayor Alderman Immanuel Wilfried updated residents on the construction of a 20 million liter potable water reservoir at Mile 7. Construction is already in an advanced stage, Clr Wilfried reported. The project is aimed at increasing water availability to Walvis Bay in times of crisis, often experienced when water supply equipment is damaged during periodic flooding of the Kuiseb River. Water interruptions is expected to take place in the foreseeable future when the reservoir is connected to Walvis Bay's water reticulation system. The Mayor also provided an update on the Farm 37 project. The project aims to make affordable urban land available on a mass scale east of Walvis Bay, for the resettlement of landless urban residents. "There are still a number of challenges ahead before Farm 37 becomes a reality, but the Municipal Council is doing everything it can to facilitate the shortening the processes involved", he explained. A meeting between the municipality and the Governor of the Erongo Region, Clr Cleophas Mutjavikua reportedly took place on Wednesday to pave the way forward. "I would like to assure our residents that Farm 37 is not just a file collecting dust of our shelves," said Clr Wilfried, putting at ease those affected by unaffordable and a shortage of urban land.

Bonus Marktplatz gets a huge 1.5 ton clock tower Sharlien Tjambari
The new-modernised Bonus Marktplatz development, which will soon be re-opening in Swakopmund, is now home to a massive clock tower. The clock tower was put into its place on the corner structure of Bonus Marktplatz on Tuesday. It was spectacular to see the skill with which a crane driver placed the clock tower on the position where it would sit for decades to come.

There was too little space at the construction site for the construction work", explained Liebenberg. Adding they had to rent a 15-ton crane, because of the weight and distance they had to cover to remove the structure from the truck. The clock tower weighs 1.5 tons and it has a clock-face of 1.48 metres. The clock tower is 11.4 metres high and a width of 1.8 metres. Liebenberg further revealed that in the clock tower a digital clock from Germany will be fitted. The clock can be set via mobile phone. He continued: "Swakopmund will have its own town clock and it's got different phases. Its sound can also be set at different modes. The clock will be installed

Warning: Mussels Young man murdered contain high DSP in Mondesa levels Sharlien Tjambari

Residents along the coast are warned to not harvest or eat any mussels from the Walvis Bay Aquaculture Production Area, as samples from the area revealed high levels of Diarrheic Shellfish Poisoning (DSP). The situation was determined during routine sampling and testing by the Namibian Standards Institution (Nsi). In a press release issued on Tuesday, Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources Permanent Secretary, Moses Maurihungirire, announced the area will be closed for harvest until further notice. According to Maurihungirire the mussels are highly unfit for human consumption, as it may cause intense diarrhoea with a high risk of dehydration, severe abdominal pains, nausea and vomiting. DSP and its symptoms usually set in within about half an hour of ingesting infected shellfish, and last for about one day. No deaths have been recorded from the consumption of mussels with DSP. Maurihungirire confirmed the matter is being closely monitored as the NSi will continue to take samples to keep a close eye on the biotoxin levels.
Heardly Sondag Seibeb (25) was stabbed with a knife in the neck and shoulder by two unknown suspects on Wednesday evening between 22:00 and 23:30 this week. He died as a result of his injuries.
NamPol spokesperson for Erongo, Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu said the attackers are Damara/Nama speaking people. One suspect has a light skin complexion and wears his hair in a Rastafarian fashion. His co-accomplice is short in built and has a dark skin complexion. The incident took place at the Hanganeni suburb in Mondesa. The deceased and his two friends (one of them a security officer) were allegedly on their way to a friend's shack for a visit. When they arrived at the shack, which is next to Hanganeni School in Main Street, they allegedly found the two suspects consuming alcohol next to the shack. They asked the suspects why they were drinking next to their ghetto and the suspects
apparently just started to attack them with stones and stabbed Seibeb with a large type of knife. Seibeb and his two friends ran away towards the open area behind Hanganeni Primary School. Seibeb ran for a short distance, collapsed and died. According to the spokesperson of NamPol the suspected murderers are still at large. Investigators are following up on leads and hopes are high for their imminent arrest. The deceased's next of kin were informed. Despite an ongoing effort by the Namibian Police to confiscate knives and other potentially dangerous weapons, young people continue to roam the streets, armed. It is especially at night that these youngsters commit violent crimes, often as a result of habits fuelled by alcohol and drugs.

