Erwin Leuschner The power supply to various parts of Swakopmund, especially the central business district (cbd), has for the past few days been continuously interrupted. It caused considerable disruptions to businesses. Diplomatic history is in the making. A cruiser (anti-submarine), a naval tug and an auxiliary ship of the Russian Navy are scheduled to call at the port of Walvis Bay over the weekend. It is the first visit of the Russian Navy to Namibia. The cruiser Severomorsk will be open for a public visit on Sunday between 10:00 and 13:00, a representative explained this week. Entry permits from Namport can be purchased by the public at the security office of the main gate at N$5-75. Members of the public are also advised Namport has a zerotolerance alcohol policy and all visitors will be screened.
Five month old baby boy dies after being left home alone for 13 hours Mother faces murder charge Sharlien Tjambari A five months old baby died in Kuisebmond in Walvis Bay on Wednesday, after the 29-year old mother left the child alone at home for thirteen hours. The mother now faces a charge of murder. The incident happened in David Hambunda Street. The mother, who is employed by a security company, left for work on 22 March at 05:00 and returned home at 18:00 and found the child died. According to Deputy Commissioner Ottilie Kashuupulwa, police regional crime investigations co-ordinator for Erongo, the lady told Nampol that the baby was not feeling well by the time she left for work and she was supposed to come back
home to take the baby to the clinic. She never returned. “She left the house at 05:00 and return home at 18:00 only to discover that the baby had died. A case of murder, alternative culpable homicide and negligence was opened and the lady is expected to appear in court today (Friday)” said Kashuupulwa.

“The problem has to do with multiple cable faults supplying electricity to the cbd,” explained Benjamin Nangombe, Public Relations & Marketing Officer at Erongo RED. Nangombe said yesterday to namib times that solving problem is currently the highest priority, which is why Erongo RED has dispatched additional technicians from Walvis Bay on Wednesday to investigate the exact cause and find a solution. “Some of the faults have been identified and the technicians are working on them,” he said. According to him the current issues have no connection with the planned power outage, which affected certain areas of Swakopmund on Sunday. The power outage was initiated to give NamPower the opportunity to perform tests on the Swakopmund Substation transformers. The first unplanned power outage hit the CBD and areas of Kramersdorf again on Independence Day. “That problem was quickly identified and repaired,” Nangombe said. Erongo RED experienced the multiple cable failures on Wednesday morning. The power supply to various areas of Swakopmund, including some northern suburbs as well, has been sporadically interrupted ever since. “We experienced many power surges on Wednesday resulting in various circuit breakers and a control box burning out,” said Ilse Marais from the Platz Am Meer shopping centre to namib times. Although the shopping centre has back-up generators, these only kick in when the power supply is interrupted, but does not protect against surges. “We are not happy that we weren't warned that there are issues with the power supply. We could have prepared ourselves better as we have a lot of sensitive equipment in the mall,” she added. According to him some issues in certain areas have been resolved, but others are still being investigated. Yesterday the power supply to areas in the CBD cut off sporadically over the course of the morning. By 11:00 the power supply to some big businesses and surrounding areas, including the Strand Hotel, PicknPay, Spur, FNB, the Dome and the sport fields was still off. Man collapses and dies in street On Monday this week a man was found dead in Tulinawa Extension 4 in Mondesa at around 16:00. The body was lying in the street. Deputy Commissioner Ottilie Kashuupulwa, police regional crime investigations co-ordinator for Erongo, confirmed the incident and explained the man was identified as Andreas Salomo (67). “On Monday, 20 March, Andreas was apparently walking and he just collapsed and fell down. He died instantly. His next of kin were informed and an autopsy will be conducted to find out his cause of death” said Kashuupulwa.

