Stakeholders in the logistics network between Walvis Bay and various Southern African countries took notice with a high level of concern of a bomb blast in neighbouring Zimbabwe’s city of Bulawayo on Saturday, during a political rally attended by the country’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Several Southern African nations condemned the bomb blast, including Namibia’s Head of State Dr Hage Geingob who through the Office of the President issued a statement in this regard. Local role players, who spoke on condition of anonymity over the weekend, said without political stability in SADC, trade between Southern Africa and world markets via the port of Walvis Bay could be under renewed strain. The global financial crisis has already drastically altered the logistics business scene in Southern Africa and more setbacks can only lead to further business decline. Zimbabwe is fast unlocking its trade potential, following a political renewal in the country since November 2017 when the country’s long time rule Robert Mugabe stepped down. It is important now, role players said, that the people of Zimbabwe exercise constraint and let democracy prevail in determining the country’s leadership later this year in national and presidential elections. “The port of Walvis Bay and the Trans Caprivi Trade Corridor can play a vital role for Zimbabwean imports and exports. It is therefore important that the country remain on a path of economic healing”, remarked a leading local figure in the logistics sector. In a statement over the weekend President Hage Geingob (President Geingob is also the Deputy Chairperson of SADC) expressed himself as follows over the bomb attack and also a second bomb attack that rocked Ethiopia: “President Hage G Geingob calls for calm, and respect for rule of law following bomb attacks in Zimbabwe and Ethiopia. information and distorted facts about Mr Augustinus Katiti to the media and the public at large through social media, despite the Board of Directors' directive to Mr Katiti, that he may not “communicate to the media in whatsoever way or manner”. This media release is therefore issued in terms of the Fundamental Freedom of Free Speech enjoyed by Mr Katiti as per Article 21 (1) (a) of the Constitution of the Republic of Namibia. The purpose of this media release is to refute false allegations contained in the media. CEO Travel Costs: The total travelling costs of NIP per annum do not even exceed N$ 3.5 million. It is simple stupidity to profess that the “CEO travel costs” are N$ 3.5 million. The sordid smear campaign presented against Mr Katiti by liars will enjoy the necessary legal attention in due course. Trip to Italy: Mr Katiti has never in his entire life been to Italy. It is therefore devoid of any truth to state that “Katiti and five of his executives” have undertaken a trip to Italy. He has also never travelled to Austria either in his private capacity or on official NIP business. Mr Katiti only travelled once in March 2017 to Johannesburg, South Africa, to attend a training workshop during the whole of the previous financial year. He has also not undertaken any trips outside the borders of Namibia in the current financial year. Mr Katiti travelled to Atlanta, USA, in June 2014 on the invitation of the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention. Mr Katiti also travelled to Stockholm, Sweden, in April 2015 to look at the manufacturing facilities of one of the key vendors doing business with NIP. All travelling requests of the CEO are submitted to the Chairperson of the Board of Directors. Any travelling thus undertaken by the CEO would therefore have been budgeted for and approved by the Chairperson of the Board of Directors. Purchase of Furniture in Italy: NIP never bought furniture in Italy. Furniture to the value of N$ 5 574 370.15 (net amount after 6.9% discount) was bought from R Navarra Shopfitters & Joiners (Pty) Limited, a company based in Cape Town, South Africa. NIP also buys disposable laboratory gloves from local suppliers who import same from mostly China, India and South Africa. It is therefore grossly exaggerated to state that the “cost of the Italian office furniture” is N$ 11 million. This is contorted facts based on the assumptions of liars. Salary hikes: Mr Katiti has unfortunately never received a salary increase of 11% since his appointment at NIP. No staff member at NIP ever received a salary increase of 11%. Mr Katiti will not even be receiving a salary increase during the current financial year, whereas other staff members
have been awarded a salary increase of 10%. This ought to be known by competent Board Members. Expenses within Context: Consultant costs provided as N$ 1.4 million in the media is a mere 0.22% of total revenue or about 0.46% of total operating expenses. The N$ 3.2 million budgeted for training purposes is not even 2% (1.60%) of total employee costs. It represents a mere 1.1% of total operating expenses of NIP for the financial year ended 31 March 2017. Personnel Costs: Personnel costs at NIP were never above 66% of operating costs. Total expenses to sales also remained below 60% and employee costs to sales also remained below 38%, whereas cost of sales was contained at 33%. ST Freight Services CC: It is a fact that the ST Freight Services CC transport transaction was never financed with NIP funds. An extensive response was provided by Mr Katiti to the Board of Directors on this matter. It was also reported already that this matter was discussed by the Board in five formal meetings since March 2017. The contract with this company has been terminated since September 2017. Legal action was also instituted against the