Workers of the Delta Group, which got the contract to construct houses for the Mass Housing Development Programme on the north-eastern outskirts of Swakopmund, have threatened to burn down the houses if the company does not pay them by today.
On Wednesday the workers gathered at the site and lit various small fires “to warn the company owner” and wanted to burn down the houses starting at 17:00 that day. “We have not been paid for four months,” said one worker, Gerson Hamutenya, to namib times. The police arrived on scene and managed to diffuse the situation. The workers extended their deadline up until today.

In Namibia, if you don't own a house, you are nobody. “If you don't have a house, nobody will respect you, because you have nothing.” This was said by Bobby Kandjala, special advisor to Governor of Erongo, Cleophas Mutjavikua, in Henties Bay yesterday. Kandjala was speaking during the hand-over of 28 houses constructed under the Build-Together scheme to their new owners. Silvia Makgone, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development, made a similar statement. “When people don't have houses, they don't have value. You have no collateral to apply for a loan at the bank and therefore have no economic status. You have zero economic status,” Makgone said. Kandjala, who was speaking before the Minister, said that “being a resident of town without a house is like a child without a parent”. The 28 houses are part of the first lot of a total of 50 houses built under the Build Together Scheme in the coastal town which were handed over to their new owners. The project was financed by the municipality, who invested a total of N$4 million and the Built Together fund, which contributed N$1.2 million. Besides the Build Together houses there are 50 more houses constructed under the Mass House Development Programme in Henties Bay. 20 of these have been handed over so far. The beneficiaries of the houses were overly joyed when they received the keys to their new homes. Some were crying with joy, having waited for years already. “I applied for a house in 2010. It's been six years now and I am extremely happy,” said Richelin Guriras, the first beneficiary. “I stayed in a pondokkie, but now I have a home. Eks baie bly,” she added.

A milestone for the regional electricity distributor Erongo RED: Yesterday the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of a three Megawatt (MW) solar energy power plant at Arandis took place – the plant is expected to be in operation by June 2017. The new solar power plant is being built by OLC Arandis Solar Energy, a Joint Venture between O&L Energy (a subsidiary of the Ohlthaver & List Group), its strategic partner Cronimet Mining Power Solutions GmbH and the Women of Destiny Trust. The plant will consist of over 10 000 poly-crystalline photovoltaic (PV) panels. “The sooner we get to a place where we are no longer dependent on other suppliers beyond our borders, the faster we will be able to take complete control of where we are headed. This 3 Megawatt solar power plant is a big step in that direction. I look forward to even brighter days and a future embraced with even more innovations,” said Erongo Governor Cleophas Mutjavikua during the ceremony. He added that this forms part of the company's proactive efforts to address continuous electricity cost increases and cushioning the impact thereof to its customers. “At Erongo RED we are committed to diversify our energy mix in order to ensure that the electricity consumers reap benefits emanating from renewable energy.” During the event O&L Group Executive Chairman, Sven Thieme, highlighted on various projects so far embarked on by O&L in its quest to adopt and adjust to renewable energy. Amongst others he mentioned NBL's investment of N$53 million into a Biomass boiler to reduce reliance on HFO. “Our aim is to contribute to improving Namibia's energy situation and to increase the supply of renewable energy generated locally, decreasing our dependency on electricity imports from neighbouring countries,” he said. CRONIMET and its local subsidiaries will mount over ten thousand poly-crystalline photovoltaic (PV) panels to a horizontal single axis tracking system for a total capacity of 3.843 MW. The Arandis PV power plant will produce over 9 000 MW hours of emission free electricity for Erongo RED per year. It will be connected to ErongoRed's transmission station and will supply the coastal region with 25 years of electricity generated from the sun.