Security guard assaulted for daring to inquire over his salary in arrears Sharlien Tjambari Fillemon Haufiku (35) a security guard at ASST Security Company since July 2016 was brutally assaulted by his supervisor on Wednesday after a fight occurred during a meeting which was called by the manager/boss of ASST and the manager of Safari Projects. According to Haufiku ASST have not paid him his salary since December 2016 and the reason the Manager always gives him is that Safari Projects have not paid ASST and that is the reason why he (Fillemon) is not paid and they say they (ASST) do not have money to pay him. Fillemon works every-day 18:00-06:00. Fille-mon however does not know whether the other guy who guards the place during the day is also having the same problem or not. Even though Fillemon was not paid at the end of December and January, he says he continued working because ASST Security Company has a no work no pay policy and he was afraid if he miss work he will not receive his salary. “Since I started, the company would sometimes pay me half of my salary and promise to pay up the rest but they never bring their end of the deal” said Haufiku. On Monday, 13 March, Haufiku received a phone call from his boss, a certain Mr. Koch, who he said is his boss, instructing Haufiku to meet him at Safari Projects at 14:00 on Wednesday, the call further said the reason for the meeting was to go and get money from the Owner of Safari Projects. Haufiku was apparently excited to hear the great news and when Wednesday came he made sure to be there on time. Upon arrival he noticed that his supervisor was also present, together with the manager of ASST Se-curity and the owner of Safari Projects. They allegedly went into the office in which a quarrel transpired between the two bosses and the supervisor because the manager of Safari Projects was not happy with ASST services and with the supervisor because he told the supervisor to tell the guards to start from 17:00-06:00 instead of six-six, and that was the reason he apparently didn't pay the security company. It was upon that time that the supervisor turned to Haufiku and started accusing him of arson because someone apparently tried burning his
Fillemon Haufiku - allegedly beaten up shack over the weekend and Haufiku asked him how it could have been him because he was at a church function all weekend. “I also asked him why he have not been to the police if he thought it was me. To that he got very defensive and told me not to backchat him and threatened to kill me even in front of the bosses, he started kicking me and hitting me with fists. He pushed me against the wall and to the floor and had his feet at my neck and said he will kill me if I do not say it was me who tried burning his shack, it was only then that the manager of the security company demanded him to leave me alone” said Haufiku. They allegedly left Haufiku on the floor while bleeding and continued discussing their issues. He was apparently on the floor bleeding from mouth and nose for close to an hour until he regained his strength and came to his senses which was at 16:00. According to him he asked them to at least drop him at the hospital and then to the police station for him to open a case and to that they threatened him that if he opens a case then the supervisor will also go open a case of arson. They eventually took him to the police station where he wanted to give his statement but was told that they cannot attend to him while he was bleeding and was given a form to take along to the hospital in order for him to get treated. He received medical treatment and was told to go back to the hospital for a check-up after 7 day because his left ear was affected and he cannot hear well. “Yesterday I asked about my salary again
and the manager via text message said 'I have to go back to that boss and he must work out our money. I have nothing yet', I am still waiting to see if they will pay me what they owe me or not and I have decided not to go back to work following the incident that took place” adds the sad and disappointed Haufiku. namib times got hold of the Manager of ASST Protection Security to find out what really let to the assault on Haufiku, because Haufiku claim that the manager was also in the room during the time the supervisor attacked him, the Manager who identified himself as Koch said he does not want to comment on such things. “If you say it was a story of assault then the right person to talk to would be the police, I will not be interrogated by a newspaper” Koch added. He however did not deny not knowing Haufiku or whatsoever. namib times also got hold of the Owner of Safari Projects but he denied ever having a security guard guarding his premises and said all this years he have been guarded by G4S only and is not aware of such a company. A case number CR31/03/2017 was re-corded at Swakopmund Police Station. The region that keeps on giving, to get more Development Bank to stimulate growth in Erongo region Development Bank of Namibia (DBN) Erongo Portfolio Manager, Simeon Unotjari Kahona, has announced that the
Bank is seeking opportunities to stimulate more demand for finance in the Erongo region. In terms of the Bank's additional focus on infrastructure and business projects, identified in the Harambee Prosperity Plan (HPP), the Bank will seek out projects promoted by private entrepreneurs, through public private partnerships (PPPs), as well as projects identified by the regional council and local authorities. However the Bank
will also seek to finance projects that are unique to the economy of the Erongo region. Talking about the requirement for energy, noted in HPP, Kahona says that the Bank has advanced N$280 million to Erongo RED to ensure supply of electricity, financing was also advanced for Arandis solar project and is also engaged in project finance to secure bulk fuel supply for Namibia. Among the additional projects that the Bank
envisages financing are local authority projects, through PPPs, to develop serviced land, for affordable housing. Kahona adds that the Bank will also finance social infrastructure in Erongo, noting that economic development should walk hand-in-hand with socio-economic development, if greater levels of economic activity are to be of benefit to citizens of the region. Kahona also says that the region has the potential to strengthen
its own internal economy to serve the needs and wants of its enterprises. The Bank believes there is more opportunity to finance light engineering industry that services marine enter-prises and the transport and logistics sector, the developing energy sector, and the marine Products processing subsector. These projects should have an annual turnover, or projected annual turnover, of N$10 million or more. In terms of local consumer de-
mand, Kahona announced N$25 million in finance for local food manufacturing, for African Deli, an enterprise established to manufacture instant meals with an African flair. This, he says, shows that there is potential in Erongo to fulfill regional demand, that can extend nationally and further into the SADC market.Kahona concludes by saying that Erongo is a region that keeps on giving to Namibia's national economy, and the Bank treats it as a gateway
for development in light of this. In the period between 2004 to January 2017, the Bank has provided more than N$4,4 billion in finance to the region. In line with its national gateway status, the majority of that finance, N$3,3 billion was allocated to transport and logistics. This was followed by allocation of N$451 million to the electricity sector and N$197 million to business services.