company and its principals for the recovery of the vehicles and a criminal case was also lodged with the Namibian Police (WINDHOEK CR 624/02/2018) in February 2018. NIP, or its officials, are not and cannot be held responsible for the dishonest behaviour of any business person contracted in good faith. NIP Budget: Both the operating budget and the capital budget of NIP are approved by the Board of Directors on recommendation by the Audit, Risk and ICT Committee. The Board of Directors have therefore full knowledge of every item budgeted for in any given financial year. Financial reports of actual spending are also submitted on a quarterly basis to the Audit, Risk and ICT Committee and the Board of Directors. Financial Mismanagement: NIP has since its inception never received qualified audited financial statements as result of misstatements, whether due to fraud or error. The audit evidence obtained by the external auditors over the years has always been sufficient and appropriate to provide an unqualified audit opinion. In fact, the audited financial statements have always been considered and approved by the Board of Directors, and also presented to and approved by the shareholder at Annual General Meetings. At no stage whatsoever has any allegation of financial mismanagement been made by duly qualified auditors. The President expressed sincere condolences to those who lost loved ones in Addis Ababa, and wished the injured in both attacks (Ethiopia and Zimbabwe) a speedy recovery.

If he was in any way implicated in any of the alleged wrong doings, such suspension should have followed after the audit containing “very serious transgressions” was concluded. Serious legal consequences are going to follow the fake news conveyed by those who have contorted facts to suit their vendetta against an extremely competent Chief Executive Officer. The stupidity of suspending Chief Executive Officers of State-Owned Enterprises for nebulous reasons at exorbitant costs to the fiscus and tax payers is going to be addressed. The time when mediocre people feel the need to eliminate competent people in State-Owned Enterprises for their own personal vendettas will be exposed to the public as this onslaught against Mr Katiti unfolds. Mr Katiti awaits further publication of fake news before severely dealing with the Board of Directors of Namibia Institute of Pathology through his legal representatives.

Tourism sector aims at exposing Namibia's hidden gems Sharlien Tjambari
The Hospitality Association of Namibia (HAN), held its annual congress in Swakopmund last week Thursday, 21 June, with the theme “Meeting of Minds to Discover the Hidden Gems of Namibia”. During the opening ceremony of the congress, the Minister of Environment and Tourism Pohamba Shifeta said the congress's theme is very befitting and relevant to Government's program of promoting Namibia as a hidden gem for tourism. Namibia is a beautiful country, with rich cultural diversity and spectacular natural attractions. This gives the country a solid foundation to grow the tourism industry in a responsible, sustainable and inclusive manner. Shifeta further said: “ We h a v e m a n y known and unknown gems in the country. What we need to do
now is to lift the veil on our hidden gems to spread the economic benefits of tourism to all parts of the country and all sectors of the population. Our popular and well-known tourist attractions and destinations represent only a small piece of what the country has to offer – it is now time for us to diversify and expand our tourism products”. Namibia is in demand as a tourist destination with many people from around the world wanting to travel here. “However, we are not immune to criticisms and complaints and there is always room to improve. Some of the concerns that we have picked up as leaders have centred on the
issues of innovation”, said Shifeta. He indicated that activities such as bed and breakfast, game drives and boat cruises are becoming common to travelers, travelers wanting to see new things and the tourism industry must think out of the box to come up with exciting packages for tourists to ensure that the tourism sector continues to grow. “Tourism is a sector with so much potential to
change the quality of life in our country and if we work together as Namibians, tourism will help us to realize our dream of becoming a prosperous nation. Our agenda as major role players in the industry is to bring out and expose our hidden gems to the attention of both domestic and international travellers”, Shifeta emphasised. He calls upon investors in the tourism industry
to invest in community based tourism by incorporating both the cultural and heritage elements. Namibia is a nation with a diverse cultural heritage which many travelers are interested to learn about. Shifeta said: “Indeed, there are so many hidden gems among our own communities. There are so many untold stories in our communities that we can use as marketing
tools to attract the more intrepid traveler”. He continued: “In everything we do, the quality of service provided should be of a standard that meets the requirements of present day national, regional and international tourism. Therefore Namibia's marketing strategy must be demand driven and innovative”. The ministry is striving for a type of tourism that sustains or enhances the
geographical character of the place being visited, including its environment, culture, aesthetics, heritage and the well-being of all Namibians. This applies especially to the hidden gems. The meeting was attended by hotel owners, bed and breakfast owners, owners of lodges and other stakeholders in the hospitality industry of Namibia.