According to detective inspector Erastus Iikuyu, police regional crime co-ordinator for Erongo, the alleged offence took place sometime between the year 2015 and November 2016. “It is alleged that the suspect took four minor girls (eleven, 13, 14 and 16 years old) to different places within Swakopmund on different occasions and let them play with his private part. He then allegedly paid them money in return,” Iikuyu said. The police started investigating the case after neighbours of the victims informed their parents about an “old man who used to come on several occasions to their house and pick up the victims.” “The neighbours have done a great job, good observations,” Iikuyu said. Magistrate Nelao Brown postponed the case to 8 February 2017 for further police investigations. Fourie will remain in custody. Prosecutor Paulus Shilongo objected that bail be granted out of fear that the accused may interfere with the witnesses. An application for a formal bail hearing at a later stage was granted though. Link between jewellery theft and Karibib robbery Erwin Leuschner The police has not made any arrests, nor recovered any of the stolen jewellery which was robbed on Monday night at the Swakopmund jeweller Indigo Blue. Three suspects got away with jewellery valued at more than N$500 000 after smashing the display window during the thunderstorm. “We are urgently requesting the public for assistance in tracing the stolen jewellery and the suspects,” said police detective inspector Erastus Iikuyu, acting crime investigations co-ordinator for Erongo, to namib times. The break-in took place on Monday night at 12:30. “I got a call from our security company, G4S, at exactly that time,” said manager Libania Henckert. Exactly four minutes after the alarm was triggered the security guards were on scene, but a large amount of the precious jewellery and the suspects were long gone already. It is suspected that three suspects smashed the shatterproof window using sledgehammers. Footage from a camera inside the shop shows three silhouettes standing outside. After breaking the display glass they grabbed various jewellery pieces, consisting of rings, pendants set with various precious stones. “All our jewellery is custom made,” Henckert continued. A few pieces were left behind indicating that the thieves were in a hurry. Henckert believes that they used the unusual thunderstorm that night to mask the sound of the smashing window. Indigo Blue moved into the shop in 2012. The shop is situated in Daniel Tjongarero Street next to the popular coffee shop Bojo's. Detective inspector Iikuyu called on the public for assistance in the matter. According to police reports the total value of the stolen jewellery is N$332 058. Speculations are ripe that the thieves in this matter were the same suspects that committed an armed robbery in Karibib on 12 November. According to Iikuyu six male suspects wearing balaclavas entered the house of Mr Albert Roux in the morning between 08:00 and 10:00. They held the domestic worker at gunpoint and demanded money. “They cut open two big safes with a cutting torch and get away with 200 Euro, 200 pounds and N$9 000, three Canon camera's, three watches citizen titanium and black aviator, a cell phone, that belongs to the domestic worker, one.45mm star pistol (serial no. 1804972),” Iikuyu said. The Culprits used a get-away car (white Ford fiesta hatchback). The total value of the stolen items is about N$120 000. No arrest have been made as yet.

Ministry still considering allowing export of live marine mammals Environmental activism group, Anti Plunder Action Group, voiced its renewed concerns this week over the continued presence of a Russian ship within port limits in Walvis Bay, awaiting official blessing from the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources for the live capture and export of dolphins, seals, orca whales, penguins and other marine life for the aquarium trade in Asia. Earlier this week the fisheries ministry is quoted in the media as it is still considering this application. We are highly concerned over this matter�, a spokesperson for the Group explained. Adding the marine phosphate issue overshadowed this live export of marine mammals public for several weeks, but that the Group would not be distracted in its demand for Namibia not allowing for the live export of marine mammals to Asia. They are strong supporter on youth advocacy and youth empowerment. The Organisation jointly with Ministry of Youth and National Services envisaged holding its first ever Erongo Regional Youth Conference from 28 to 29 November in Walvis Bay, Erongo Region. The primary objective of this conference is to bring children and parents together to enhance relationship and further to address the social evils like HIV/Aids, drugs and alcohol abuse, gender violence and teenage pregnancy which are prevalent in our society as well as to unite in the fight against poverty eradication. Man kann es sowohl auf speziellen Lesegeräten, den E-Book-Readern, als auch auf Computern, Tablets und Smartphones lesen. Und sie sind wesentlich billiger als richtige Bücher. Ich weiss nicht, wie Sie es empfinden, aber ich komme mir manchmal wie eine aussterbende Art vor, wenn ich diese ,,Buchgädgetts” sehe, diese unheimlich effektiven Lesegeräte, die nicht nach Papier duften, die keine attraktiven Eselsohren haben und die man nicht am Strand oder auf einer Gästefarm einfach ausgelesen lie-

Mein Bücherregal riecht voll nach Staub und Pergamentpapier, ich kann die Abenteuer des kanadischen Kapitäns und Arktisforschers Robert Bartlett in “Packeis” er- bzw.

An der Atlantikküste,in der Namibwüste The Dome Serenity Spa eröffnet Meteor in Walvis Bay Swakopmund (sk) Seit April war die gebürtige Swakopmunderin Carmen Mette dabei, “ihre” Wellnesseinrichtung in der zweiten Etage des gigantischen Swakopmunder Bauwunders The Dome zu planen. Dabei hatte die an einer der besten Kosmetikfachschulen Südafrikas, der Isa Carstens Academy in Stellenbosch, ausgebildete junge Dame ganz feste Vorstellungen. Manchmal musste sie sich in ihrem Vorhaben auch mal gegen den Entwickler und Gründer von The Dome, ihren Onkel Horst Fritze, durchsetzen. Das Resultat ist ein Wohlfühlort in sanften Pastellfarben, der beim Eintreten sofort zur Entspannung einlädt. Die Kosmetikprodukte aus Südafrika und Amerika, die in dem SPA zum Verkauf ani-