Rowan Swartz (22) appeared on charges of driving with an excessive blood alcohol level and escaping from lawful custody. Swartz allegedly crashed the vehicle he was driving into another vehicle and then into a garden wall. He allegedly fled the scene of the accident. The incident occurred in Ocean View on Saturday 18 March. Deputy Commissioner Ottilie Kashuupulwa, police regional crime investigations co-ordinator for Erongo yesterday confirmed that Swartz was driving a Toyota Corolla with registration number N6596SH on Saturday morning at 05:09 when he failed to stop at a stop sign in Ocean View on Boabab Street. Swartz allegedly hit an Isuzu pick-up and the impact resulted in both cars crashing into the perimeter wall of house number 1619 in Extension 22 of Ocean View. According to Kashuupulwa, the Toyota Corolla was carrying 3 passengers who escaped injuries. The driver of the Isuzu and his passenger were also unhurt. Swartz sustained minor injuries on the leg and arm and was admitted to hospital. At hospital, he told the police officer who was guarding him that he was going to the toilet. He then he escaped, but he was later apprehended�, Kashuupulwa explained. A case of drunken driving, malicious damage to property and escape was registered with Nampol. The matter was remanded to 12 April for further investigation and Swartz remains in custody.

Stone factory trucks tip over Piquet Jacobs
Two tipper trucks tipped over on the D1983 (Rooibank road) near the stone quarry on Wednesday. The cause of the two accidents only minutes apart is believed to have been caused by the slippery road surface after it was graded and sprayed with water. No injuries were reported.

Swakopmund learners celebrate World Water Day with NACOMA and other stakeholders Sharlien Tjambari
The Namibian Coast Conservation and Management (NACOMA) Project together with various Coastal Stakeholders commemorated World Water Day at the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources with school learners from various schools in Swakopmund. World Water Day is globally commemorated or celebrated annually on 22 March. The day focuses on the importance of universal access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene facilities in developing countries and also focuses on advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources. According to Mr Abraham Ashipala of Namwater, World Water Day is commemorated for a number of reasons, namely, to celebrate water and life to promote public awareness on values of our water resources, to promote the wise use of water resources, to draw attention of the public to the threat and pressure to our water resources and to enhance people's understanding of water resources and our shared responsibilities towards resources, as well as to encourage communities particularly the youth to get involved in the wise use and management of water. A series of exciting events aimed at raising awareness and education on water related issues focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources were incorporated in this year's celebration. The theme for this year is: “WASTE WATER”. Ashipala further said that 97% of the Earth's water
is salty water and only 3% of the earth's water is safe for drinking. He said Namibia is a very dry country with very little water and people need to be educated on the safe use of water because water is a nonrenewable resource, once water is finished then it is gone and cannot be replaced. Ashipala continued saying that having a number of water saving measures in place which include inspections of pipelines regularly fixing of pipes leakages and breaks, replacement of ageing infrastructure, and doing water balance. “We are polluting and wasting fresh water that is available, yet the population and development keep growing. We cannot continue using water the way we do as water is unsustainable” said Ashipala. This year the commemoration targeted school learners because NACOMA beliefs in educating learners because the learners are the future generation said Iina Ruben a NACOMA Young Professional. Other stakeholders present were officials from Nadeet and Namwater as well as representatives from the Swakopmund Municipality's department of environmental health services.