Erongo school principals bid Court Swakopmund Court farewell to Olivier Report Sharlien Tjambari
On Tuesday principals of the Erongo region said their goodbyes to Mr Ernest Olivier, the Inspector of Education in the Swakopmund Circuit, as he steps into retirement. The farewell function was held at Henties Bay. Olivier has been in the education sector since 1981, clocking 36 years. Olivier, who celebrated his 60th birthday last week, will be helping out until the end of July says Mrs Kooper, the Principal of Tamariskia Primary School. He has been serving as the Inspector of Education for the Swakopmund Circuit for three years. Before moving to the Erongo region, he was a teacher at Rehoboth High School for a period of ten years. Olivier joined the Erongo Regional Education Department in 1991 and served as a teacher at Tamariskia Primary School. In 1992, he moved over to Deutsche Oberschuhle Swakopmund, now known as Namib High School, as a teacher. In 1996 Olivier was promoted and served as a Head of Department (HOD) at Namib High School (NHS) until 2006. From January 2006, he was the Acting Principal of NHS and in July 2006 he was promoted to school principal, the position in which he served until July 2014. In May 2014 Olivier moved to the Erongo Education Regional Office where he was appointed as the Inspector of Education for the Swakopmund Circuit, a position he held until his retirement. Kooper described Olivier as a humble and wise person. "He is someone that liked to bring forth others and assist others. He always showed respect towards others and on behalf of the Swakopmund circuit I would like to wish him all the best for the new journey which he is about to embark upon. He is a veteran in the education department", said Kooper, who has been a colleague of Olivier for the past few years. The Principal of Coastal High School, Mr. Martin, said Olivier will be dearly missed by all. “By schools, the regional office and everyone within the education sector”, Martin continued: "he liked giving motivational speeches to the Grade 10 and 12 learners, especially during the exam times. He even offered further assistance with regard to motivating learners."

Henties Bay Mayor, Herman Honeb (54), who stands accused of being in possession of suspected stolen meat made his second court appearance in the Swakopmund magistrates court on Tuesday. His co-accused is Walter Hoeseb (37). Honeb was arrested on 17 June after allegedly receiving a cattle carcass without any documentation to prove he is the rightful owner. Allegations are the meat was sold to him by Hoeseb. The incident allegedly took place at Erf no. 1952 in Omaruru Drive in Henties Bay. The police recovered the full carcass, valued at N$8 000, from Honeb as well as some cash from Hoeseb. After spending a weekend behind bars, the pair was released on bail of N$4 000 each. Prosecutor Dalon Quickfall informed the court that although the investigation is at an advanced stage, and all statements were attained, photos from the crime scene was missing and therefore requested the case be postponed until 27 September. Shakespeare Masiza, representing Honeb, concurred, but warned against any further postponements due to incomplete investigations. He explained it should be avoided, alternatively the case to be struck from the roll.

