Mayor apologises to residents This week Namwater felt the heat as the Erongo Desalination Plant that supplies water to Arandis, Swakopmund and the mines, undertook a planned maintenance on its system, on top of the borehole interruptions on the production side of the Omdel system which supplies water to Swakopmund and to some extent Langstrand. Langstrand residents who have been left without water in the six-day water shutdown scheduled from Friday, 21 April to Wednesday, 26 April, expressed their frustration at a meeting with the Walvis Bay Mayor, Trevino Forbes at the resort on Tuesday this week. Forbes met with the residents to apologise for the water shortage. “I came here personally to express our apologies for the situation you are in, and we hope to find a permanent solution to this.” The mayor said in his apology meeting of Tuesday, another meeting which will include the municipal technical team will be scheduled on a later date. The mayor explained the Municipality of Walvis Bay received short notice from Namwater on the situation and subsequent water shutdown to Langstrand. Residents used the opportunity to air their frustrations. “We were only informed about the water interruption on Friday, 21 April, a day after the water was shut down on Langstrand. My tourist accommodation lost a large booking because of this,” one resident said. According to another resident, just as was the case in December, Aphrodite beach and Dolphin Beach are minimally affected. “Everything comes to a standstill, builders, plumbers etc., and nobody wants to take responsibility for not notifying residents on the progression of the situation,” another resident said. The mayor assured residents the reservoir was being filled as they spoke, and once the acquired level is reached, water supply will return to normal whereto residents suggested

Crucial employment opportunities Langer Heinrich Uranium (LHU) mine will restart production in the first half of 2024 after having stopped operations in 2018 due to unfavourable market conditions. Monday this week was a day of celebration and gratitude as Erongo Marine Enterprises (Pty) Ltd (EME) and Commercial Cold Storage Namibia (CCS Namibia) permanent employees received dividend pay-outs of N$65 000 before tax per beneficiary from the Erongo Marine Harambee Workers Trust (EMHWT). EMHWT stays true to its purpose to assist in the upliftment, empowerment and financial prosperity of its beneficiaries. The Trust distributed an amount of N$ 13 195 000 equally to 203 permanent employees, including fishermen.