Woman in near drowning incident at Langstrand A lady of an unknown age managed to escape certain death on Sunday while swimming in the ocean in the vicinity of Langstrand. According to the West Coast Safety Initiative the lady was swept away by the strong current and ended up in trouble and soon thereafter was unable to reach shore on her own. Friends came to her rescue in a nick of time when she started disappearing under the water. She was initially unconscious when she was pulled from the water but regained consciousness while enroute to hospital in Swakopmund. Heatwave bordering 50 Degrees Celsius hits parts of the coast A heat wave coupled with scorching temperatures bordering the 50°C-mark has hit various parts of the coast of Namibia. Medical practitioners warn residents to take extra care during this extreme heat phase. Boy shoots little girl in the eye with pistol A six-year old girl from Walvis Bay is being treated in the Katutura State Hospital for a gunshot wound, after she was accidentally shot in the eye by a ten year-old boy in Kuisebmond on Friday afternoon. To the Editor 12 March 2017 Namib Times Dear Sir Recently we have seen that foreigners have more privileges in Namibia to that extend that the SME bank is rotten with corruption and Zimbabwians are preferred over Namibians to do basic jobs that Namibians can easily do. This is shocking that Zimbabwians even crocked the health system and yet the SWAPO government turns a blind eye. We are writing to you from the Narraville holding cells where this practise of foreigners being treated like royalty and Namibians like shit is at the order of the day. On a daily basis Zambians serve us Namibians food and they do so as if we are Rabies stricken dogs. They seem to be comrades with the police officers and they are treated as if they committed no crimes but yet they are in these cells for more than 9 months without bail this obviously means they have committed serious crimes. We personally feel that it enshrine in the constitution of Namibia that we are innocent until proven guilty, and as such we should be treated accordingly. From the Narraville holding cells we implore, lets make Namibians great again, Namibians serving Namibians with dignity. Drought the main reason to relocate this tourism treasure THE WILD HORSES OF THE NAMIB MAY DISAPPEAR Namibia's wild horses have lived in the desert for 100 years. They are one of the top ten tourist attractions in Namibia and they “embody the spirit of Namibia”. They have contributed to the promotion of Namibia as a destination and have been the subject of a number of documentaries about the country. The horses are also part of Namibia's history and heritage and are genetically differentiated from other horse breeds. Twenty-two years of research has shown that the number of wild horses has varied due to changes in rainfall, often with many dying during droughts. Donations from the generous national and international public that came to over N$1.5 million, have been used to buy food for them and as a result, there have been no deaths directly caused by malnutrition in the last two years. The supplementary feed has kept them going although it is still marginal. Now, as well as having to cope with a serious lack of grazing from the latest drought, predation by hyaenas is threatening the survival of the wild horses in the Garub area of the Namib Naukluft National Park. No foal has survived since 2013 and the horse population has steadily dropped. Due to the drought, most of the other migratory game has moved north and east looking for greener pastures which leaves mainly only horses to prey on in the
Garub area. Therefore, the rate of predation has increased significantly during the past two months. The number of mares is down to 42 and we estimate that at this rate the population will be “functionally extinct” (some may still be around but it's inevitable that they will go extinct) by August. Obviously, something has to be done without delay if the horses are to be saved. Killing the hyaenas is not an option. In a National Park this would be unethical. The alternatives are either to move the hyaenas or to move the horses. The Namibia Wild Horses Foundation and the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, with input from the Hyaena Research groups, arrived at a conclusion that is hopefully best for both species. The MET's primary objective of maintaining natural populations in a National Park rules out the possibility of relocating the hyaenas. Not only would this be difficult to justify but would be a fundamentally short term option as the vacuum would most probably be filled by other hyaenas. However, it was agreed that a solution that would be best for both the hyaenas and the horses (or at least the large majority of them) is to move the horses, leaving the hyaenas to survive as before, by feeding on natural prey species such as oryx. The immediate need is to take the pressure off the horses so to start with, the hyaenas will be provided with alternative prey that will be sourced from farms for as short a period as possible. This will give the Foundation time to find suitable land that could be
‘Unite to end TB’ theme of World TB Day

The world will be commemorating World TB Day today under the theme 'Unite to end TB'. The Ministry of Health and Social Services, made a statement that the event will be commemorated in Opuwo in the Kunene region. World TB Day is designed to build public awareness that tuberculosis today remains an epidemic in much of the world, causing the deaths of nearly one-and-a-half million people each year, mostly in developing countries. The first World TB Day celebration meeting was held by the WHO and the Royal Netherlands Tuberculosis Foundation in the year 1995 in Den Haag, Netherlands where it was declared to be celebrated annually. Next year in 1996, various organizations like WHO, the IUATLD and KNCV had organised variety of events and activities to conduct the World TB Day celebration. The Namibia Fish Consumption Promotion Trust (NFCPT) recently donated N$50 000 to assist the Government of the Republic of Namibia through the Ministry of Health and Social Services, aimed at enhancing the quality of life against the national epidemic of TB. The donation will go towards an advertising campaign on the hosting of the World TB Day 2017 which will be commemorated at the Kunene region in Opuwo on 24 March. “It remains our collective responsibility to ensure that we promote activities which will bolster social inclusion of all Namibians into the economic mainstream. It is only the guarantees of a healthy workforce that we can have productive citizens, which will aim towards the attainment of our National Development Goals, as well as the Harambee Prosperity Plan. We can only have productive citizens, once we join
hands in the eradication of this epidemic known as Tuberculosis. Receiving the donation on behalf of the Ministry of Health and Social Services, Director General In the Erongo Region, Mr Jeremia Nghipundwa, stated that; the Ministry expressed their gratitude in particular to the Namibia Fish Consumption Promotion Trust for their unwavering support towards the cause of “uniting to end Tuberculosis”, said NFCPT CEO, Mr Victor Pea, in his keynote speech. “The Ministry has indeed made great strides in the combating of Tuberculosis; we have ensured the consistent provision of high quality first- and second-line medicines for TB treatment, which are provided free of charge. Our efforts have resulted in us being able to bring down the absolute number of Tuberculosis cases. We humbly appeal to all members of society to join us to secure a Namibia free from Tuberculosis, the Namibia Fish Consumption Promotion Trust, must be applauded for making the fight against Tuberculosis a part of your Corporate Responsibility Initiatives, I look forward to multiple requests to join this fight”, added Mr Jeremia Nghipundwa. Mr Jeremia further noted that; there is a need to remain pro-active in the fight against Tuberculosis, through the employment of increased care messages which are complimented with enhanced detection and treatment methods.