African Union Cargo and its Partners unveil Business Park in Walvis Bay
One of the major role players in the Zambian Dry Port at Walvis Bay, African Union Cargo, unveiled its AUC & Partners Business Park in the harbour town yesterday. The Business Park is a partnership between AUC, Union International Link Sino-Africa, Ogefrem and Jiangsu Golden Coast. The Partnership seeks to increase the efficiency of trade movement between Southern Africa and China, with specific emphasis on the Zambian Dry Port that is situated in the port of Walvis Bay.

British man begins epic challenge in Henties Bay, Namibia 94 marathons in 94 days, running from Namibia to Mozambique, adventure runner, Brendan Rendall, is running across Africa from Namibia to Mozambique. Rendall began his epic challenge in Hentie's Bay on 3 June and has been running Northeast through Namibia and has already passed Otjiwarongo and Grootfontein and is currently heading northeast towards Rundu (estimated arrival in Rundu 2627 June). From Rundu he will continue, along the Caprivi strip and into Zambia at Katima Mulilo. From Zambia Rendall will cross into Malawi and finally run through Mozambique to Pemba on the East coast of Africa. The anticipated finish date is 26 August. Brendan plans to run at least one marathon (42km) every day, until he and his team reach the coast of Mozambique. He will complete his challenge around the end of August 2018 having run 94 marathons in 94 days, with a Total distance of 4000km and average miles per day of 26.2 miles. Libby Bowle (42), is Rendall's support cyclist who is also a teacher and adventurer from Wiltshire, UK and has recently cycled around New Zealand speaking at schools to raise awareness about plastics in the ocean. Rendall and his team are self-supporting camping enroute. The primary aim of the challenge is to raise N$ 1.3 million (£75k) to build vital hostel accommodation for vulnerable orphans at the 'Friends of Mulanje Orphans' (FOMO) secondary school in Malawi. Running between 40 and 50 km most days means rising at 5am to beat the mid-day heat. “Physically, it is an enormously tough challenge,” said Rendall; “Combatting sand storms, wild animals, extreme temperatures and illness, but the purpose of the fundraising keeps my mind focussed on the final goal.” He went on by saying, “It is my first time visiting Namibia and the stunning landscape of this beautiful country has taken my breath
away, but the most remarkable part of the journey has definitely been the kindness and generosity of the Namibian people – this has been extremely over-
whelming; strangers have invited us to stay in their homes, mended our equipment and welcomed us to their family dinner tables – we owe the people of this great

Three year partnership for Shack Dwellers
Rudi Bowe The three year partnership of Ohorongo Cement, Pupkewitz Foundation, and FNB Namibia Holdings Foundation Trust, currently in its second year collectively contributed Nine Million Namibian Dollars for a 3 year period to the Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia. To date, they have built 185 houses, country wide. Carina Sowden, at the second round volunteer's event of the earthworks for the Shack Dwellers in Narraville, on behalf of the three partners, congratulated the Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia for identifying the dire need in our community and for working towards making a change. What we are doing today is a true demonstration of the slogan “One Namibia, One Nation”. The Harambee Prosperity Plan, Namibia's development map aimed at leading the country towards prosperity, calls for the construction of houses nationwide. The three main partners also inspired others to join, and brought Neo Paints, The Baard Group and SureMix CPP on board. On behalf of the partners she said: “We believe in effective partnerships for a sustainable future. Our aim is to support our Government's developmental policies that are geared towards solving our nation's pressing challenges, such as affordable housing, and that is why we are proud to be part of this initiative, and applaud all of your efforts in ensuring housing for Namibia's low income families, which is community driven.” The three partners said that they cannot accept the fact that thousands of people reside in informal dwellings, when they know that something can be done, if they put the right mechanisms in place. Housing can contribute to improved livelihoods by