The offshore supply vessel, Peridot (pictured), arrived from Cape Town recently to assist with the transfer of equipment and materials between the port of Walvis Bay and an oil rig anchored off port limits. The vessel will make several scheduled calls alongside to load the equipment and materials. The rig readies for an exploration mission and needs to be supplied with equipment and materials. Young man commits suicide The community of Walvis Bay is shocked by the news of the suicide by hanging of 24-year old Hugo Dreyer yesterday. Dreyer ended his life in his own apartment which is situated on the same premises of his employer in the light industrial area. He did not turn up for work yesterday morning. His father went to his living quarters to ascertain what was wrong. Dreyer did not complain of any illness. His father discovered the body. Mid-water trawl fishery hit by massive increase in levies Namibia's midwater trawl fishing sector has been dealt a potentially disastrous blow with increases on average of 391 % and 692 % on levies per ton of fish landed and levies on quotas.The industry is gravely concerned that these levies would lead to financial ruin, particularly for newcomer operators in the horse mackerel sector. The regulation introducing these increased levies was signed into law on 26 June this year."We learnt of these exorbitant increases in levies two weeks ago at our midwater trawl association's annual general meeting. We had no idea that this was coming", a senior manager in the industry explained yesterday. He declined to be mentioned by name, but referred to an industry document as well as the Government Gazette in which the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources Bernhardt Esau published the revised levies. "Fishing companies in the midwater trawl sector are already operating at a loss. You would recall that fees for fisheries observers increased some time ago from N$800 000 per vessel per annum to N$3 million per vessel per annum. Pension increase as from August The Ministry of Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare announced the social grants paid to registered pensioners and persons living with disabilities will be increased from N$1 100 to N$1 200 monthly. The increase takes effect as from August. The increase is backdated to April meaning pensioners will receive an extra N$400 on the N$1200 pension in August.The Ministry urges all beneficiaries to ensure these grants are used responsibly and to the benefit of the elderly and the disabled. Missing man found by cyclists The Walvis Bay resident who went missing for more than forty eight hours last week was found early on Friday morning. Mr Pieter Sternberg's family mounted a search for him on Thursday which included a search by air. Sternberg left his house on his way to work around lunch time on Wednesday. He disappeared and by Thursday his family became gravely concerned. A group of cyclists found Sternberg in a confused state walking along Union street in Walvis Bay on Friday morning. The police were contacted immediately to reunite Sternberg with his worried family. His vehicle was found in the Kobi Alexander housing development with all of his cards, documents and cellphone inside. Team Namibia Members Benefit from Trade-Market Logo With the registration of Team Namibia's logo as a trademark, Team Namibia members who are actively registered with the member-based marketing organisation, have the exclusive right to use the Team Namibia logo when advertising or promoting their products or services. Often Namibian products and services are crowded out by cheaper imported alternatives, where suppliers mostly can compete on price due to having achieved economies of scale as a result of having access to larger regional or international markets. Therefore, a strong logo, supported by a trademark, is of enormous advantage to Team Namibia members to tackle this competition. With the security of a trademarked logo, members of Team Namibia can ensure to distinguish their products and services from its competitors. The trademarked logo communicates with and captures the attention of buyers; it conveys the message that the Namibian product or service meets quality, health and safety
standards and that the supplier of the service or product is local and can be trusted to contribute to the local Namibian economy. The Team Namibia logo was registered in line with Namibia's Trade Marks Act, 1973 (Act No. 48 of 1973). From a legal perspective, the registration of the logo as a trademark allows for Team Namibia to take legal action against any organisation that uses the logo and, is not a registered member of Team Namibia. Namibians are perhaps yet to recognise the value of a trademark. As with Team Namibia, a trademark does not need to be a word. Designs in Team Namibia's case, the multi-coloured map - can be recognised regardless of language or alphabet. The trademark will make it easy for customers to
find Namibian products and services and know that upon acquisition that they contribute to the local economy. The t r a d e m a r k e d Te a m Namibia logo can evolve into an exceptionally valuable asset for Namibian businesses. The more enterprises will join the Team Namibia marketing organisation, the more wide-spread the use of the trademarked logo will become. Extensive, yet restricted usage of the logo, means simply greater exposure for Namibian products and services. Pieter Greeff, chairman of the board of Team Namibia says: "In fact, every business that is contributing to the Namibian economy, s h o u l d j o i n Te a m Namibia. In all sectors of our economy, there appear to be imports of not only products but

Young man says HIV/Aids stigmatised at Henties Bay Sharlien Tjambari
A young man, residing in Henties Bay says job hunting has become a challenge at Henties Bay. His HIV-status is known to the community in general, making it even worse to find a job, he explained to namib times this week. The young man, whose name cannot be mentioned, explains he only has Grade 10 (2004). He has been working and took short courses to further his knowledge in retail management. He studied online. The young man migrated to Henties Bay in search for greener pastures. His life started off well in the new town. He fit in perfectly. But then things turned for the worse. "I was diagnosed with HIV/AIDS two-years ago and my life changed drastically. I stopped drinking and smoking. It was important to optimise my treatment. I told some friends whom I trusted about my status. I even told church members, because I am a born again Christian", says the young man. Contrary to his expectations, he is now the talk of town. According to him people in Henties Bay go to the clinic just to observe and see who is collecting anti-retroviral drugs and to gather information about

the health status of others. This makes life for people living with HIV//Aids very difficult. "We are not treated fairly in Henties Bay, especially in employment. A year ago I lost my job at a local supermarket, because of claims made against me. The managers lacked evidence. I was suspended and lost my job. Since, I have been struggling to find a job" says the worried young man. He further claims employers at Henties Bay even talk among one another over who is employable
or not. "Henties Bay is a very small community and everyone knows one another. Even if you have a lot of experience in retail, you will not find work anywhere because they condemn and tarnish your name just for you not to find work", he added. He also urged the Minister of Labour, and the Minister of Health to visit the town and witness this for themselves.