The ideal location would be somewhere near the Garub area where the horses have lived for over 100 years and where they will still be accessible to the public. The NWHF and MET will be cooperating closely to manage this crisis and although it can't be guaranteed, there's a good chance that there will be a happy ending for both the horses and the hyaenas.

Standard Bank offers alternative payment methods for taxes The Ministry of Finance recently announced that it would no longer be accepting cheques as a payment method and as such, Standard Bank is offering its customers a safe and convenient ways to do so.

“Following the announcement by the Ministry of Finance, we have decided to offer our Private Banking clients with various alternative methods to settle their outstanding taxes,” Standard Bank's Head of Private Banking, Britt du Plessis said. As of 1 June, the Ministry will begin enforcing its rule of not accepting cheques for outstanding tax payments. In 2015 the Inland Revenue Department announced that it would only be accepting bank guaranteed for the payment of outstanding taxes, before pre-empting that cheques would be completely phased out by 2017. “Our Private Banking customers can now settle their outstanding taxes through Electronic Funds Transfers (EFT), direct deposits or alternatively use POS devices which are available at most Inland Revenue offices across the country. We urge all our clients to make use of these alternative payment methods as they are safe, convenient and fast,” Du Plessis encouraged. Direct deposits should be paid into: Account number: 165001, Branch code: 980172. Additionally, Du Plessis advised Private Banking customers to refer to their pre-completed form for their reference number when making their payments. Customers should also feel free to con-tact their Private Banking Relationship Managers if they have any questions regarding the alternative payment methods.
Face of Namibia Expo coming soon

Mary Ankonga, founding member of Face of Namibia, hosted a media launch on Friday morning to inform the public of the up-coming Face of Namibia Expo which will start on 29 March. The expo is focused on empowering women, as well as supporting the fight against gender based violence, teenage pregnancy and baby dumping. During the media launch, Ankonga expressed her concern regarding these social issues, and encouraged that these issues come to an end. The following corporate companies are going to parti-cipate in the Expo this year: Nampost, Namibia Preferential Procurement Corporation for all the BEE certificates, The Namibia Planned Parenthood Association, Trustco, IT School Management Software and DIY Seat Covers. There will be food stalls like Chip A Dip and Otjiherero tradition Otjikaiva will be made at the Expo. Kanker Bos will also be available at the Expo, as well as long lasting flowers. The Expo gave away 10 stalls to 10 vulnerable men & women from all over Namibia, and they urge the public to support the exhibitors at the Expo.