The Goodyear Tyre & Rubber Company's Eagle-360 concept tyre has been named one of Time magazine's "Best Inventions of the Year 2016.� Each year, Timemagazine's technology editors list the year's "best inventions that are making the world better, smarter and-in some cases-a little more fun." This year's list includes 25 inventions, which in addition to Goodyear's Eagle-360 concept, includes a virtual reality headset, shoes that lace themselves, a solar roof collaboration between Tesla and SolarCity, and the Chevy Bolt electric vehicle. "By steadily reducing the driver interaction and intervention in self-driving vehicles, tyres will play an even more important role as the primary link to the road," said Goodyear's Chief Technical Officer Joe Zekoski. "Goodyear's concept tyres play a dual role in that future both as creative platforms to push the boundaries of conventional thinking and testbeds for nextgeneration technologies." The Goodyear Eagle-360 is a spherical-shaped design concept tyre that would provide self-driving cars ultimate maneuverability, connectivity and biomimicry to increase safety. An

HILUX SRX HITS THE GYM
The Toyota Hilux range remains one of SA's favourite vehicles, with the new model having racked up over 30 000 units since introduction in February this year. Top-ping sales charts on a consistent basis, the monthly sales figures are testament to South African's love, respect and trust for the 'bakkie'. The vehicle market can be a strange beast, with varying trends, buying patterns and market forces shaping it. To this end Toyota has analysed the market carefully and as the company prides itself on being customerfocused, conducted indepth customer research. As a result of this approach, Toyota is pleased to introduce the upgra-ded Hilux SRX models.
Beefed-up Body The most significant change comes in the form of the change from the previous 'narrowbody' design to the new 'wide-body' construction. Metaphorically speaking, the Hilux SRX has been subjected to a rigorous gym exercise programme, with the result that it now stands wider, taller and more prominent. The change to the wideconfiguration, brings along with it bold, integrated over-fenders (as seen on existing Raider models) paired with a wider, front bumper design. This re-profiled exterior adds 55mm to the width of Single-cab and Double-cab SRX derivatives (up to 1855mm). Xtra-cab models already boast the 'widebody' construction, and
as such all three body shapes now share the same exterior width dimension. The exterior mirrors inherit turn signal lamps, whilst retaining the durable matte black treatment and electric adjustment. Inch-up Alloy Wheels The exterior faรงade is enhanced with a change to wider-track 17" alloy wheels (previously steel wheels), shod with 265/65/R17 all-terrain rubber (an increase from the current 225/70/R17 specified items). The new wheels are shared with the Raider grade, lending the SRX some solid street cred. Dimensional 'Gains' As many fitness enthusiasts will testify to, it's all about the gains. In this regard the 'pumped-up' SRX's vital stats definitely measure up.

Inline Hockey Qualifiers for the National League Championships The sixth and final NIIHA league tournament was held 4-6th November at The Dome in Swakopmund. The various teams from the five clubs across the country battled it out in their final chance to determine who would finish first place in their division, and which teams would make the National League Championship play-offs. Bryan Robbins (Cazadores team coach) says he is proud of his 8U team who beat the previously undefeated Scorpions in a very
exciting, very close game. Six league tournaments were held throughout the year to determine the top four seeds in the A-league amongst the teams from the five clubs in the country. For the junior divisions there was also a Bleague, the winners of which may challenge the fourth seed of the A-league to give them a chance to make it into the semi-finals.
The Coastal Pirates qualified a team in every division - the only club to do that, even having two teams in the 12U A division! The club achieved first place in seven of the divisions. The Coastal Pirates 12UA team and 14U team remain undefeated all season, with the 14U team scoring an impressive 94 goals in national league matches this season, with only one goal against them.

Members of golf clubs who have reached the age of 50 are eligible to join. SAGES enjoy the opportunity of fellowship with other senior golfers, and are contributing to charity and or organisations that are in need for funding and thereby helping all levels of society.
The SAGES Windhoek Branch fundraiser was once again a huge success as the Cancer Association of Namibia, Hope Villlage Center, Katutura Old Age Home, Save the Rhino Trust as well as the SPCA will be the beneficiaries from the proceeds of N$ 90000. The foundation for succes was laid with Business Connexion Namibia as well as Ren-nies as main sponsors and valuable contributions from Fancourt, House of Wines, Westcon, Tarsus, AON, Old Mutual, Omeya and Windhoek Golf Clubs. The national finals in the NIIHA league will take place at the Badgers Inline Hockey Club at the Windhoek Showgrounds this weekend, 25-27 November 2016.

Real Madrid Foundation and The Dome Swakopmund Partner to launch football clinics in Namibia Real Madrid Foundation, the social arm of the Real Madrid part of the revenue from these clinics will go to thrilled to announce the launch of Real CF, unveils its prestigious training clinics in Namibia this support social charity activities projects by the Madrid's Foundation clinics here in Real Madrid Foun-dation in Swakopmund.