An der Atlantikküste,in der Namibwüste PSS-Show: Welch eine Nacht der Musicals! Swakopmund (sk) Zweimal hintereinander bot die Privatschule Swakopmund ihre ,,Nacht der Musicals” an - jedesmal vor voll besetzter Aula. Es mussten sogar etliche Besucher wieder nach Hause geschickt werden. Auffällig ist bei Shows dieser Schule in erster Linie immer wieder das gesunde Selbstvertrauen, mit denen die Kinder und Jugendlichen auf den Bühnenbrettern agieren - in diesem Falle die Schüler der Klassen 1 bis 7. Es war für mich als Zuschauer eine wahre Freude, den Freudenund Begeisterungstaumel zu sehen, mit dem geschauspielert und gesungen wurde. Schade nur, dass die Stimmen durch den Playback zu wenig zur Geltung kamen. Man hätte die Hintergrund-

der Kühnaststraße mit einer passenden Dekoration aus Schallplatten, die von der Decke baumelten. Die gute Idee stammte von der Kunstlehrerin Karin Burger. Ursprünglich sollte die ,,Nacht der Musicals” einfach nur ein sozialer Event und weniger ein richtiges Theaterstück sein, da man sich nicht sicher war, ob eine weitere PSSShow das besonders gelungene Theaterstück ,Pippi Langstrumpf’ vom vergangene Jahr, übertreffen könne. Letztendlich aber entwickelte sich doch ein beeindru-

It’s Friday, it’s Fight Night at the Dome Rudi Bowe Tonight is a special night for Namibian born Albinuis "Danny Boy" Felessianu and seven other Namibian boxers, as they will be on the bill with eight other boxers from Nigeria, Cameroon, Zimbabwe, Tanzania and South Africa in the Desert Storm Fight Night at the Dome. "Danny Boy" holds three championship titles, the I B F Wo r l d Yo u t h T i t l e , t h e N W B A Intergovernmental Title and the IBF Intercontinental Title. He only lost two fights in the early days of and holds a record of 208 wins in his career. Tonight he will be in the ring against Tanzania's Yonas Segu for the IBF Africa Junior Lightweight Title. The main supporting bout tonight sees another local fighter, Abraham Ndauendapo, taking on South Africa Nkosinathi Ntshangase for the WBF Africa Super Featherweight Title. Other notable fights on the bill for the evening are an international non-title heavyweight fight between former WBF Africa Heavyweight Champion Elvis Moyo and Nigeria's Akeem Tijani. The undercard also features Cameroon Olympian and decorated amateur Smaila Hamaman making his much-anticipated professional debut. Tonight's opening fight will also see the Namibian boxing legend Harry Simon's son Harry Simon JNR square off against another Namibian, Sam Shaamma JNR in a non-title welterweight bout. Before the welterweight bout the junior title fights, (Legacy Champions titles) will be on the bill in pre-fights. The Swakopmund Women Soccer League for the 2017/18 season was launched at the Vineta Central Sports Stadium. The Swakopmund Women Soccer League (SWSL) for the 2017/18 season received a big boost when two Windhoek based companies, Chopsi's Bar and Mushimba Transport sponsored the league with an amount of N$65 000 for the season. The launch was attended by Councillor Uahimisa Kaapehi the management of the two companies, Selma Siwombe, the Sports officer at the Ministry of Sport, Youth and National Service in Swakopmund, Councillor Benitha Imbamba, from the Arandis Constituency Council and the soccer players from the teams that will play in the league. Councillor Uahimisa Kaapehi, a member of the Swakopmund Town Council and representative for sports on behalf of the Swakopmund Municipality, said he encourages the community at large to engage themselves in sport activities. Councillor Kaapehi continued by saying "soccer, like any other sport has its benefits, as it is improving our overall health, it helps us to learn and unite". He also
elaborated that it is evident that participation in sports can help break-down gender stereotypes, improve girls/women self-esteem and contribute to the development of leadership skills". The chairperson of the Swakopmund Women Soccer League, Wilson Nguvauva, said the Women Soccer League aims to invest in the community and that the league is a development program which was established in 2015 to get young girls off the streets and getting them involved in sport. He also mentioned the league promotes gender equality in the society and the challenge of educating young players about the prevention of HIV/AIDS. The League will kick-off tomorrow at the Mondesa Stadium in Swakopmund. The first game will be at 10:00 with Namib Daughters against Dragon City, @12:00-African Queens vs United Nation, @14:00-Dream Team vs Kavetu FC, and @16:00Dragon City vs Nampol.