creating wealth and security so that low income households are not trapped in the same cycle of poverty. For these partners, it is a privilege to be on board to assist the Federation in accelerating housing delivery to low income Namibians. Through these partnerships, many people today have a piece of land and a roof over their heads, which has a positive impact on them. This is a clear indication of the support and collaboration between all those that are determined to see a Namibia, where all can equally enjoy the fruits of our independence. On behalf of the Ohorongo Otavi Community Trust, Sowden said “We at Ohorongo Cement, assure you that the cement we produce is of consistent superior quality, and we can assure you that your houses will be built with strong foundations that will last for generations to come. At Ohorongo, execution is
key, and to help accelerate the construction of houses in Narraville, we are also committing to provide a container to store the Ohorongo Cement and other building materials, which you will need for the construction of your houses, onsite. With this, we hope to keep the momentum going. On behalf of all the partners, Sowden further said that they are hoping to inspire others to also come
on board to affect a bigger change at an increased tempo. “This project has the ability to have a lighthouse effect and could change the lives of many Namibians, whilst also having a positive effect on the local economy.” We, the partners, believe in effective partnerships for a sustainable future, aimed at viable, innovative and sustainable solutions, specifically aimed at the provision of housing.

Kudus beat Wanderers Rudi Bowe Kudus beat FNB Wanderers 34-11 in the Namibia Rugby Union (NRU) Premier League at Narraville Stadium in Walvis Bay on Saturday. In the first half Aurelio Plato was successful with three penalty goals and a try by Lloyd Jacobs give Kudus 146 half-time lead. The 6 points of Wanderers come from the boot of Jamie Joseph. The second half Kuvare Sam went over for a try for with Jamie Joseph unsuccessful with the conversion. Loyde Jacobs scored his second try. Plato was unsuccessful with the conversion. Ivo Croza and Anthony Jevu each score a try with Aurelio Plato was successful with only one conversions and he add one more penalties for their 34 points on the day. The assistant coach of Kudus Mr. Zane Jansen said
after the game that he is happy with the way the game was played and that the players kept to the game plan and that their plan is to play a home semi-final. He is not happy with some of the decisions that the referees are making and would like to sit with the referees to talk about the rules. The Baby Warriors will only have to go and compete for the regional title in Mauritius next month, but also have to fight for a place at next year's continental under 17 finals as the 2018 COSAFA Under-17 Championships where winners will qualify for the finals to be staged in Tanzania in 2019. Namibia, winners in 2016, are preparing to go and compete at the 2018 Cosafa Under-17 Championships to be held in Mauritius from 19 to 29 July. Cosafa announced in February that the winners of the COSAFA U/17 tournament will qualify for the final tournament for the continental championships to be hosted by Tanzania in May 2019. Paul Shakes Malembu, who this week worked with 26 players, will face the host Mauritius in Group A, as well as Botswana and the Seychelles with the group winner advancing to the semi-finals, while the runner up, determined first by the number of
points obtained, advance from the group stages to the semi-finals. Mauritius is hosting this championship for the third time in a row, and for local fans, it will be an opportunity first-hand to see the brightest young talents from the region on display. The draw for the finals was made at the recent COSAFA Cup senior men's competition in South Africa, and has produced three intriguing groups. Group B promises to be a hard-fought win with defending champions Zambia up against regional powerhouse rivals South Africa, Mozambique and Lesotho. Group C also has an
unpredictable air about it as Zimbabwe faces-off against Angola, Malawi and Swaziland. Matches will be played at the Auguste Vollaire Stadium in Flacq and St Francois Xavier Stadium in the Mauritian capital of Port Louis and Namibia and Seychelles will open the tournament on July 19 in Port Louis, with the pool stage to continue every day until July 25.