Das Atlanta-Theater befand sich in der ehemaligen Roonstraße (heute Hendrik-Witbooi-Straße), gegenüber vom Hansa-Hotel, wo man heute das Bekleidungsgeschäft Edgars betritt. Georg Erb, Betreiber der Swakopmund Tour Company, platzierte dieses Foto auf eine Facebook-Seite namens Swakopmund Down Memory Lane. Sybille Gregory: In der Erinnerung schien das Kinogebäude so viel größer. Georg Erb: Das Gebäude wurde wohl so 1995/96 demoliert. Karin Somerville: 2.5 Cents kostete die Kinokarte, und weitere 2,5 Cents das Eiscreme. Horst Meyer: Ich erinnere mich daran, dass Bud Spencer live dort auftauchte - bei dem Film mit den DünenBuggies, und wir trafen somit einen echten Schauspieler.... Dann ist unsere gesamte Klasse einmal hingegangen, um sich die deutsche Kinoversion ,,Das Boot” anzuschauen. Patricia Clark: ich kann mich gut an das Kino erinnern. Filme gab es jeden Mittwoch und Samstag abend zu sehen. Wir sind immer hingegangen. Unsere Sitzplätze waren permanent gebucht. 1958 hatten Rahns ein Res-
taurant gleich nebenan, wo wir dann während der Pause Kaffee tranken oder einen Drink einnahmen. Gudrun MacDonald: Eduard und Erika Rahn betrieben ein Restaurant im Atlantagebäude gleich neben dem Kino. Später wurde es von Willi Bönnen und seiner Frau Edith übernommen. Patricia Clark: Rahns hatten eine Pension Rahn ganz in der Nähe, wo sich heute Erich’s Restaurant befindet. Wolf-Dieter Mylo: War Familie Hertzig nicht auch mal am Kino beteiligt ? Gudrun MacDonald: Ja, sie pachteten es von Familie Heuschneider, soviel ich weiss: Alfons und Lotti Herzig, früher Eigentümer des Swakopmund Meat Supplies in der ehemaligen Garnisonstraße. Als sie die Schlachterei an Siegfried Bogendörfer verkauften, übernahmen sie das Atlanta -Theater. Gudrun MacDonald: In den 50ern bis 70ern gehörte das Kino der Familie Heuschneider. Paul Heuschneider (einer der zwei Brüder, die die Hansa-Brauerei besaßen) war der Kinomeister, der die Fil-
me gemeinsam mit Hans Kriess vorführte. Später übernahm das ein Herr Buchholz. Die Dame beim Kartenverkauf war jahrelang Lieschen Pätzold. Ich glaube, sie arbeitete im Platten- bzw. Musikladen von Hans Kriess senior. Sie war die Mutter von Hoffi Hoffmann, der noch in Swakopmund lebt, soweit ich informiert bin. Wann es gebaut wurde, weiss ich nicht genau, es muss so in den 40ern gewesen sein... Andreas Becker: Ich habe oft oben in der Box mit meinem Pelli Buller Heuschneider frei Film getscheckt. Haben dabei immer viele Zigaretten gequalmt, sodass der ganze Saal blau war. Marianna BrandtWhitenburgh: Ich erinnere mich noch an die Matineevorstellungen und meinen ersten Film dort: Blue Hawaii von Elvis Presley. TV-Lizenz...wenn ich das im Augenblick höre, geht mir der Hut hoch. Macht man das Radio an, wird man sogleich daran erinnert, die TV-Lizenz zu bezahlen - und das schon seit Monaten. Natürlich wollte ich das auch sofort erledigen. Also, auf zum NBCBüro, das es ja in Swakopmund gibt. Dort schien mir viel Betrieb zu sein: drei Personen unterhielten sich, eine am Telefon und eine weitere am Handy. Also wartete ich. Nach etwa zehn Minuten fragte mich eine Dame, von der ich dachte, dass sie auch eine Kundin sei, was ich wünschte. Die Bitte, meine TV-Lizenz zahlen zu dürfen, wurde mit der Begründung abgeschlagen, sie hätten jetzt keine Zeit dafür. Kann ja passieren! Nach drei Wochen tauchte ich wieder dort auf, und das Gleiche begann von vorne. Die gleichen Personen, die gleiche Begründung, warum ich meine Lizenz nicht zahlen kann. Bei meinem dritten Besuch im NBC-Büro fragte ich vorsichtig nach, ob es denn überhaupt möglich sei, seine Fernsehlizenz hier zu bezahlen. Das