High victorious Over the past weekend two FNB Classic Clashes soccer matches were played at the coast and both were won by the hosts, Kuisebmond Secondary School and WestSide High School. Kuisebmond beat SI Gobs with 3 to 1 goals, WestSide High was victorious against the Kolin Foundation, beating them 3-0. In the Kuisebmond game the hosts used the great attempts at the goal and scored a spectacular goal in the second half which put them in the lead at that point. Towards the end, they received a penalty and managed to convert that into a goal, ending the game on 3-1. Hosts Westside High put on a fantastic show and were also greatly cheered on by the crowd. They maintained the upper hand throughout the game, although both teams gave it their all. Especially after half time. Gordon Pokolo, Manager Sponsorships at FNB Namibia remarked: "The sport action on the field at all the FNB Classic Clashes games has been tremendous this year. PISCS Monthly Medal The last weekend was the true test of golf – the PISCS MONTHLY MEDAL – and a few same old faces in the money. Anton van Rensburg won the overall net with Kevin Wentzel winning the overall gross, Jason Barnard won the 'A' division with Koot Potgieter winning the 'B' division. Chris Bothma won the 'C' division. The lucky draws were won by Colin Peake Thomas Wolff. Well played all and we will get the update from Wouter for the race to cape town. Thanks to JJ and Jonas and the PISCS team The draw was not won last weekend as Deon Grunschloss was not able to take the time out to be at the club so his 1 600 now becomes someone else's 1 700. The Third Annual Husab Marathon Swakopmund Fight Club’s Mid-Year Grading to take place on 5 August 2017 Sharlien Tjambari
Swakop Uranium Foundation under the pillar of Health and Well-being is the main sponsor of the Husab Marathon. The marathon is an annual international event on the Namibian Athletics calendar and will take place on 5th August 2017 at the Husab Mine near Swakopmund. The Trustee of the Swakop Uranium Foundation, Mr. Percy McCallum, said that event was well attended in 2016 and attracted close to 500 participants. This year, the event promises to be bigger and better. The Husab Marathon serves as both an official running event and a community fun day. There is no entry fees payable for any of the races. There will be food on offer from local vendors and free entertainment available to all. McCallum further emphasized there will also be exciting cash prizes to be won for participants as well as lucky draw prizes up for grabs for all. Jumping castles and face painting will be available for free to the kids. McCallum added more than 150 entries were received up to date. Participants who are unable to attend registration are advised to send someone to register on their behalf. The registration office closes today. On Friday, 4 August 2017 as from 15:00 to 20:00 all race materials can be collected at the Vineta Sports Field in Swakopmund. Entry forms can be obtained at Swakopm Uranium Offices in Swakopmund, Cnr of Leutwein and Nathaniel Maxuilili Streets, OTB Sports Swakopmund and OTB Sports Wernhill Park in Windhoek. Registration can be conducted online on the website of Swakop Uranium.
Transport to and from the venue will be provided free for the runners on the day of the marathon. The pickup points will be; 06:00 at the Dome in Swakopmund, 05:30 at the taxi rank in Kuisebmund, 06:30 at the Town Council office at Arandis. Participants who drives with their own vehicles are welcome to do so. There will be secure parking at the starting point of the race. The 42km run will start at 07:00, the 10km will start at 08:00 and the 5km run starts at 08:15. Cash Prizes amounting to N$80 000 are up for grabs by winners of the 42 km and 10 km male and female runners. McCallum further noted the Swakop Uranium Foundation has since the inception of this event, partnered with the Office of the Erongo Regional Governor. This partnership is for the office of the Governor to identify charity organisations or schools that will receive donations to cover some of their educational needs. This token of appreciation will be in the form of cash which will be from co-sponsors. Last year, the Khomdare kindergarten received almost N$70 000 to meet their educational needs. This year several sponsors such as, Engen, Barloworld, Bridgestone, Atlas Copco, Dust-aside, Wesco Engineering, Sandvik, Rent-a-drum, NHP and Old Mutual came on board to assist in the success of the event.

ACC arrests sport officials The Anti-Corruption Commission arrested two former long serving Sports Commissioners on Tuesday, for allegedly misappropriating N$5 million from the Namibian Sports Commission. This money was meant for the development of deprived sports codes in the country. It is allege that there are higher ranking officials that are implicated in the misappropriation of the funds. 5th Regional NHRSA Competition

Contributed On the 22nd of July the NHRSA hosted their fifth regional competition at Heja Lodge outside Windhoek with 68 shooters attending. We started at 8:00 with a briefing of the day ahead and then descended on a very well prepared course, set up by the Central representatives. First up was a Caracal target, shooting without external support in a standing position; 2nd course we shot at 5 gongs at various distances using a specially prepared telephone pole structure; 3rd course we had to use the kneeling position and shoot at an Impala target; 4th course we shot at a fox target while in a sitting position using a pole planted upright in the ground (we saw quite a few variations of sitting here); on the 5th course we shot from a lying down position using an x-bag and short pole at an Oryx target; lastly we shot a 5 gong course again using a pole that was planted at a 45 degree angle, what made it interesting was that colours were painted on the pole, first two shots were made standing up, then kneeling for 2 shots and then lying down for one shot, all within 120 seconds. At the end of the competition everyone agreed that the day was very successful and enjoyable with the course set-up in such a way that you could challenge yourself and learn new tricks. We had some first time shooters, which were great, and they, together with regular attendees are excited about the next shoot which will be held in Tsumeb on the 26th of August 2017. The day was concluded with the prize giving at SKW where the following shooters received their medals in the various classes. In the Penkoppe class the day was won by Janro Greeff with Hanre Cocklin and Mike Baartman jnr in 2nd and 3rd place respectively. In the Junior class the first place went to Xander van Rooyen followed by Maritz Muller in 2nd and Henco Kotze in 3rd place. In the Veteran class JP Human took 1st place. In the Senior class David Francis took 1st place and Louw van Zyl 2nd place. In the Ladies class Cornel v/d Westhuizen took 1st place, followed by BetsMarie Coetzee and Stephanie Marais in 2nd and 3rd place. The Men's class was won by Francois Marais jnr, with Francois Marais snr in 2nd place and Dirk Sauber in 3rd place – they also took the Gold class and were the Overall winners for the day in these positions. In the Silver class Ferdinand Schnaitmann took 1st place, with Tabbie Barnard and Willie Langford in 2nd and 3rd place. In the Bronze class Gunther Woortman took 1st place, Gawie van Zyl 2nd place and Heinrich Barnard 3rd place. The Namibian National Women's team were also announced, Cornel v/d Westhuizen, Karola Woortman, Stephanie Marais, Lauren Nesenbered, Johanna Baartman (reserve) and Johan Wessels as Team Manager. These women together with the National and Presidential men's teams will be representing Namibia in the test match against South Africa on the 20th of October 2017 at Oanob Resort. Congratulations to the ladies! On the 23rd of July the .223 class took place. The same course was used, but the shooting positions were changed – Course 1 was a Caracal and Dassie target, shooting from a standing position using a 3 legged stick
Namibia’s maiden Open Water Swimmer at World championship
as support; then we shot at 5 gongs at various distances using a specially prepared telephone pole structure; on the 3rd course we had to use the kneeling position and shoot at an Impala target; the 4th course we shot at a fox target while in a lying position using a pole planted upright in the ground; on course nr 5 we shot from a lying down position using an x-bag and short pole at an Oryx target; lastly we shot a 5 gong course again using a pole that was planted at a 45 degree angle. The winner of the day was Francois Marais SNR, with Francois Marais JNR in 2nd place and Wittes Marais in 3rd place. Thank you to all our loyal supporters and sponsors. Four times OTB Pupkewitz Jetty Mile winner, Phillip Seidler, long distance swimmer and surfer from Swakopmund competed at the 17th Fina Senior World Championship on the 15th July in Hungary. After competing at the SA National OWS (open water swim) in March, he qualified for the 5km event for the Senior Open Water Swim World championship in Balaton – Hungary. The choppy waters of Lake Balaton welcomed 62 Elite world swimmers for the 5km race. Phillip Seidler performed well in his maiden World Championship and reached a remarkable 42nd position in an excellent time of 56:32,70min, just 2 minutes off the French World Champ Olivier, who claimed the honors when he posted a rapid time of 53:31.40. Phillip was one of the youngest swimmer participants, with a bright future lying ahead of him. He is also the first ever Namibian swimmer in history to finish the race well under the cut - off time and putting Namibia on the map for Open Water Swimming. Phillip is the current Namibian record holder of 400m, 800m and 1500m free in pool events. He specializes in long distances and is determined to make Namibia proud in many more open water swims and pool events to come. As a Namibian open water swimmer, these international events are all self paid trips, as Open Water Swimming is still in its infant stages of development in Namibia.