wurde sofort bestätigt. Also streckte ich das Geld in meiner Hand entgegen, woraufhin mir mit Bedauern mitgeteilt wurde, dass die Dame, die das Geld einkassiert, leider nicht da sei. Ich solle doch zur Post gehen und dort zahlen. Leider war die Post dermaßen überfüllt, dass sie eigentlich wegen Platzmangels hätte geschlossen werden müssen. Also wieder nichts.... Als nächstes schickte ich dann einen Angestellten bei meiner Arbeitsstelle los, um sein Glück zu versuchen. Leider kam er wieder
mit meinem Geld zurück, weil man ihm gesagt hätte, man bräuchte meine IDNummer. Also schickte ich ihn am nächsten Tag mit ID-Nummer los. Ob Sie es nun glauben oder nicht, aber ich bekam erneut mein Geld zurück - diesmal lautete der Grund, dass ich zwei Fernseher bezahlen müsse, obwohl ich unseren alten Fernseher bereits im vergangenen Jahr abgemeldet hatte. Tja, anscheinend wollen die mein Geld nicht. Warum aber wird so viel Werbung gemacht, wenn eh keine Bezahlung akzeptiert wird? Natürlich kann man auch zur Post gehen und warten, bis man endlich an der Reihe ist, um dann ENDLICH zahlen zu können. Die Monokofrau Swakopmund (sk) In Namibia kann man leider keinen Schneemann bauen wie im hohen europäischen Norden. Daher beschlossen Gudrun Berens, ihre Tochter Emily und das Ehepaar Reinhild und Johann Fick am 12. März auf einer Fahrt durch das regenfeuchte Swakoprivier, eine Schlammfrau zu formen. Als die Gruppe am nächsten Tag von Goanikontes aus noch einmal bei ihrer Matschdame vorbeischaute, saß sie noch immer völlig intakt mitten im Rivier etwa 20 km westlich von Swakopmund. Die Autofahrer
Locker-feucht vom Hocker Den Wolken nachreisen! Liebe Küstenleser! Als vermiefter, vernebelter, nach Seetang riechender Kormoran reise ich tatsächlich jeden Monat der großen Regenzeit für ein verlängertes Wochenende den Wolken nach, seitdem ich mir vor ein paar Jahren vorgenommen habe, meinen Algengeruch unter Petrus’ Dusche reinzuwaschen. Die Reise ins Inland-SPA geschieht ohne GPS, ohne Wet-
tervorhersage aus dem Internet, ohne gutgemeinte Ratschläge... aber mit Augen, die den Himmel absuchen, einem Tastsinn, der die Windrichtung ,,befühlt” und - zugegeben - mit meinem Smartphone, womit ich hin und wieder Freunde in irgendeiner Ortschaft anrufe, wenn ich mir unsicher bin, ob der Regen es bis dorthin geschafft hat. Modder oder Schlamm ist eben - genau wie Schnee - keine allzu solide Substanz. Übrigens haben wir als Kinder immer von Monoko gesprochen, wenn wir Schlick oder Lehm meinten. Haben Sie eine Ahnung, wo das Wort herkommt? Im Internet war leider nichts über den Ursprung dieses Wortes zu finden.
Es war mal ein Jüngling in Pankow des Haupt war vollkommen blankow, von außen geschoren, von innen vergoren. Doch empfand er's nicht als Mankow. Vor viel tausend Jahren in Afrika waren aufrecht stehende Affen da. Die hüllten sich fein in Tierpelze ein. Es verschwand das Fell, und der Mensch war da.

Mazda to Produce All-New CX-5 at Hofu Plant Mazda Motor Corporation announced that, starting from November 2017, it will produce the all-new Mazda CX-5 crossover SUV at Hofu Plant in Yamaguchi prefecture in addition to the Hiroshima Plant where it is currently produced. The move will help the automaker respond quickly and flexibly to growing demand for SUVs globally. Mazda aims to create a production system that can respond flexibly to changes in demand for crossover vehicles as it works to meet its global sales goal of 1.65 million units, as laid out in its Structural Reform Stage 2 mediumterm business plan (covering the
period from fiscal year ending (FYE) March 2017 through FYE March 2019). In December 2016 Mazda began producing the Mazda CX-3 subcompact crossover SUV at Hofu plant in addition to Hiroshima Plant. The All-New Mazda CX-5 will be launched in Southern Africa in the second quarter of 2017. Starting production of the CX-5 at Hofu Plant as well is part of Mazda's plan to build a production framework that gives more flexibility between plants and between models.
Mazda will continue its efforts to enrich people's lives through a variety of touch points and become a brand with which customers feel a strong emotional connection.

The 400m Athletic Legend

Francis Uatema is another example to prove through hard work, determination and a positive attitude dreams become a reality. His journey started in 2010 when a teacher forced him to participate in the 400m athletics . It reached a high point in Jamaica in 2015.
Francis Uatema was born on 5 February 1996 at Otavi and moved to Walvis Bay, Narraville in 2002 to attend his first grade at Narraville Primary school. At school in athletics he won gold in 100m and 200m. During his first year at De Duine Secondary School, “strict” Mr Bester, a former teacher at the school, forced him to participate in the 400m athletics. Bester saw his potential and believed the young sprinter would excel in the 400m. After some time he decided to run and won the gold. From that day onwards Uatema's athletic career changed dramatically. So much so that since that very day up to his matric year he consecutively won gold in the 400m. But Uatema did not stop there: in December 2014 he traveled to Bulawayo in Zimbabwe for the Zone 6 Championship and came 4th in the finals. Also in 2014, he won the title as Namibia's fastest Junior in the 400m. He achieved a personal best (Pb) of 47.3secs. This opened the door for a Government scholarship to study in Jamaica. There he was exposed to World- and Olympic champions. To mention a few: Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce, Elaine Thompson and Nesta Carter. For several years Uatema had to walk everyday to attend athletics practice at Walvis Bay Private High School. “One thing that kept me going was to become something or someone in life”, says Uatema. He received intensive training from coach Belinda Oberholster whom he regards as his second mother. Oberholster’s unconditional support throughout and her realising his talent will always be part of his life. In 2015, he won both Grand Prix's in Windhoek and Swakopmund. According to him this was his toughest races, especially the one in Windhoek during the Senior Nationals in April where he had to compete against the “speedy” Ernst Narib who was the defending 400m National Champion. “We were two athletes striving for the 400m title. It was an intense challenge, but luckily I managed to pull through”, says Uatema. During his stay in Jamaica in 2015 he was trained by Jamaican legendary coach, Stephen Francis whom according to Uatema is the best. Francis is known for
making athletes from “zero to hero” Olympic stars. It is not all coaches who can do this. In 2016 he traveled to the United States of Americato represent Namibia in the relay event for 200m along with Adiel, Hitch and Gilbert. Competing in one team they managed to break the Namibian record for the 200m relay. During July Uatema had to return to Namibia, after encountering funding difficulties from the Government. Jamaica was also “not his thing”. He added though his opportunity in Jamaica was an experience of a lifetime, especially training amongst world star athletes & world class coaching staff. This year he wishes to focus more on his education while taking a break from sports. In 2018 he will be back in full swing, when he plans to practice at the High Performance Center in South Africa during holidays, to prepare himself. He wants to qualify for the Common Wealth Games in April 2018. A wisdom from Uatema is success is 2% practice and 98 % is mental preparedness. “Your mind determines the outcome. You can practice intensive, but if you do not have the right mindset [accompanied by faith] you will not achieve success'.” During his training he does different types of sprints and tries to incorporate the same speed in all of them. Uatema is inspired by people who faced difficulty, but managed to raise above the challenges. He gave as examples: Cristiano Ronaldo and Sylvester Stallone. Uatema's daily routine includes speed & endurance workouts, strength exercises, studying and 15-20% he dedicates to his social life. He is most thankful to his mother, since she always went out of her way to provide him with whatever he needed. “Everything is possible when you work towards your goals. Hard work and discipline is a very important key towards reaching your goals. I went for training daily because I believed good would come of it and that's exactly how it turned out. I came from “nothing”, started very small and if I can, then I believe everyone else who has equal determination can also achieve that”, concluded Uatema.

Navy hosts sport weekend Sharoldine Bock On 10 and 11 March the members of the Namibian Navy held a sports weekend, competing against one another in the sport codes of netball, volleyball and football. This sports event annually marks the opening of the Navy’s sport season.
Sport in the military serves a number of purposes. It promotes fitness and team playing. The Naval Unit Inter-league is the next big sport event.
1st Hunting Rifle Shooting in Namibian History 97 Participants travelled over the weekend to the farm Walmaine in the Gobabis District to shoot the 2nd leg of the NHRSA competitions for the year 2017. After the 6 ranges were set up on Friday evening, heavy showers and winds caused a one hour delay on Saturday morning as some targets were blown away. All participants, including a record number of entries in the penkoppe class (shooters under the age of 11) competed in 6 different ranges. The 1st range was Stein buck on 160m with a hay bale, with a distance of 150m, where the participants aimed at the Impala standing with a 3leg shooting sticks. On the 3rd range, the Oryx were waiting at 200m with short synthetic shooting sticks in a kneeling position. Range 4 with a long synthetic shooting stick was the short Gong range, between 150-250m. The long gong range with 180-325m was range 5; there the shooter had a wood cross on a trailer. The last range no 6 was zebras over a water hole at 175m. After a long day of shooting the winners of the day are as follows: Penkoppe under 11: 1st – Joubert Engelbrecht, 2nd Hanre Cocklin, 3rd – Christiaan Engels
Junior: 1st Jean de Schmid, 2nd Christiaan de Schmid Ladies class were as follows: 1st Place Cornel van der Westhuizen, 2nd Karola Woortman and 3rd Niela Engels. In the mens class, Francois Marais junior walked away with his second win of the season. 2nd place Johan Engelbrecht, 3rd place Johannes (Wittes) Marais. Seniors: 1St Johannes Gert van der Wath, 2nd Louw van Zyl, 3rd Andre Toit Veterans: 1st Place Francois Blaauw, 2nd Hermann Kessler, 3rd Casper Janse van Rensburg Overall Winner of the competition was Gold Medal Francois Marais Jnr, Silver Medal Johan Engelbrecht, and Bronze Medal Johannes Gert van der Wath.
